PROPOSAL FOR WELDING SAFETY EQUIPMENT FOR WELDER

OBJECTIVE The purpose of this paper is to seek approval from the Management of Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (AFSB) to: 1.1 Provide approved welding safety equipment for workers who engaged with welding activity in order to prevent them from eyes and skin burns.

2.0

BACKGROUND 2.1 One of the requirements by Perbadanan Pengurusan Sisa Pepejal dan Pembersihan Awam (PPSPPA) under privatisation is that all operation staff must wear proper PPE while working on site. 2.2 In an effort to prevent workers from the welding hazards, the use of welding safety equipment is essential to protect the areas of the body most vulnerable to hazards, which result directly from welding activities. 2.3 Welding safety equipments focus on protecting the head, the eyes, the body, the legs and feet of a workers. 2.4 Welding safety equipments would include leather welding sleeves, heavy duty welding apron, leather gloves, welding face shield.

JUSTIFICATION 3.1 Welding Safety Equipments are Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that should be provided by an employer to protect his employee from occupational hazard. 3.2 According to the Occupational Safety & Health Act 1994: Section 26 states that:

No employer shall levy or permit to be levied on any employee of his any charge in respect of anything done or provided in pursuance of this Act or any regulation made there under. This means that personal protective equipment provided by an employer to his employees must be made at no cost to the employees.

SPECIFICATION OF WELDING SAFETY EQUIPMENT Welding safety equipment comes in various designs and fitted for different purposes. Below is the type of safety welder equipment that should be worn by welder. 4.1 Type of welding safety equipment Type of Welder Safety Equipment Function

Requirement that should be follow when purchasing Welder Safety Equipment: a) The equipment must be approved by Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH). b) Suitable to the type of work; c) d) Fit the employees; Not adversely affect the health or medical condition of the employees;

e) Must be in sufficient supply and readily available to employees who require it
