Telephone Outreach Program (TOP) - Fundraiser (STDT AST 3)-On Campus

Position Description: The UC Davis Telephone Outreach Program (TOP) is a unit of the Office of Development and Alumni Relations (DEVAR). DEVAR provides leadership and services to help build philanthropic support for UC Davis' research, teaching and service mission, related fundraising priorities and The Campaign for UC Davis. The TOP is an exciting student outreach program to increase donors, raise contributions for the Chancellor’s discretionary funds and for UC Davis. In addition to making calls on behalf of the university and the colleges, schools and units, TOP student callers are also knowledgeable, front-line customer service representatives building enduring public trust, understanding and support for the university. • Participate in paid training sessions to learn the fundamentals of fundraising, outreach techniques, performance tracking and how to use our computer software to track caller performance, distribute calls and track results of call and dollars donated (e.g., The CampusCALL). The CampusCALL software is quite specialized and will require someone with more than just basic knowledge of computer programs. • Stay up to date on “what’s going on” in the community and “what’s new” in the departments (e.g., Mission, Vision, Goals, campus activities and interesting developments in the schools, colleges and units). • Update demographics information and provide information about the campus. • Interact with diverse constituencies and work collaboratively in teams and with other units of the campus. • Develop effective relationships with staff to maximize the success of special gift fundraising and other advancement activities. • Adhere to strict guidelines for calling. • Required to be on the phone the majority of the shift and must account for any time not calling. • Work evenings and one weekend shift per week. Qualifications: • Eligible for US and student employment. • Highly literate in the English language. • Skill to successfully solicit gift support from individuals with regard to special and/or major gift fund raising as part of the one billion dollar Campaign for UC Davis and to help fund the Chancellor’s Discretionary Fund. • Effective negotiation, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen, build and maintain effective working relationships at all organizational levels and outside constituencies while working in a fast paced environment. • Skill to meet or exceed fundraising goals and objectives. • Skill to articulate a compelling case for the support of UC Davis based on understanding of the mission and culture of a major research university. • Skill to focus, be committed and overcome/persevere through multiple rejections. • Have an enthusiastic and positive attitude, love talking with people who have a connection to UC Davis and enjoy working in a team environment. • Knowledge and understanding of fundraising donor relations and public relations concepts, principles, techniques, procedures and practices, including prospect identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and donor stewardship. • Punctual, dependable and provide high attention to detail. • Consistently produce results at or above minimum performance standards. • Ability to sit for extended periods of time. • Ability to work a minimum of 10.5 hours per week, including one Sunday shift. • Calling seven (7) days a week. Preferred Qualifications: • Prior fundraising or public relations experience • Students with proficiency in languages other than English Starting Wage: $9.25 per hour. Earning potential increases with a robust employee incentive and bonus program with significant performance/promotional based raises.
