OUR MISSION STATEMENT To conserve and protect native wildlife and its natural habitat through education and rehabilitation

(MARS)
Helping Wildlife Recover

What will be your Legacy for the future?

Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society (MARS)
MARS is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to helping ill, injured, orphaned and oiled wildlife recover and eventually be released back to the wild. We serve a large geographical area that includes the northern half of Vancouver Island as well as the northern Gulf Islands and Sunshine Coast. We also provide education about wildlife and conservation of habitat by making presentations at public events, in classrooms and for small groups, and by publishing a regular newspaper column.

Examples of Planned Giving Strategies:

Include a charitable gift in your will. A bequest to a charity can bring tax savings for your estate. Consider making MARS the beneficiary of your life insurance policy or donate the life insurance policy during your lifetime and receive a charitable tax receipt for the cash surrender value of the policy. You might also name MARS as the beneficiary of your RRSP or RRIF. There is no need to change your will when renaming a beneficiary to an insurance policy or RRSP/RRIF. Set up a living trust, known as a charitable remainder trust of cash assets and receive a charitable receipt for your donation. During your lifetime any interest, income or dividends will be paid to you as taxable income but, upon your death, the assets in the trust go to the charity you have chosen. It is also possible to make a gift of residential property to a charity like MARS and retain the right to use the property during your lifetime or for a specified period. Donate stock, mutual funds or securities. You do not have to pay capital gains tax on these investments when they are donated to a charity.

Leave a Legacy for Wildlife How can you help?

You can support wildlife by making a one-time or monthly donation, or by including MARS in your estate planning to make a gift that will last beyond your lifetime. If you are thinking about, or have made the decision to support MARS, you will want to learn more about the potential tax benefits of your contribution. Ask a professional advisor about options that can lower your income taxes now and in the future.
