In order to gauge the campaign’s success and media coverage we propose subscribing to a media monitoring service. Most services track documentation, analysis, or copies of client-relevant clips for archiving. However, we propose subscribing to a comprehensive media service, ideally Cision Media Source. Secondly, we suggest uploading our letter to legislative constituents to an online petition Web site. The goal of any media campaign is achieving the set goal through targeted message dissemination. That said, this is best implemented through a three-step method: research, monitoring, and evaluation. Research is necessary to identify target markets by audience demographic, as well as identifying key media staff for building effective media lists. Monitoring provides quantitative media coverage tracking, by compiling client and issue relevant clips. Monitoring services highlight clips, as they are published, for review and analysis of media and public perception. Evaluation involves assessing coverage statistics and reception to plan future media strategies, and the strengths and weaknesses of the current campaign. Cision Media Source offers services specifically geared to facilitate these issues. We will use Media Source – Research to research, target, and compile media lists and target audiences/publications. We will use Media Source – Monitoring to monitor multimedia coverage including print, online, and broadcast clips. An additional possibility, for consideration, would be using Media Source – Evaluation for assessing campaign effectiveness. MSE provides charts including media group, circulation, region favorability and share of voice. Public support and engagement is also important to campaign effectiveness. In order to involve the public we propose publishing the letter to the constituents with an online petition site like iPetition. This would involve uploading the letter to a site, and directing all interested parties to sign the petition or email it to their representative. This will centralize the public reception and involvement. iPetition enables the facilitation of letter dissemination and complete tracking of individuals who have sent the document, as well as the anticipated recipient. The tracking methods provide a panoramic gauge of media and public response to our campaign. Cision offers a comprehensive service that provides all of the resources needed to plan, monitor, and evaluate our campaign. An added advantage of Cision, as opposed to other services like VMSInfo and Burrells Luce, is the integrated approach offered. A subscription with Cision offers service flexibility that can shift with our changing goals and budgets. This way, we can use Media Source – Research during the preparatory stages, and switch to Media Source – Monitoring during the post-event stages, or we can use all of them together. Moreover, Cision offers these services as a central provider.
