Differences Between African and Asian Elephants There are many differences between Asian and African elephants.

Both types of elephant are members of the same taxonomical family, elephantidae, but are of a different genus; elephas maximus (Asian elephants, Loxodonta africana (African savanna elephants) and Loxodonta cyclotis (African Forest Elephant). Size The African elephant is significantly larger, with bulls growing up to 4m tall. The biggest Asian males reach no more than 3.5m Weight Adult African elephants weigh between 4,000-7,500kg. Asian males weigh between 3000-6,000kg. Head Shape African elephants have fuller, more rounded heads. The top of the head is a single dome whereas Asian elephants have a twin-domed head with an indent in the middle. The lower lips of the two species also differ, being long and tapered in Asian elephants and short and round in Africans. Size of the Ears It is said that you can tell where an elephant comes from by looking at the size of his ears. African ears are like a map of Africa and Asian ears smaller like the shape of India. African ears are much bigger and reach up and over the neck, which does not occur in Asian elephants. Skin African elephants' skin is more wrinkled Ribs In general, African elephants have more ribs than the Asian species, though the number of ribs varies in individual animals. African elephants have up to 21 pairs, Asians up to 20.

Tusks All African elephants, male and female, have tusks - whereas only some male Asian elephants have tusks. African tusks are generally bigger. About 50% of female Asian elephants and a small percentage of males have small tusk like teeth known as tushes. Teeth The lamella profile along the top of the molar teeth of the two species is different with ridges on Asian elephants' teeth being more tightly compressed. The Trunk The African elephants trunk is visibly more heavily ringed and is not as hard as the Asian trunk. The trunk tip is a major difference between the species. The African trunk has two distinct fingers which it uses to pick up and manipulate objects. The Asian elephant has only one finger. The Asian compensates for this by holding objects against the underside of the trunk and appears not to suffer from any lack of maneuverability. Toenails Toenails in the two different species of African elephants vary. As they do between the African and Asian elephants. Although both species of elephant eat a wide variety of plant matter, in general, the Asian elephants diet is made up of a greater proportion of grass and the Africans of leaves.

Difference between Asian and African Elephant Machu Picchu It is situated on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valley in Peru, which is 80 kilometres (50 mi) northwest of Cuzco and through which the Urubamba River flows. It sits majestically between the mountains of Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu in the most unreachable area of the Urubamba River and is surrounded by steep slopes on sheer cliffs. Despite its challenging location, it was built with a strong sense of beauty and great skill. The location and its terrain were difficult but Inca Pachacuti was determined to build upon it. Most archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was built as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti (14381472). Often referred to as "The Lost City of the Incas", it is perhaps the most familiar icon of the Inca World. The Incas started building the estate around AD 1400 but it was abandoned as an official site for the Inca rulers a century later at the time of the Spanish conquest of the Inca Empire. Although known locally, it was unknown to the outside world before being brought to international attention in 1911 by the American historian Hiram Bingham. Since then, Machu Picchu has become an important tourist attraction and, since it was not found and plundered by the Spanish after they conquered the Incas, it is important as a cultural site. Machu Picchu was declared a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary in 1981 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. In 2007, Machu Picchu was voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a worldwide Internet poll.

Theories on why it was built: 1) Hiram Bingham believed that it t was the traditional birthplace of the Incan "Virgins of the Suns". 2) John Rowe and Richard Burger have convinced most archaeologists that Machu Picchu was an estate of the Inca emperor, Pachacuti. 3) Johan Reinhard presented evidence that the site was selected because of its position relative to sacred landscape features such as its mountains, which are purported to be in alignment with key astronomical events that would have been important to the Incas. 4) Another theory maintains that Machu Picchu was an Inca "llaqta", a settlement built to control the economy of these conquered regions. 5) A prision 6) An agricultural testing station There are several ways to reach Machu Picchu: Walking: by taking the Inca Trail to the ruins. By train: Take the train from Cusco along the Urubamba valley Combinations: These itineraries can be combined with trekking programs which begin in the Sacred Valley, canoeing trips and sacred valley tours.

Machu Picchu

Based on my research, I could generalize that when I think about peru , I can think of Machu picchu. Maybe someday I can visited machu picchu . and machu picchu one of the best place in the world. While doing my research, I had figured out that there are a lot of differences between the asia and African elephant , not by physically but also habit. In summary of my topics, The African female elephant has tusks, but the Asian female elephant does not. The African elephant is larger than the Asian elephant in every way larger ears, weighs more, and is taller. The African elephant has wrinkled skin and a concave shape to its back. The back of the Asian elephant is straight. The head of the African elephant is smooth and the head of the Asian elephant has bumps. The trunk of the Asian elephant ends in one finger and that of the African elephant ends in two fingers. There are two living sub-species of the African elephant and four living species of the Asian elephant. And I Feel sad about the asian elephant because they are endangered now , which people are abusive because they killed and sell their ivory in order to gain money , which this is so un selfish , this must be stop About the Machu Picchu , or the lost city of inca as what it was mentioned , Machu Picchu Today , Being named a modern world wonder is a mixed blessing for the people of Cusco , the former center of the Inca world and the closest city to Machu Picchu. The site is a source of national pride for Peru, as well as a valuable tourist attraction. References:
