The Sun Killer
This is my god concept/suggestion for HouYi: The Sun Killer for Smite. Also I try to still hold myself to my design philosophy of no hard CC nor jumps or dashes if it isn’t absolutely necessary. Just like my other god suggestion, which can be found at my scribd page (http://www.scribd.com/Xeran_), I will try once again to propose an unique and interesting character for Smite. I hope you enjoy the concept and I would appreciate it if you would give me some of your opinions and feedback of this concept. Disclaimer: Even though I try to create realistic kits and base my values on similar skills and gods the values are their mainly for demonstration purposes. Also everything between brackets is optional or is just for clarification.

In Chinese mythology, the sun is sometimes symbolized as a three-legged bird, called a Sun-bird. There were ten of these Sun-birds, all of whom are the offspring of Dijun, God of the Eastern Heaven. The ten Sun-birds resided in a mulberry tree in the eastern sea; each day one of the Sun-Birds would travel around the world on a carriage, driven by Xihe, the Mother of the Suns. Folklore also held that, at around 2170 BC, the Sun-birds grew tired of the routine and decided that all of them were to rise at the same time. The heat on earth became intense. As a result, crops shriveled in the fields. Lakes and ponds dried up. Human and non-human animals cowered in shelters or collapsed from exhaustion. Time passed and the suffering continued. Yao, the Emperor of China, decided to plead for divine intervention and to ask Dijun for aid.
Dijun was well aware of his sons' misdeeds, and sent for Houyi, the God of Archery, to teach his sons a lesson. Dijun wanted Houyi to simply frighten them so that they would not dare to cause mischief again. Houyi, too, wanted to settle this crisis peacefully, but a single glance at the scorched land was enough to convince him that desperate measures were needed. Angered by the suffering of the people caused by the Sun-birds' misconduct, Houyi lifted up his bow and shot them down one by one. Upon killing the ninth, Emperor Yao hurried to halt him as killing the last one would leave the world in total darkness. Houyi agreed and was hailed as a hero for mankind. Yet, later, Houyi's actions caused him to make enemies in Heaven and as a result he was punished with divine wrath. In an alternative version, Houyi attempted to settle the problem peacefully by simply frightening the Sun-birds, but approaching the Sun-birds and threatening them with the arrows, but the sun-birds laughed at him and said he wouldn't dare shoot them, knowing that their father would not kill them. Angered by this Houyi took aim and shot one of the suns from the sky. Houyi realised he had acted out of anger and knew he was in trouble with Dijun, but reasoned that since he had already begun the task he might as well finish it and shot the remaining suns out of the sky one-by-one, but before he could shoot the last sun the Emperor came to stop him reminding him the world needed the sun. From that day the remaining sun-bird now scared by Houyi, always did his duty and behaved well, always rising and setting on time.
He will mainly look like the most upper right picture. A good looking chinese archer, some belts, Chinese sleeves, long hair and a good decorated bow. His Chinese clothes will be mainly red, gold, white and black ass color pallet. It would also be nice if there would be a red or golden dragon painted on his clothes. This also could be a black or red crow(/raven). He will be young, because he need to be the same age as Chang’e. And this will be the first real normal looking good male in Smite (no over muscles, no fish tails, no over teenaged, no fat bellies, no old mans, no baby in diapers, etc.). He also has the swift, dance like moves from his wife and will be quite the dancer around the battlefield, but his moves will be more aggressive, but he has quite some light feet feets. His bow will be a long bow, mainly because he also is quite the long range specialist. His bow will be held vertically in a perfect archer stance (see again the upper right picture) He will see archery as a form of art and therefore his moves will be quite graciously. His moves will be like crazy anime impossible style moves (and then mainly the 2nd).

Really have trouble with making good ability names this time…
Passive: Three-legged crows
And here is where I really have trouble with creating a good passive, sorry for that… See this mainly as a placeholder for now. Shooting down enemies minions and jungle creeps (need to last hit) causes them to transform in small three legged crows, which are then consumed/absorbed by Hou Yi giving him 5% back of max health. I know this passive is very similar to Bumba’s, but can’t think of something good (right now), which suits the rest of his kit and role, without being too OP. And currently, because of his carry(/assassin) role he still lacks some basic sustain and this can help him with it (stronger early game, not too much late game) too help him a little bit extra with early jungling if played as assassin, because he lacks real jungle abilities for this.
Ability 1: Crow Shot
Houyi shoots an arrow with an rope attached to it, the other end of the rope is attached to him (his belt). If the arrow hits a god, structure or wall it’s attached. Houyi automatically moves with increased movement speed (~15%-25%) in the direction of the other end of the rope (while floating/travelling on the wind, his feets are little bit off the ground). Houyi can’t move during this, but also gains no attack speed penalty and can cancel this skill earlier (by using this again). During this skill houyi also can move through enemy minions. Additionally if god his hit by this he takes 50/60/70/80/90 (+80% of physical power) and is slowed by 20% for the duration. Lastly the attached enemy god won’t be affected by the knock back of the number 3 ability. Range: 75ft (needs to be (a lot) further than AA range, even more could work… I think 100-110ft is even better to let this skill really work as it’s supposed to be.) Mana: 70/80/90/100/110 CD: 18 seconds Some additional important notes: This skill can be canceled earlier by hard CC. Can also be canceled earlier by yourself Or automatically if within 15ft of your target You will always move from the current location directly (shortest way) to the target location ^Unless normal walls obstruct it (chasing in jungle), then you will take the turns as much as possible. But with a much wider jungle this is already much less of a problem. ^^ However this doesn’t apply to player structures, you’ll just keep stuck then (unless see synergy with ability 2) The skillshot is similar to Ra and Arachne (it has travel time and is rather small line hit box, also single target only). You probably won’t hit anyone on max range, unless good mastery and this is also weaker than Arachne’s pull. The rope follows the same rules as Aphro’s soul link or Ares chains’. As in they aren’t affected by literally anything and are just visuals. You can still aim, use abilities, shoot AA, etc. (only just not choose your own direction) Can’t be shot through walls or structures (initial hit needs to be a clean shot)
This is his escape, ganking and initiation tool as well as sort of his steroid. This allows him to have great mobility across the battlefield, but has its own drawbacks (as can’t steer during it and more vulnerable during it and the enemy decides where you’re going to…). This skill also makes it techniqually a little bit easier to hit the enemy god, which you’re attached to (even more so for them) For visuals it would be nice if he would hold his bow here horizontally and a spirit like (3 legged) crow would appear resting on top of the bow during the shot spreading its wings (and a crow scream…). At first this was an eagle, but the 3 legged crows are the fallen suns in his lore (so this is better). Also I think it’s better to reserve the eagle for Greek pantheon, even though crows is something of the Norse pantheon… (Maybe, very maybe he even needs an AArange increasing steroid during this ability)
Ability 2: Dancing Dragon
To accompany his wife in the dance There are 2 parts to this (depending on when you use it): Part 1: Houyi jumps straight up in the air, making a summersault and shoot a bomb/fireworks arrow upside down (himself) straight down to the ground doing 100/150/200/250/300 (+80% of your physical power) damage in a 15ft radius. Explosion will happen and the ground and Houyi with another somersault comes graciously back on the ground. You won’t move during this ability (stays at one position) Few frames of un target ability (like any jump) after a ~0.5s delay Depending on animation requirements ~1 second in the air.

Part 2: If used during the crow shot ability (#1 ability), then the summersault will change in a highly acrobatic in air cartwheel forwards (distance of +/- a jump (~25/30ft) and going faster, also depending on height, duration etc. for animations). During the cartwheel Houyi head will face the ground and Houyi fires multiple arrows during it to the ground doing 80/110/140/170/210 (+80% physical power) in the line traveled damage. Mana: 60/65/70/75/80 CD: 14 seconds Important notes: This ability follows the same rules as Neith style movement abilities (can’t go over static/normal walls) , but is more similar to Xba: CC immune, not targetable immune during it after of course a very short delay. Can be used to bypass player walls and structures (or even enemy gods) during crow shot Synergy very well with crow shot (as mentioned above and as extra farm combo). Shooting for instance wall behind minion wave and jumping over them with this.
So for visuals: During the crow shot Houyi surfs/travels on air/gust (as mentioned in his lore), while the rope pulls him forward (or else he gets blown away like in his lore). And then during this ability he gives himself a little push, turning his face and body perpendicular to the movement direction. Then his legs go into a wheel a half circle with his head, arrow and bow faced down. During it he shoots arrows to the ground and then lands, (turns his body again). Couldn’t find video, images of what I actually mean here…
Ability 3: Fireworks shot
Houyi fires an arrow with fireworks attached to it. This arrow passes through all minions, but when it hits a god(, main jungle creep to give better jungle potential), wall, structure or hits max range it detonates doing 80/130/190/250/300 (+80% of your physical power) physical damage and knocking back everyone (from the center explosion to outwards, also this effect is just minor, just enough to disrupt people). Max range: AA range (~55ft) Radius of blast: 20 ft Mana: 70/75/80/85/90 CD: 14 seconds Same power as similar Neith, Apollo, etc. farm skills, but this is slightly worse because it isn’t line damage. But at least has some minor CC in comparison to Apollo (not Neith or all the others)., most of the time the knockback will only make your enemies farther away (if hit from before with it). This is his main damage and farm skill.
Ability 4: The Ten Suns
Houyi goes up in a spiral with the wind or on top of a 3 legged golden plumaged bird up in the sky shooting 9 of the ten sun that appeared dead. The dead suns transform in black 3 legged crows when they fall down. This is the windup/delay time (~3 seconds). Houyi then takes place on top of the 10th sun and taking a long range aracher position in (like Artemis idle or see the reference pictures). For 3 seconds Houyi’s attack range become (~Thor’s ult) and his AA will be an area of 20ft radius. Mana: 80/90/100/110/120 CD: 90 seconds - This is pretty similar to Freya’s - But longer range - Longer windup time - Longer travel time of archers - More of a skillshot - Another variation upon: Thor’s, Neith’s, Freya’s, etc., but different in its own way. - Just doing AA damage on incredible long range - Vision on surroundings - Fits with his lore
An alternative to this, but may be too strong, but is a little bit more unique is to shoot down an arrow with rope at target location. Anyone hit by it is pulled to HouYi and all descend down where HouYi started the ult.
