SYNOPSIS DIGITAL SYSTEM module introduces students to the digital systems including numbering systems, basic logic gates, combinational logic circuits and sequential logic circuits. They will also simplify Boolean expressions using Boolean Algebra Law and Karnaugh Map. Students learn various types of flip-flops and will able to build flip-flops using basic logic gates. This module also describes the basic construction and operation of counters and registers.

OBJECTIVES By the end of the module, students shall be able to: 1. 2. identify analog system and digital system. demonstrate how the binary number, octal number, hexadecimal number, arithmetic operations and codes are used in the digital system. understand the operation and application of logic gates. use Boolean Algebra Law and Karnaugh Map to simplify Boolean expression. differentiate the operation of a asynchronous counter and synchronous counter. explain the operation of a register.

3. 4. 5. 6.
