Special Points of Interest:
 The ZSDW Gazette is now being written fortnightly by Marsden.  2009 kicks off to a great start with the promotion of our new administrator ‘SkipNChurch’  ZSDW reaches 3500 members!

ZSDW GAZETTE IS NOW THE WIKI’S OFFICIAL NEWS LETTER
The ZSDW is amidst the largest and most active Wetpaint communities. Each day we receive on average between 4 and 5 new members. We have written large articles on survival and have actively engaged with our community by writing tests and hosting competitions. Recently we reached our mark of 3500 members. So in honor of this great occasion I, Marsden, have started work on a newspaper fortnightly newsletter for the ZSDW and its members. The paper will be free to download as either Pubilisher 2007 or Pubilisher 2000 files. My apologies in advance if it doesn’t work on your system. Inform Marsden of your problem and I will attempt to find a file format that suits you. Each fortnight I shall summerise all issues that have taken place. All promotions/demotions, new pages, interesting debates and articles of interest will be found inside as well as a member of the month. I hope you enjoy the articles written in the first edition of “The ZSDW Gazette.” - Marsden

THE ZOMBIE SURVIVAL & DFENSE WIKI HISTORY (PART I )
The Zombie Survival and Defense Wiki was started on December 14th 2006 at 12pm by Angela B. She was able to have the site fully functioning within three months. At that time there were about five hundred members and six moderators. On August 17th Marsden joined and within a month was promoted to moderator and later admin three weeks later. On February 2nd Alicestar joined the wiki bringing with him much military knowledge; something that we were lacking as a community. With his knowledge our Weapons and Gear section doubled in size. Three months later an election was held after Angela's disappearance from the wiki community. Results were favorable for many candidates, including Vanrullz, our new Minister of Foreign Affairs, 3DayAsylum with Logistics and most of all Alicestar, who was promoted to be the wiki’s second Administrator. Continued next issue.

NEW ZSDW ADMINISTRATOR CONTINUED...
“SkipNChurch has been a very active member since February 2008, he should have got recognition for his efforts earlier.”
About a week ago the wiki was proud to promote its third Administrator into power. SkipNChurch has been a very active member in debates and page revamps since February 2008. We are proud to welcome him to the team. SkipNChurch has proved his dedication to the community as he proceeded to modernize the homepage from a template we had been using for months. He is a major fan of guns as well which has helped expand our “Weapons and Gear” section even further. We are looking forward to 2009 being the best year the wiki has ever had. Article by Marsden

ZSDW REACHES 3’500 USERS AND COUNTING!
The ZSDW has been averaging between 4 and 5 new users each day, occasionally increasing to about 8 during holidays. On January 12th 2009 the ZSDW was pleased to announce their 3’500th registered user. This is a fantastic achievement. Our success comes down to a number of factors including; the community and easy access of multiple website of the Wetpaint community., the word of mouth as members get their brothers, sisters and friends to join and finally the excellent work from Vanrullz on our Bebo, MySpace and other social networking sites. The staff of the ZSDW would like to offer a full thank you to all who have contributed to our growing community. It is hard to believe that only a year ago our site membership stood at barely 1’000. Hopefully the fame of our site will continue to spread and support our vast growth well into the foreseeable future. Article by Marsden

“The 3500th member to join is a user called Shizat”

ARTICLE OF THE WEEK! - THINKING NUCLEAR
The first article of the week is one written about six months ago by ‘Gladimnotdaonly1.’ The article is well researched and explores the dangers faced after Z-Day as hundreds of Nuclear Power Stations will reach critical mass. It is a threat we think about so little when we are considering zombies. Even if you don’t have a clue about nuclear energy have a read over it. It isn’t to hard to grasp. If you do know a lot about nuclear energy, then please help us by adding how you think we would survive such an incident. The article can be found by clicking the hyperlink on the picture to the left which will take you directly to the page. Feel free to discuss, debate and add content. It is the community spirit that drives our wiki forward. Article by Marsden Original content by Gladimnotdaonly1

WEAPON OF THE WEEK—THE CHAINSAW
The Chainsaw is hailed in many modern day Z-movies as the solution to all your problems. Is a horde coming? No Problem! Just whip out your trusty chainsaw, rev it up and charge through the infected mass. Unfortunately it doesn’t work like that. The chainsaw is heavy, almost too heavy to effectively swing or wield as a weapon. It also runs on petrol, which will become a very precious commodity after Z-Day. It also frequently jams when cutting down vines on trees. How do you think it is going to get through several layers of muscle, bone tissue and organs without jamming? Following up from that is the problem of blood, guts etc. being thrown everywhere during the engagement with the undead. The blood which will spray is probably going to infect you if you get it in your eyes, mouth or any cuts you may have at the time. Overall the chainsaw is now looking to be a great weapon. Article by Marsden

“It's noisy, needs regular cleaning, guts and other bodily matter jam the blade and it runs on already scarce and precious gas.”

TECHNOLOGY OF THE WEEK—WIRELESS CAMERA
For the man who has to have it all; this wireless camera runs on a 12v battery and the receiver runs on 4 AA batteries. Good locations to place are vulnerable areas, your emergency escape exit (need to be able to tell if Zack is hanging out back there), in the cage you locked up a zombie to test its senses. The SVAT (company name) receiver can monitor up to 3 wireless cameras (one for your main entrance, one for your emergency exit, one for your caged zombie!) WARNING: A camera is NOT an adequate replacement for Human eyes. While they can SUPPLEMENT those eyes, they can never replace them. Do NOT allow yourself to be lulled into the false sense of security and general complacency caused by the “high-tech miracle solutions” mentality. These camera can be very effective when used correctly and can save on you having to keep people on constant lookout for zombies. Certainly useful for those who like their barricaded forts. CURRENT WORK FOR ZSDW MODS AND ADMINS
Currently there are a number of issues administration and the mods are addressing; one being the home page. We plan on redoing it soon to make it more modern. Skip has already been working on this. We also hope to clean up the old pages and redundant ones. Update: Thanks to Wetpaint Staff member, GreenArrow our homepage looks absolutely fantastic. Another major issue we are taking measures to tackle is the lack of Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar on some pages. We are intending to make major corr ec tions to our ‘Weapons and Gear’ and ‘Survival Plans’ pages.

Thank you for taking time to read this newsletter, the next one should be released by January 27th. Sorry about all the articles being written by Marsden. We are intending to have the community write articles for the Gazette in the future. Until then however, stay safe. ~ The ZSDW Staff
