withyourfurnaceheatexchangerorcarengine.
ItisnotunusualforyourMajesticFireplacesgasfire-
placetogiveoffsomeodorthefirsttimeitisburned.
Thisisduetothecuringofthepaintandanyunde-
tectedoilusedinthemanufacturingprocess.
Itisrecommendedthatyouburnyourfireplaceforat
leastten(10)continuoushoursthefirsttimeyouuseit.

General Information
Thisgasapplianceshouldbeinstalledbyaqualified
installerinaccordancewithlocalbuildingcodesandwith
currentCSA-B149.1InstallationcodesforGasBurning
AppliancesandEquipment.
FORU.S.AInstallationsfollowlocalcodesand/orthecur-
rentNational Fuel Gas Code. ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54.
IntheCommonwealthofMassachusetts,allgasfittings
andinstallationofthisheatershallonlybedonebya
licensedgasfitterorlicensedplumber.

NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
1. Thisappliancegivesoffhightemperaturesandshouldbe
locatedoutofhightrafficareasandawayfromfurniture.
2. Childrenandadultsshouldbealertedtothehazardsofthe
highsurfacetemperaturesofthisapplianceandshouldstay
awaytoavoidburnsorignitionofclothing.
3. Childrenshouldbecarefullysupervisedwhentheyareinthe
sameroomasyourappliance.
4. Undernocircumstancesshouldthisappliancebemodified.
Partshavingtoberemovedforservicingshouldbereplaced

6. Controlcompartments,burnersandairpassagesinthisap-
plianceshouldbekeptcleanandfreeofdustandlint.Make
surethatthegasvalveandpilotlightareturnedoffbefore
youattempttocleanthisunit.
7. Keeptheareaaroundyourapplianceclearofcombustible
materials,gasolineandotherflammablevaporandliquids.
Thisapplianceshouldnotbeusedasadryingrackforcloth-
ing,norshouldChristmasstockingsordecorationsbehung
intheareaofit.
8. Undernocircumstancesshouldanysolidfuels(wood,coal,
paperorcardboardetc.)beusedinthisappliance.
9. Theflowofcombustionandventilationairmustnotbeob-
structedinanyway.
10.Whethertheapplianceisinstalleddirectlyoncarpeting,vinyl
tileoranycombustiblematerialotherthanwood,thisappli-
ancemustbeinstalledonametalorwoodpanelextending
thefullwidthanddepthoftheappliance.
11.Thisappliancerequiresadequateventilationandcombus-
tionairtooperateproperly.
12.Donotusethisapplianceifanyparthasbeenunderwater.
Immediatelycallaqualifiedservicetechniciantoinspectthe
applianceandtoreplaceanypartofthecontrolsystemor
gascontrolthathasbeenunderwater.
13.Inspecttheburnerbeforeeachuseoftheappliance.The
burnermustbereplacedpriortooperationifthereisevi-
dencetheburnerisdamaged.Useonlyburnerspecifiedby
manufacturer.
LP-cylinderenclosures,ifprovidedbytheconsumermustcon-
formtothedesignparametersasdetailedbelow.
Enclosures for LP-Gas Supply Systems
EnclosuresforLP-gassupplycylindersshallbeventilatedby
openingsatthelevelofthecylindervalveandatfloorlevel.The
effectivenessoftheopening(s)forpurposesofventilationshall
bedeterminedwiththeLP-gassupplycylinder(s)inplace.This
shallbeaccomplishedbyoneofthefollowing:
a. Onesideoftheenclosureshallbecompletelyopen;or
b. Foranenclosurehavingfoursides,atopandabottom:
1. Atleasttwoventilationopeningsatcylindervalvelevel
shallbeprovidedinthesidewall,equallysized,spacedat
180degrees(3.14rad),andunobstructed.Eachopening
shallhaveatotalfreeareaofnotlessthan1/2square
inchperpound(3.2sq.cm/kg)ofstoredfuelcapacityand
notlessthanatotalfreeareaof10squareinches(64.5
sq.cm).
2. Ventilationopening(s)shallbeprovidedatfloorleveland
shallhaveatotalfreeareaofnotlessthan1/2square
inchperpound(3.2sq.cm/kg)ofstoredfuelcapacityand
notlessthanatotalfreeareaof10squareinches(64.5
sq.cm).Ifventilationopeningsatfloorlevelareinaside
all,thereshallbeatleasttwoopenings.Thebottomof
theopeningsshallbeatfloorlevelandtheupperedgeno
morethan5inches(127mm)abovethefloor.Theopen-
ingsshallbeequallysized,spacedat180degrees(3.14
rad)andunobstructed.
3. Everyopeningshallhaveminimumdimensionssoasto
permittheentranceofa1/8inch(3.2mm)diameterrod.
Cylindervalvesshallbereadilyaccessibleforhandoperation.
Adoorontheenclosuretogainaccesstothecylindervalves
isacceptable,provideditisnon-lockingandcanbeopened
withouttheuseoftools.
Thereshallbeaminimumclearanceof2inches(51mm)
betweenthelowersurfaceoftheflooroftheLP-gassupply
cylinderenclosureandtheground.
Thedesignoftheapplianceshallbesuchthat(1)theLP-gas
supplycylinder(s)canbeconnected,disconnectedandthe
connectionsinspectedandtestedoutsidethecylinderenclo-
sure;and(2)thoseconnectionswhichcouldbedisturbedwhen
installingthecylinder(s)intheenclosurecanbeleaktested
insidetheenclosure.
Description
TheODGSRSeriesareradiantfireplaces.Donotburnwood
orothermaterialsintheseappliances.Eachmodelisavailable
withstandingpilotforusewithNaturalorPropanegasunits.
Reporttoyourdealeranypartsdamagedinshipment.
Adequatecombustionandventilationairmustbeprovided.The
flowofcombustionandventilationairMUSTNOTbeobstruct-
ed.
Provideadequateclearancesaroundtheairopeningintothe
combustionchamber;andadequateaccessibilityclearancefor
servicingandproperoperation.NEVERobstructthefrontopen-
ingoftheappliance.
This fireplace is not designed to be water tight.
Therefore, when installing this unit against an exte-
rior wall, the wall must be finished before setting unit
in place.

and properly positioned.

surfaces:
Aflatcombustible(burnable)surface.
Araisedwoodenplatform.
Aconcreteblockorothersolidobjectplaced
beneatheachofthefourcornersoftheappliance.
Tomounttheappliance:
1.Chooseunitlocation.
2.Four(4)nailingflangesaresuppliedwiththefire-
place(foundonthefireplacehearth).Tolevelthe
boxandsecureitfirmlyinplace,removethenailing
flangesfromthehearthandinstallatthesidesofthe
fireplaceasshowninFigure4.
Finishing
CAUTION: All joints between the finished
wall and the appliance surround (top and
sides) may be sealed only with non-com-
bustible material. Only noncombustible
material can be applied as facing to the ap-
pliance surround (the black painted face).

High Elevations
Input ratings are shown in BTU per hour and are
certified without deration from elevations up to
4,500 feet (1,370 m) above sea level.
Nuisance outages may occur at altitudes above
4,500 feet (1,370 m) if dirt, dust, lint and/or cob-
webs are allowed to accumulate on burner and/or
ODS pilot. Monthly inspection and cleaning is rec-
ommended for altitudes above 4,500 feet (1,370 m)
For elevations above 4,500 feet (1,370 m), instal-
lations must be in accordance with the current
ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54 and/or local codes having
jurisdiction.
Valve Access
Valveaccesscanbeaccomplishedinoneoftwoways:
1. Removethefrontpaneljustbelowthefrontofthe
hearthpan.Thisisaccomplishedbyliftingonthe
panel.Toreplacethevalveaccesspanellineupthe
twopinswiththeholesinthesurroundbottomand
pushthepaneloverthefrontofthehearthpan.(Fig.
5)

disconnectedfromthegassupplypipingsystemduring

Ifgaspipingfromthesourcetotheappliancelocation
hasnotbeenaccomplished,installtherequiredpipe.
Consultlocalplumbingcodetoassureproperpipesize.
Thegaspipelinecanbebroughtinthroughtheright
sideoftheappliance.Aknockoutisprovidedtoallow
forthegaspipeinstallationandtestingofanygascon-
nection.
NOTE: Thegaslineconnectioncanbemadewith3/8"
coppertubingapprovedforpropaneornaturalgas,1/2"
rigidpipeoranapprovedflexconnector,thenreduced
to3/8"totheappliance.Becausesomemunicipalities
havesomeadditionallocalcodes,itisalwaysbestto

Cleaning the Standing Pilot

Mostofthesecomponentsmayrequireonlyanocca-
sionalcheckupandcleaningandsomemayrequiread-
justment.Ifrepairisnecessary,itshouldbeperformed
byaqualifiedtechnician.
Inordertoproperlycleantheburnerandpilotassembly,
turnoffthegastotheunit,removelogsexposingthe
burnerandpilotassembly.Cleanallforeignmaterials
fromthetopoftheburner.Checktomakesurethat
burnerpartsareclean.Visuallyinspectpilot.Brushor
blowawayanydustorlintaccumulationIfpilotorificeis
plugged,disassemblymayberequiredtoremoveany
foreignmaterialfromtheorificeortubing.
Toobtainproperoperation,itisimperativethatthepilot
andburner'sflamecharacteristicsaresteady,notlifting
orfloating.
Typically,thetop3/8"or1/2"ofthethermopileshould
beengulfedinthepilotflame.(Fig.16)
Toadjustpilotburner,turnpilotscrewmarked"pilot"for
properflamesize.
Theairshutterissetatfactorynoadjustmentshouldbe
necessary.
