ALPFA MARKS 41st ANNUAL CONVENTION IN DC WITH RECORD NUMBER OF WORKSHOPS, PANELS AND POWERFUL SPEAKERS Conference Featured Career Fair/University Expo, Networking Receptions, Professional Development Workshops, Scholarships, and a Black Tie Gala Event August 20, 2013 ALPFA business professionals, students, business leaders and diversity advocates converged upon the ALPFA Annual Convention near the nations capital for four days of leadership development, networking, and a chance to connect with the growing affluent Latino demographic. This convention surpassed expectations on so many levels including the expansion of the Veterans Initiative, our first LGBT workshop, a new consumer insights panel and increased industry participation at the Career Fair, said Manny Espinoza, ALPFA CEO. We continually strive to elevate our convention and this year was no exception with the addition of our first convention mobile app, engaging workshops with relevant topics, social media engagement, plus the announcement of our membership, which is now boasting more than 22,000. ALPFAs Annual Convention has become one of the most powerful events in the Latino business community. The four-day conference attracts Hispanic corporate executives, procurement and supplier-diversity professionals from the private and public sectors, as well as college students from across the country. ALPFA, in partnership with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), awarded more than $100,000 in student scholarships during the convention. Top scholars are also sponsored to attend the convention, with registration, airfare and lodging provided by ALPFA. The convention was a resounding success for all involved. said Yvonne Garcia, ALPFA National President. Attendees packed the sessions offered and not only received critical professional development but more important, they had the opportunity to expand their network on a national scale and meet the individuals that could impact their career today and in the future. The convention instilled in them the power of community, the need to giving back, and a heightened awareness of the strength of their cultural roots and showed them a path to a bright and prosperous future! Attendees learned from the best industry leaders as they engaged in over 70 professional and student development workshops, networking opportunities, and eight panel discussions covering Veterans, Women and Influence, Creating Change, Leadership, and Consumer Insights. There was also a talent competition and national raffle awarding a Mercedes-Benz. At the Career Fair, nearly 100 companies, including lead sponsor PwC, and industries from retail, banking, technologies, pharmaceuticals, financial services, and professional services interacted with talented, motivated and dynamic individuals. Consumer Insights Panel- featuring Beno Dorer, EVP and COO Cleaning, International, and Corporate Strategy, Clorox as keynote and representatives from Clorox, PNC, Starbucks, ConAgra and The Hershey Company on the panel. ALPFA Scholarship Luncheon Awarded 41 scholarships, and recognized 6 full tuition scholarships by the University of Phoenix as well as two $10,000 scholarships awarded E&Y and Sovereign Santander. Nancy Altobello, Americas Vice Chair, Talent of Ernst and Young served as the keynote. Women of ALPFA Luncheon The program honored Ana Escobedo Cabral, former Treasurer of the United States. Ana also served as keynote for the luncheon. ALPFA Awards Gala Sponsored by Deloitte, this evening honored outstanding individuals with the 2013 National Awards, and featured Janet Foutty, Federal Consulting Leader, Deloitte and Bob Moritz, Chairman and Senior Partner, PwC.
