Salaam Police airs full support to President’s strong republic
By MAR T. SUPNAD August 15, 2004, 8:00am
CAMP CRAME, Quezon City — The Salaam Police, a newly created all Muslim police organization, expressed its full support to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in her pursuit of a strong republic. Senior Supt. Sahiron Dulah Salim, chief of the Salaam Police for Luzon, said that the creation of the Salaam Police was timely and came at a time when the brother Muslims in the country, particularly in Mindanao area, are in need of an umbrella organization that will guide them to live a peaceful and normal life. "In fact, they (Muslim brothers) want to live peacefully, earn a decent way of living, and these are actually the sentiment of the peace-loving Muslim brothers," said Col. Salim, a Tausug native. The creation of the Salaam Police came right after a number of Muslims were arrested for illegal activities, such as for their alleged involvement in terroristic activities, bombings, etc. But some of them cried foul, claiming they were innocent in the crimes being attributed to them.
