BTS Releases January Airline Traffic Data;
Domestic Enplanements Down 13 Percent from December;
Airline, Airport Rankings on Page 2

Domestic enplanements on U.S. airlines fell 7.3 million in January, a 13 percent
drop from December, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics of the U.S. Department of
Transportation reported today in a release of preliminary data.

Domestic enplanements rose 10.3 percent in January 2003 from January 2002 on
domestic flights operated by U.S. airlines.

Data are compiled from monthly reports filed with the Bureau of Transportation
Statistics by commercial air carriers detailing operations, passenger traffic and freight
traffic. Reports from commuter carriers are included in data beginning October 2002 and
were not included in earlier reports. December traffic data are preliminary and include
data received by BTS as of April 18. Data are subject to revision.
Information on non-filing carriers will be available at www.bts.gov.

Revised December data is posted on the BTS website. BTS will release February
traffic data on May 12.
