BUSINESS ETIQUETTE IN LATIN AMERICA

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE
It is better to live your own destiny imper-

fectly than to live an imitation of somebody else's life with perfection.- Bhagavad Gita

FRIENDLY COMPETITION
Members of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force met at the Maloney Regional Sporting Complex for a game of basketball on Tuesday 30th July in the spirit of friendly competition. The Coast Guard team won the game with 44 points and the Air Guard was not far behind with 42 points.

Latin American cultural points to note: Time: appointments may start later than the agreed time Meetings do not usually begin before 10am Be prepared to discuss business over a meal and drinks Dont be surprised if you are invited to your hosts home Business attire is usually formal and Latin people pay attention to the quality of clothing and personal grooming Your Spanish-speaking counterpart will discuss family, sports and informal topics before business Your Spanish-speaking counterparts must meet you personally before engaging in business deals; email/faxes are not very effective before this time As in Trinidad, minimal business is conducted in the holiday season; factor this into scheduling business trips When hosting a meeting with a Spanish-speaking business person, ensure that coffee is served
