London’s Source for Sports and Reebok Present

2013 ROOKIE TOURNAMENT
NHL PROSPECTS TO PLAY SEPTEMBER 5-8, 2013 AT BUDWEISER GARDENS – ROSTERS RELEASED

From September 5-8, Budweiser Gardens will host four hockey teams of prospective NHL players from the Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins, Ottawa Senators and Chicago Blackhawks for the 2013 Rookie Tournament presented by Source for Sports and Reebok. Each team will play three separate games against each team as the city of London, Ontario anticipates world class hockey, hosting players from Canadian, American, and International leagues. On Thursday, August 22, each NHL team collaboratively released their official rosters for the event. For the Toronto Maple Leafs, Matt and Ryan Rupert, twins from Grand Bend, Ontario, will play on the same team once again on familiar ice at Budweiser Gardens. The brothers were integral parts of the back to back OHL Championships for the London Knights. Toronto Marlies player and Knights alumni Greg McKegg (St. Thomas,ON) also returns to Budweiser Gardens in a Leafs jersey. In 61 games with the Marlies, McKegg scored 8 goals and earned 15 assists, settling into a prominent center role. The Pittsburgh Penguins named 26 players to their roster, including three defensemen who have also dressed for the London Knights: Scott Harrington, Olli Maatta, and Reid McNeill. Former Knights captain Harrington (Kingston, ON) was a key contributor in leading the Knights

to back-to-back Memorial Cup appearances. Maatta – a Finland native – was drafted in the first round (22nd overall) in the 2012 draft and is eligible to play for the Knights at Budweiser Gardens again this season, while teammate McNeill (selected 170th overall in 2010) returns to his hometown in London, Ontario for this tournament. Making the trip for the Ottawa Senators is Mark Stone, Derek Grant, and Jean-Gabriel Pageau – three players who have already played in the NHL. Former OHL Rookie of the year, Matt Puempel also joins the line up for the tournament, playing previously for the Kitchener Rangers before being called up to the Binghamton Senators. The Chicago Blackhawks round out the four teams and are set with three first round draft picks (Dylan Olsen, 2009; Mark McNeill, 2011; Phillip Danault, 2011). Drafted in the 7th round of the 2011 NHL entry draft, London Knights alumni Alex Broadhurst will return to Budweiser Gardens for the first time as part of the Blackhawks organization. As a Knight, Broadhurst tallied 28 points in the playoffs as a key forward for the 2013 OHL Championship team.
