Data sheet

FEATURES

Interface device between process and UNS 2880 controller board

4 potential-isolated digital inputs for 24VDC nominal voltage
5 output relays with changeover contacts for 250 VAC/DC
4 analogue outputs
3 analogue inputs (voltage or current inputs), 10V or 20mA
1 LED for output driver error display
Test points for checking the analogue actual values

SHORT DESCRIPTION
The SIO Interface UNS 0886 establishes the connection between the analogue and binary process
signals of the excitation system and the controller board UNS2880.
The 3 analogue inputs and the 4 analogue outputs are transmitted unchanged by the SIO. The
analogue outputs are only driven if the channel is active.
The 4 digital inputs are potential-isolated by means of optocouplers.
The 5 digital outputs are potential-isolated by means of relays. The signal voltage is fed separately
for each output via the terminal.
An LED indicates errors in the output driver stage of the controller board.

UNS 0886a-P, V.1

Digital inputs

Number: 4 digital inputs for 24VDC; galvanically isolated.

Each input is galvanically isolated via optocouplers. The LEDs IN 1...4 indicate active inputs.
The interrogation voltage for the 4 external customer contacts is provided by an external 24VDC
source. This source can be connected at the terminals X5:3/4 and then supplies an internal
current-limited interrogation voltage via the terminals X5:1/2.
In the basic version of the device, all digital inputs have the same reference potential, i.e. all the
solder straps Y1 Y4 are connected with one another. This reference potential must be connected
with the reference potential of the interrogation voltage.
If independent inputs with send and return lines are required (e.g. for SPS drivers), then the
corresponding inputs can be isolated from the neighbouring channels by interrupting (cutting out)
the reference potential connection.
The +24VDC supply voltage for the secondary-side interrogation of the optocouplers is supplied by
the COB.

2.3

Digital outputs

Number: 5 relays with changeover contacts, 6 LEDs

The 5 relays switch over an externally-applied voltage between two connections.
The LEDs OUT 1...5 indicate active relays. The FAIL LED indicates an overload of the output
driver stage of the controller board. All relays drop in this condition.

2.4

Analogue inputs

A total of 3 analogue inputs are available. These are not galvanically isolated and are only used for
the connection to the UNS 2880 controller board.
AITAC,AI1, AI2 are bipolar differential inputs and can be assigned to internal SP inputs (SP =
Standard Program Blocks) by means of software parameters in the COB.
The associated burden resistors R1001-R1006 must be adapted for current input signals.

2.5

Analogue outputs

A total of 4 analogue outputs are available. These are not galvanically isolated, the reference
potential is ZA from the controller board (COB).
AO21 AO24 can be freely configured by means of parameters in the COB.
The analogue outputs are only driven if the CH_ON signal is active. In the non-active state the
outputs are open. Therefore the respective inputs of the application must be connected to GND by
high impedance.

2.6

Test points

All analogue signals are passed to test points. These signals are primarily provided for
commissioning and maintenance work. The HETT 400060 P3 connector should be used for
individual connections.

2.7

Explanation of the signal names

See section 6.6 : Connector pin assignments, signal designations.

3. CONFIGURATION
The connections between the UNS0886 and the UNS 2880 processor board are made using
prefabricated flat cables.

3.1

Direct inputs AITAC, AI1 and AI2

These can be used both as voltage inputs and as current inputs. If used as voltage inputs, the
resistors R1001 to R1006 must be removed.

Earthing

The device is earthed via the fixing bolts of the interface mounting. It must be ensured that the
device is mounted on a wellearthed base plate / rack.

4. COMMISSIONING AND FUNCTION CHECK

4.1

Connections

Check all connections to the devices.

Check the flat cable specified in section 6.5.

4.2

Reference potential of the digital inputs

A single return conductor can be used for digital inputs with the same reference potential. In the
basic version, the straps Y1- Y4 are connected with one another. If separate input channels are
required, these are to be isolated from the others. The reference potential is applied via one of the
terminals X2:2/4/6/8.
Example: Input X2:5/6 isolated.

Activated digital inputs are indicated by the LEDs IN1...4.

Activated digital outputs (relays) are indicated by the LEDs OUT1...5 and FAIL. High-impedance
instruments with galvanically-isolated power supply should be used to measure all analogue
signals.
