In this regard, women play a key role in achieving food security. They produce between 60% and 80% of food in most developing countries and almost half of the world’s foodstuffs. They are the major household food providers and ensure dietary diversity. Consequently, women’s crucial contribution to food production and provision can be enhanced by boosting their access to productive resources and services such as land, training, technologies, information and financial services. It is therefore in recognition of their role that the IDB is dedicating the 9th Edition of the Prize to “Women’s Contribution to Food Security”.
