Description of Contribution:

May has been an interesting month in that there are quite a few transitions that take place.
One major transition that has occurred has been some additions to the National Residence
Hall Honorary (NRHH) Executive Board. This past year, we had four of our five
executive board members graduate, so NRHH had some recruiting to do.

One of the four new additions has made some outstanding contributions thus far to the
organization. That person happens to be the new OTM Specialist: Rachel Quinby. Her
dedication, drive, and passion for the organization and its purpose have her already giving
110% in further developing this relatively new organization and position at the University
of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW).

Rachel has always been an individual that faces challenges head on. At the beginning of
May, she officially took office as the OTM Specialist and went through two tough days of
training, as there are a great deal of logistics that come with the position. Rachel never
complained, and she actually formatted and submitted the OTMs to the state and regional
levels for April. This is not an easy task, as there are specific deadlines and minor details
that challenge the meekest of OTM coordinators.

And with this position, Rachel has already been planning more ways to improve the
quantity, quality, and purpose of OTM writing for UNCW. She wants individuals to write
OTMs to recognize others for their dedication to the cause. During NRHH meetings next
year, Rachel has already planned educational sessions in order for students to understand
the purpose of writing OTMs and to help them with the deadlines, dates, and accessibility
in submissions.
In addition to her role on campus, Rachel also became a member of the North Carolina
Association of Residence Halls (NCARH) Silver Seymour Selection Committee.
Basically, these are the OTMs for the North Carolina level. In the middle of May, she
participated in selecting the top Silver Seymour in each category for the month of April. I
have full confidence that this organization will further its success with Rachel onboard.

Throughout the month, Rachel Quinby also wanted to improve the number of
submissions during the summer. We, as a university, have never had any OTMs submitted
for the months of May, June, or July. It became Rachel’s goal to further educate
individuals, even those not involved in Housing and Residence Life, that they may still
submit. Whenever there are quality programs and individuals, there are quality OTMs.
She sent detailed e-mails out to various staffs and organizations around campus,
informing them that they still may submit OTMs. Due to her approach and determination,
we have quite a number of submissions already for the month of May.

And when Rachel was not working as the OTM Specialist, she served as a quality
Resident Assistant during the last month of classes. May can get pretty crazy for RAs as
well, as there are check-outs and exams in which she needed to study. I honestly cannot
tell you how Rachel managed her time with these various groups. And she still managed
to make the Dean’s List (3.5+)!

Rachel Quinby puts her heart and soul into all of her involvements and extracurricular
activities. I know she will do the same with NRHH. With her quick and successful start in
May, I cannot wait to see what she accomplishes in the future. I am sure there will be
many more OTMs submitted for our OTM Specialist, Rachel Quinby.
