(a) Find the volume of water in the container. [4]

Diagram 2 shows a cylindrical container of length 12 cm. The circular end of the container has a
centre O. Water from the container as shown in Diagram 1 is poured into the cylindrical container
to fill the container up to the level such that

120 GOH = as shown in Diagram 2.

Calculate
(b) the radius of the cylindrical container, [4]
(c) the interior area of the container which is in contact with the water. [4]

The table below shows the stock of 3 different brands of handbags in a shop. The stocks for the
first 3 days of a month are given below.

Day

Handbag
Day 1 Day 2 Day 3
Brand A 22 24 24
Brand B 16 18 20
Brand C 10 20 15

(a) It is given that A =
22 24 24
16 18 20
10 20 15

and that X =

.

(i) Evaluate AX. [1]
(ii) What do the numbers in AX represent? [1]

For the first three days of the month, the shopowner sold only 20% of Brand A, 50% of
Brand B and 40% of Brand C.

(b) If each Brand A handbag costs $100, Brand B handbag costs $80 and Brand C handbag
costs $75, form three matrices such that their product will give the total amount of sales
of the handbags for the first three days of the month. [3]
(c) Evaluate the product. [2]

10. Answer the whole of this question on a sheet of graph paper.

The variables x and y are connected by the equation
3
9 y x x = .

Some corresponding values of x and y is given in the following table.

x -3 -2.5 -2 -1 -0.5 0 0.5 1 2 2.5 3
y a 6.9 10 8 4.4 0 -4.4 -8 -10 -6.9 0

(a) Calculate the value of a. [1]
