Abstract. In order to study the operation control of a tidal power plant in the Amazon estuary, a laboratory was developed on a small river branch, consisting of a small dam and a micro axial hydraulic turbine. The paper describes the hydrological study on the tide behavior in this branch of river, using local tide and discharge observation, and numerical terrain modeling. The tide behavior was modeled by using the available tide data from the Brazilian Navy and a specific mathematical model. The determination of the generated energy and the design point is presented in details. This system can operates on both directions. The turbine design was based on the criterion of minimum pressure coefficient using the concept of classical cascade model with linear coupling between the stations through the radial equilibrium condition. The two-dimensional flow through the profiles is analyzed by the method of the panels with loss correction, and the design considers the effect of cavitation for defining the hydrofoil chord. The work present the configuration of the dam laboratory and rotor geometry and machine configuration, was well as the control principle. Keywords: minimum pressure coefficient, micro turbine, method of the panels, tidal power plant, effect of cavitation. 1. INTRODUCTION

Stage of the project development of nanomaterials for coating of hydraulic turbines aiming to increase life of same test consists of coating models. One of the tests provided performance is realized on the coating blades of a hydraulic turbine are installed in a small power generation. This small power uses the river that runs through the area Eletronorte Technology Center in Belém, PA. Given the low natural flow of the river and tidal influence, it was decided that this is the type tidal small power for harnessing tidal energy. This paper presents the basis for the definition of this project small power. 2. 3. TIDAL POWER DESIGN OF MICRO HYDRO TURBINE
