Source MICS 2007 -2012 (GOAL) In general, there was a steady increase in vaccination coverage by the pentavalent vaccine across the previous years. The proportion of children in the age group 6 to 59 months who received the third dose of Pentavalent vaccine increased from 54.8% in 2007 to 100% in 2011 and almost 100% in 2012. And this just achieved the target of covering 100 % of children by this vaccine. On

the other hand the proportion of children in the age group 9 to 59 months who received the measles vaccine showed a steady increase from around 92% in 2007 to around 96% in 2009 and to 97.4% in 2010 , this proportion however, dropped to again to 91.8% in 2011 with slight increase to 92.2% in 2012. The proportion was still below the target figure of 100% of children. Reproductive health:

After an initial increase in the proportion of pregnant women who have attended at least two comprehensive ante natal clinics form 92% in 2007 to 98.4 % in 2010, the percentage dropped to 96.2% in 2011 and again to 94.3% in 2012. However, in all instances the proportion exceeded the target of more than 90%. On the other hand, the per cent of pregnant women who delivered, that were assisted by a skilled provider increased initially from 63% in 2007 to 67.6% in 2010 this was followed by a significant drop to 49.9% in 2011, however, the proportion increased again to 74.3% in 2012. In all years the proportion exceeded the target of 40.7% which was the baseline figure. The drop in both instances coincided with drop in the measles vaccination coverage and could be attributed to deterioration in security conditions in the area

The proportion of mothers of children <5 who would refer their child with cough and difficult breathing to a health facility was well below the target indicator of 84%. This proportion was only 40% in 2007 but it showed an increase to 74% and 73.3% in 2010 and 2011 respectively.

The proportion of general population knowing 2 or more correct ways to prevent HIV was 34.9% in 2010 ,this dropped to 26.7% in 2011 below the target of 30.7%, however, the proportion increased significantly to 81.6% in 2012 reflecting the huge efforts carried out in the area of health education. The proportion of households reporting washing their hands at least three appropriate times (After defecation/after handling child faeces, before cooking, before eating) was only 26.7% in 2011 well below the target of 30.7%, but it increased to 47% in 2012 exceeding the target figure.
