The westernizing of the cinema has become a bane to Indian culture, and is helping in producing on uncultured, uninhibited and disobedient generation. The cinema and all those working in this line must take it as their responsibility to help generate human values rather than unethical standards. The Indian cinema must owe allegiance to India and its future generations. Movies teaching and depicting what India was, what it has become and what it should be in the future would be clean themes for movie stories.
Many may argue that only those who take cinema seriously will be influenced by it, but almost everyone is influenced. Each one of us is bound to be influenced by where ever your weakness or strength lies. It is just human tendency. If someone is not brought up well, not taught how to value women, he is bound to be more influenced by watching item numbers where women is considered as a ‘thing to play with’, which in turn will lead to his already bad attitude getting a boost. That same item number may probably not affect a man who is taught well how to respect women, and most probably he won’t like that item number.
There is another definition of cinema – it is a medium that does reflect the true mood of the society and also the changing reality. Since cinema are the replication of the society and society also watches and starts accepting the changes introduced by cinema, I think both influence each other well. Generally behind any creative thing there is an inspiration, hence for the cinemas it more the society that we live in. Through cinemas, only we come to know about the different issues that are prevailing in India but somehow we ignore them. Its cinema only, which brings that ugly face out in the market. That’s true that over the period the movies are showing more of bloodshed and vulgarity, but then again it’s all about how we look at it. One side we can say it’s vulgar and on the other side we say it bold and beautiful. People of today want more of substance and reality than normal melodrama and hence peeping into reality reveals the real and crude look of our own society and people. As film history has progressed, so too has the sophistication of filmmaking technology, from cameras, to sound recording, to editing. Technological advancements in these areas expand the creative potential of the filmmaker. Students prefer films to reading books. Thus, cinema exercises a very powerful effect on society.Cinema is a universal teacher. It educates the people in different branches of learning. Our film producers have made very purposeful films to collect public opinion against some of the social evils as dowry system, the labour exploitation. It can teach us natural history, geography, botany, chemistry etc.
