Marie Carmichael Stopes Co-Founder of the Modern Eugenics Movement

Marie Carmichael Stopes was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on October 15, 1880 to parents of the privileged European idle class. Her father Henry was an architect and her mother Charlotte was a renowned expert on Shakespeare who had been the first female graduate of a Scottish university. The family traipsed about Europe pursuing their personal interests, and the twin luxuries of time and money gave Marie the means to concoct her bizarre theories about eugenics and parenthood. Marie Stopes was a eugenicist long before she was a birth controller. She was a life member of the Eugenics Society, joining it in 1912 only five years after it was founded. Stopes also was a member of the Malthusian League beginning in 1917, and in 1921 she founded her own Society for Constructive Birth and Racial Progress (CBC), with herself as President and her husband as Secretary. One of the basic tenets of the CBC was that the haphazard production of children by ignorant, coerced, or diseased mothers is profoundly detrimental to the race, and that many men and women should be prevented from procreating children at all, because of their individual ill-health, or the diseased and degenerate nature of the offspring that they may be expected to produce.1 To support this philosophy, the CBC located its clinics in poor areas. The first of these was also the first birth control clinic in the United Kingdom, the Londons Mothers Clinic, which is still in operation. In 1922, Stopes began to publish The Birth Control News. Her emphasis was on improving the race, and the motto of her organization was Babies

in the Right Place. The slogan of the Birth Control News was to advocate Birth Control: Joyous and Deliberate Motherhood, a Sure Light in Our Racial Darkness.

Slogan of The Birth Control News: Birth Control: A Sure Light in Our Racial Darkness. Whatever else we may think of her, Stopes certainly did not have a problem with low self-esteem. She described herself as impregnably honest, utterly fearless, incorruptible by the worldly lures which tend to weaken and deflect most reformers, yet sane, scientific and happy. ... Dr. Stopes, hating all conflict, is fighting on behalf of others.2 A committed syncretist, she claimed divine guidance in her book A New Gospel for All People: A Revelation of God Uniting Physiology and the Religions of Man, addressed to the bishops of the Anglican Lambeth Conference.3 In August of 1939, after Germany annexed Austria and occupied Czechoslovakia, Stopes sent a collection of her mediocre poems entitled Songs for Young Lovers to der Fhrer, along with a fawning letter asking Dear Herr Hitler; love is the greatest thing in the world, so will you accept

from me these [poems] that you may allow the young people of your nation to have them?4 She had previously attended the Third Reichs International Congress for Population Science in Berlin in 1935, two years after Hitler became Chancellor of Germany, and long after his racist and anti-Semitic views had become well-known to the world. In 1952 Stopes was involved in the creation of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), which was established and initially housed rentfree in the offices of the Eugenics Society. Stopes eugenicist views and hatred of the poor are well-documented. In 1919, she urged the National Birth Rate Commission to support the mandatory sterilization of parents who were diseased, prone to drunkenness or of bad character. She also demanded that the sterilization of those totally unfit for parenthood be made an immediate possibility, indeed made compulsory.5 She also said that Utopia could be reached in my life-time had I the power to issue inviolable edicts ... I would legislate compulsory sterilization of the insane, feebleminded ... revolutionaries ... half-castes.6 Marie Stopes writings show that she supported the practice of both positive eugenics (through encouraging more children among the fit), and negative eugenics (through sterilization and birth control among the unfit);

als who threaten the race and the less thrifty and conscientious who bred rapidly and produced children weakened and handicapped by physical as well as mental warping and weakness ...7 young men ... who go out to be killed ... have no sons to carry on the race, but the cowards and unhealthy ones who remain behind can all have wives and children.8

est and worst members of the community, to produce innumerable tens of thousands of stunted, warped and inferior infants. She noted that we as a race slide at an ever increasing speed towards the utter deterioration of our stock.9

Perhaps most startlingly, she said that, if only the world would adopt

her eugenic vision, we would see an entirely new type of human creature, stepping into a future so beautiful, so full of the real joy of selfexpression and understanding that we here today may look upon our grandchildren and think almost that the gods have descended to walk upon the earth.10

At least Stopes was consistent in her application of her belief system an amalgam of idealism, elitism and eugenics, applying it even to her own family. She forced her son Harry to wear a skirt until he was eleven because she did not believe in the ugly and heatinginthewrongplaces garments which most men are condemned to wear, and for the same reason forbade Harry to ride a bicycle. When poor Harry had the bad judgment to marry a nearsighted woman, Stopes not only refused to attend the wedding, she cut him out of her will, saying of his wife, the former Mary Eyre Wallace, She has an inherited disease of the eyes which not only makes her wear hideous glasses so that it is horrid to look at her, but the awful curse will carry on and I have the horror of our line being so contaminated and little children with the misery of glasses. ... Mary and Harry are quite callous about both the wrong to their children, the wrong to my family and the eugenic crime.11 Despite the abuse his mother had heaped on him, Harry rushed to her defense when criticism began to mount. He wrote that she had only acted from a sense of duty towards those less fortunate than herself: If one enters upon historical criticism, however, one should understand the historical context. It was obviously right to put birth control facilities in reach of the poor, as they were the ones in most need.12

Harrys argument bears little weight, because his mother clung to her eugenics philosophy long after the pseudo-science had been thoroughly discredited. In 1956, two years before she died, Marie Stopes asserted that onethird of British men should be forcibly sterilized, starting with the ugly and unfit.13 Harry StopesRoe is currently vicepresident of the British Humanist Association and, according to The Guardian, He now recognizes overpopulation as the most important practical moral problem.14 Marie Stopes cruelty and self-centeredness was not limited to her poor son Harry. She had her first marriage annulled due to her husbands impotence, and hopped from bed to bed for years. Like other progressives of her day and ours, she had little use for the family, the Church, or the sanctity of human life. Self-fulfillment was her tawdry and inadequate god. The abortion industry in particular and liberalism in general have effectively erased Stopes racism and hatred of the poor from the collective memory of an inattentive and uncaring public, primarily because she is an historical reflection of the latte-sipping Left. She has been so thoroughly rehabilitated that readers of the major British leftwing newspaper The Guardian voted her Woman of the Millennium in 1999. MSIs very advantageous collusion with The Guardian continues, with the two entities forming a partnership, along with the British government itself, to hold an International Development Journalism Competition on how to promote awareness of global development issues among the British public in 2008. Beginning in October 2008, Marie Stopes appeared on Great Britains 50pence stamp. She was chosen by an allfemale, allfeminist committee to be one of six women pioneers in the Royal Mails Women of Distinction collection.15 After outraged British citizens objected to Stopes virtual beatification by the Royal Mail, an RM spokesman refused to say how the decision to include Stopes was made. MSI, of course, also refused to comment

on the controversy, employing the standard proabortion tactic of hoping the controversy would just blow over.

Marie Stopes was one of six Women of Distinction honored by the Royal Mail in 2008.

Marie Stopes International (MSI) Willing Tool of Oppressors

Marie Stopes International (MSI) was founded in 1976 and is based in London, England. It is one of the outgrowths of the work of Marie Stopes, the Scottish eugenicist described above, who advocated the forced sterilization of those she considered unfit, and who was one of the founders of todays family planning movement. Marie Stopes and Margaret Sanger were two of the primary forces behind the deadly combination of: (1) eugenics directed at individuals, and (2) contraceptive technology, which in tandem inevitably evolved into the current population control movement.

Events of the past thirty years have proven repeatedly that population control programs are nothing more or less than eugenics practiced on a worldwide scale under the justifications of environmentalism and womens rights. Human rights abuses of massive proportions have always been an integral, if perhaps unintended, side effect of such policies. MSIs overall mission is playing a central role in shaping international policies on population and reproductive health.16 The group has pursued this objective aggressively, and is now one of the largest population control groups in the world, with an annual budget of about $145 million, one-fifth of which is raised in the United States.17 It concentrates its activities in England and about forty poor developing nations, primarily in Africa and Asia.

MSI in the United Kingdom

MSI is the second largest provider of reproductive health services in the United Kingdom, after the National Health Service (NHS) itself. It raises a huge amount of money from these services, charging 440 for an RU-486 abortion, 510 for a surgical abortion up to 14 weeks, and a whopping 1,720 for a surgical abortion up to 24 weeks. MSI also offers a package deal of early surgical abortion and sterilization for 1,500.1 It is no wonder that MSI strongly opposes the lowering of the late abortion limit in the UK from 24 weeks to 20 weeks. After all, the latest abortions are definitely the most profitable. Liz Davies, Director of MSIs UK and Western Europe Operations, attempted to conceal this motivation when she said that Marie Stopes International strongly opposes any lowering of the current time limit for abortion. ... We must recognize that there will always be a need for later terminations, as a proportion of women, through no fault of their own, either do not recognize symptoms of pregnancy or have no reason to suspect that they could possibly be pregnant at all if, for

example, they are regularly using a modern form of contraception.19 Like all other pro-abortion organizations, MSI simply ignores public opinion. Repeated polls of Britons have shown that most strongly disapprove of late abortions, even in the hard cases of rape and incest.

Encouraging More Abortions

MSIs utter disregard for the will of the people extends to the rights of parents as it urges underage girls to have secret abortions. In response to the FAQ, How old do I have to be to have an abortion?, MSIs Web site says: Any woman has the right to access abortion services, although younger women are advised to have counseling to talk their feelings and options through. Abortion services are confidential and no one will be told about your visit unless you want to include your parents and doctor. This statement is consistent with MSIs opinion that abortion, throughout all nine months of pregnancy and for whatever reason, is a basic human right. The group says on its Web site that [W]e always support a womans choice to continue with her pregnancy or have an abortion. If a woman feels that an abortion is in her or her familys best interests, then she should have access to safe, supportive and nonjudgmental advice and help from an expert clinic. No one else should pressure her into either continuing with the pregnancy or having an abortion. The approach MSI takes towards teenagers is entirely typical of proabortion groups which think nothing of usurping the rights of parents and addicting their children to sex and contraception. The groups Web site for teens is located at www.Likeitis.org. It advises pregnant teens to ... talk to someone you trust as soon as possible a doctor,

a teacher, or a family member. ... If you dont feel confident talking to someone you know, then contact a Brook Advisory Centre. Brook has trained, professional counselors, who will not judge you or force you to do anything you dont want to. The Brook Advisory Centres, an outgrowth of Marie Stopes work, is a chain of seventeen British abortion referral and contraception clinics that specifically target their services to young people under 25. MSIs Web sites rarely mention abstinence and its rewards. Instead, they encourage underaged girls to have sex and keep secrets from their parents. One typical question on the Likeitis Web site deals with underage sex; Q: My boyfriend and I feel ready to have sex, but we want to make sure weve got the contraception right. Im 15 and I dont know if I can go on the Pill without telling my mum. A: Girls under 16 can see their family doctor in total confidence and go on the Pill if the doctor thinks they are mature enough to make up their own mind. MSI also promotes extremely unhealthy sexual practices, including sodomy. With regards to homosexuality, Being gay or bisexual (attracted to boys and girls) is not wrong or unnatural, but simply part of a whole range of sexual lifestyles that people find themselves drawn to. ... The important thing is that you are happy with yourself, comfortable with your sexuality and respectful of other peoples choices. There is no mention, of course, of the disastrous health impacts of homosexual behavior, nor of the fact that male and female homosexuals lose an average of 25 years from their life spans.20 MSI also recommends oral sex, which is also often extremely unhealthy:

There are lots of ways of expressing your sexual feelings from holding hands to having full sex. ... Some couples like oral sex, which involves using your mouth to stimulate the other persons genitals. Oral sex is quite normal and can give very intense pleasure, but only if both partners want to try it. Marie Stopes International is entirely typical of pro-abortion organizations, which all claim to want to reduce the incidence of abortion while simultaneously making a lot of money off them and making them as easy as possible to obtain. Need we point out that MSIs attitude is similar to a drug dealer telling all of his clients that crack is bad for them, while selling them as much of it as possible? To begin with, MSI encourages young women to behave in a manner that practically guarantees that they will seek an abortion in the future. In July 2007, it announced that This summer Marie Stopes International is offering women holidaymakers a special safe sex kit to pack next to their beach towels. The compact kit comprises one pack of emergency contraception, condoms, glointhedark Spikeys (to prevent drinks from being spiked with a date rape drug), a copy of the Back Pocket Guide to Sexual Health around the World and a specially designed summer safe sex card. The kit, which also comes with a makeup mirror, is available at each of MSIs nine UK centres for only 15. After specifically equipping them to do so, Kate Worsley, MSIs Head of Medical Development, said, Were not encouraging women holidaymakers to go on abroad specifically to have sex. After encouraging women to have casual sex with condoms that fail one time out of twelve uses,21 MSIs Web site makes obtaining an abortion literally easier than buying a birthday card. Women can call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year (including Easter and Christmas day) to schedule abortion appointments. And MSI boasts that its services are exceptionally quick, es-

pecially compared to the National Health Service: If you are coming to see Marie Stopes International for help with abortion, we can normally see you very quickly, within a few days. If you go to an NHS hospital for an abortion, the wait time varies between areas.

Deformed Consent
In the UK, women are required to be counseled before having an abortion, so MSI set up a telephone counseling service. Anyone who has ever needed counseling in any area whatsoever will tell you that they prefer faceto-face interaction to speaking to an anonymous voice on the phone, but this does not matter to MSI. It set up this kind of service shortly after Emma Beck, who aborted her twins after cursory telephoneonly counseling, committed suicide. Emma said before hanging herself that Living is hell for me. I should never have had an abortion. I told everyone I didnt want to do it, even at the hospital. I want to be with my babies. They need me, no one else does. The abortionist who killed Emmas twins said coldly, I am satisfied that everything was done to make sure that Emma consented to the operation.22 MSIs brand of informed consent is also quite typical of pro-abortion groups they consent to inform women about only that information that will push them towards buying an abortion. In 2007, a British television station aired footage of a 15-week abortion. An MSI spokesman objected strenuously, saying, without the slightest trace of irony, that I do not think footage like that actually contributes. We believe everyone is entitled to their opinion and should not be foisting their opinion on others.23 He failed to mention, of course, that the television show featured an MSI abortionist doing the procedure, and that no opinions were expressed the only thing shown was actual footage of an abortion.

MSI in the Poorer Nations

Without doubt, MSI is a leading player in the United Kingdoms abortion, contraception, and sex education business and related politics. Not only is the UK important in her own right, but through her connections to her former Empire, she has an enormous influence on much of the Third World. MSI takes full advantage of the history of its home nation. Through its international network, Marie Stopes International promotes abortion, contraception and population control all over the world even in nations where such activities are illegal. It accomplishes this in part with money raised in the UK. MSIs Web site says that Some of the money from the fees people pay in our UK centers goes towards supporting our work in developing countries. In addition to performing a huge number of abortions in the UK, Marie Stopes International maintains offices in forty countries in Africa, Asia, Latin American, Europe and Australia, with a paid staff of more than 4,000. The number of MSI clinics increased to 477 worldwide in 2007. According to its Web site, MSI also has thousands of outreach sites that serve rural, hardtoreach communities. MSI also greatly increased the number of its female sterilizations to 477,234 in 2007, and opened operations in Ghana, Mexico City, Papua New Guinea and Timor Leste in that year. MSI operates nine centers in the United Kingdom, but the vast majority of its clinics about 90 percent are located in the developing world, including five in Bolivia, ten in Australia (primarily targeting aboriginals), 24 in South Africa, 25 in Kenya, 48 in Pakistan, and more than one hundred in Bangladesh.24 MSIs own publications and statistics show that it is far more concerned with population control and abortion than with maternal health. In 2006, MSI says that it delivered health services to 4.6 million clients; protected more than 9.86 million couples from unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abor-

tion; provided over 400,000 safe abortions; distributed more than 125 million condoms and 10 million pill cycles; safely delivered over 8,000 babies; [and] launched three new country programs.25 These figures show that MSI is much more concerned with ending lives than improving them, with a ratio of fifty babies aborted to each baby delivered in 2006. Since that time, MSI has greatly increased the number of abortions it has performed. In 2010, it announced that it has performed 920,000 surgical and medical abortions in 43 nations the previous year and this does not count the illegal abortions it commits all over the world. MSIs wholly-owned subsidiary Options Consultancy Services (OCS) was founded in 1992 and has operations in Cambodia, Nepal, Pakistan, South Africa, Syria, Turkey, the Caribbean and India. OCS has announced its intention to set up 76 abortion clinics in Cambodia.26 MSI also intends to continue its rapid worldwide expansion, and wants to be active in nearly fifty nations by the end of 2010, protecting 20 million couples per year from unplanned pregnancy and unsafe abortion. One of the ways it intends to accomplish this objective is by promoting medical abortion all over the world. RU-486 is ideal for MSI, because the pill can be dispensed by any person, making abortion clinics unnecessary and making it difficult for pro-life governments or pro-life groups to trace. In 2006, MSI did medical abortions in 14 nations, and doubled this to 28 in Asia and Africa the following year.

Ignoring the Will of the People

The developed world elites invariably use coercion, bribery and propaganda to convince other countries to legalize abortion, either through the courts or through the national legislatures. They never consult the people. MSI unwittingly illustrated this principle when it launched its online petition campaign for worldwide abortion at its Global Safe Abortion

Conference in London in October 2007. The petition called for full access to legal, voluntary, safe and affordable abortions as part of comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care around the world, and for womens access to legal, safe abortion to be recognized as a fundamental human right. Marie Stopes presented its petition to the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on International Human Rights Day on December 10, 2008. MSIs petition, which was cosponsored by the proabortion groups IPAS and the UKbased group Abortion Rights, flopped miserably. After a year of effort, MSI had only garnered 650 signatures and a hundred of these were employees of the three cosponsoring organizations!27 A week after the signature campaign ended, none of the three sponsoring groups mentioned their miserable failure on their Web sites. By contrast, the International Call for the Rights and Dignity of the Human Person and the Family, launched by the Catholic Family & Human Rights Institute (CFAM), collected 26,000 signatures in two weeks flat. CFAM President Austin Ruse said, We have known all along that support for radical abortion rights is supported mostly by elites. Ask everyday citizens around the world about abortion, and they are against it.28 Also on December 10, an incredible 5.4 million families submitted petitions to the United Nations asking that its Universal Declaration on Human Rights be extended to preborn children all over the world.29 Most pro-abortion groups claim to have the support of the grass roots, but this MSI debacle shows who really has the support of the people when a lavishly funded $85 million population control group is hopelessly outclassed by C-FAM, whose income is about one percent that of MSIs.

Ignoring the Law

Not only does MSI ignore the will of the people, it completely disregards the laws promulgated by their elected governments.

For Marie Stopes International, like so many other pro-abortion and population control organizations, ideology trumps everything, even national laws. During MSIs 2007 Global Safe Abortion Conference in London, Paul Cornellisson, MSIs Program Director for South Africa, stated on video that We do illegal abortions all over the world.

It is beyond ironic that the primary theme of MSIs 2007 Global Safe Abortion Conference concerned the threats of illegal abortion to the women of the world, yet MSI is committing them everywhere itself!

For example, one MSI nurse in Nairobi, Kenya openly admitted to a journalist that she committed abortions, and even showed him her abortion procedure room. Showing the universal proabortion disregard for both truth and the law, she said Yes, we perform abortions here. I myself do it also. ... I am not afraid [of being arrested]. If they come here, I will only show them to the main office [at another address]; they have to go that way in order to visit the clinic here. And if they were to come here and ask questions, I would just say that I dont perform abortions. One anonymous MSI-Kenya official admitted that manual vacuum aspirations (MVAs), handheld suction devices, were being used to perform abortions up to and even past 16 weeks gestation, and that the abortions were being labeled postabortion care or menstrual regulation.30 The price to buy a dead baby from MSI in Nairobi is only $19.50.31 Tanzania is another Eastern African nation that has very pro-life laws. However, MSIs internal documents show that their clinics perform thousands of illegal abortions annually. In 2005, women claiming to be pregnant and seeking abortions for convenience reasons appeared at four MSI clinics, and all of them were told they could be immediately scheduled for abortions.32 MSI completely ignores even the most trivial restrictions on abortion in its mad rush to make money. South Africa has one of the most pro-abortion laws on earth, featuring only the most cursory and minimal licensing of abortion mills. Yet MSI found even these regulations to be burdensome, and operated four unlicensed abortion mills even after the government threatened it with legal sanctions. MSI stalled for months, continuing to operate because, in its lofty opinion, it considered the nations abortion laws outdated.33 This demonstrates MSIs arrogance and disregard for the health of women in its blind pursuit of holding down the population.

MSI in China
Marie Stopes International has been active in the Peoples Republic of China since 2000. It currently operates five family planning clinics in the country and hopes to expand rapidly in the near future. The abuses rampant in Chinas official one child policy have been exhaustively documented for more than twenty years, so MSI cannot possibly claim ignorance in defense of its activities there. Chinas Communist government officially forbids most women from having more than one child, and goes so far as to chart their menstrual cycles and monitor their use of birth control. Women who dare to attempt a second pregnancy are mercilessly harassed by local family planning officials until they submit to an abortion, often in the late second or third trimester. If they endure and give birth, the newborn is often murdered by doctors or is shuffled off to one of Chinas notorious dying rooms. Wives and husbands who have a second child face beatings, destruction of their homes, heavy fines, loss of employment and health benefits, and loss of educational benefits for their children. Marie Stopes International simply turns a blind eye to all of this horror and, in fact, directly assists it. Lily Liu Liqing, MSIs Program Director in China, attended MSIs 2007 Global Safe Abortion Conference and boasted of the close connection between MSI and the Chinese governments abusive population control program. An obvious master of understatement, Liqing said that abortion is legal in China, and China has a very good and strong family planning program. What Marie Stopes International can do is trying [sic] to work with the government and trying to improve the quality of services of the government, and trying to achieve the impact that MSI cannot do alone.34 Liqing did not even hint at the horrors inflicted by the Chinese government on pregnant women and newborn infants the torture, the coercion, the forced abortion, sterilization and contraception, and the countless thousands of infant girls murdered or left to starve to death.

Liqings attitude is typical of MSI workers. If you ignore an unpleasant truth, then maybe it will go away or at least you can hope that the people who do bring it up do not have the level of media access necessary to cause problems. MSIs Web site and its printed materials stress the right to abortion and the right to sexual and reproductive health, but never mention the right to have children or the right to be free of coercion and meddling in their most intimate decisions. MSI boasts that Chinese government family planning organizations have praised it lavishly; The Government of China has praised Marie Stopes International China (MSI China), currently working with Jiangsu Population and Family Planning Commission to transform the government family planning program in Jiangsu province, making it more clientfriendly and ensuring the highest clinical standards are met. After a visit to Jiangsus relaunched family planning centers in Lianshui county, Dr. Zhao Baige, Vice Minister of National Population and Family Planning Commission of China (NPFPC) spoke highly of the centers pleasant environment and the personal service and affectionate care offered by the staff.35 MSI was thrilled with this praise, saying that this is a terrific acknowledgement by the government of China of the potential impact of MSIs work in the Jiangsu technical assistance project, in terms of remodeling the government approach. MSI China is now replicating this work in a second province and has been approached by a third. Indeed, China considers MSI such a good source of information that Shanghai Family Planning Commission Minister Zhang Weiqing visited MSI headquarters in London in 2002.36 What exactly is MSI doing in China?

Naturally, it asserts that it is trying to decrease the need for abortion by distributing more and more contraception. Samantha Guy of MSI said that We are working for the opposite of that [coercion] to reduce abortion and increase choices.37 Predictably, instead of helping reduce the incidence of abortions in China, Marie Stopes International is directly contributing to women having more and more of them. MSIs abortion mill in Qingdao is performing an exponentially increasing number of abortions, and some women are having as many as six abortions there. Family planning scholar Gu Baochang of Beijings Renmin University says that We can see it beginning in larger cities and the smaller cities, even down to the developing counties. More and more abortions are for unmarried women. It is a very clear trend.38. This shows that MSI not only directly supports coercion in China, it profits from it. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is one of the largest supporters of Chinas family planning program, and has praised MSI as one of its most important partners in this work. UNFPAs former Executive Director, Thoraya Obaid, said that Marie Stopes International is one of UNFPAs most valued partners in the great work we are doing together [in China].39 UNFPA was defunded by the United States government precisely because of its cooperation in these large-scale human rights abuses. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) also found that MSI was directly involved in this program, stating that MSI is the major implementer of the United Nations Population Funds (UNFPA) family planning program in China, which was found by the State Department, under KempKasten provisions, to support or participate in the management of a program of coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization.40 After USAID stopped funding MSI under the 1985 KempKasten Amendment, MSI chief executive Dana Hovig denied all allegations, saying

that to the contrary, MSI is one of the few organizations that has worked over the past decade to increase the availability of voluntary, clientcentered family planning services in China. He angrily blasted the USAID decision as purely political and dangerous to the lives of women. ... At a time when governments have pledged to increase their commitment to improving the health of women, only the Bush administration could find logic in the idea that they can reduce abortion and promote choice for women in China by causing more abortion.41 USAID not only removed funding from MSI in China, but in other developing nations as well. MSI complained that the result would be 325,000 extra unwanted pregnancies and 65,000 extra abortions in the six African countries it works in. But USAID simply donated contraceptives withheld from MSI to other population control groups, meaning that exactly the same amount of birth control would be distributed overall. This means that both MSI and Hovig were simply lying.42

MSIs Public Enemy Number One Guess Who?

Marie Stopes International (MSI) recognizes that the Catholic Church is its primary foe worldwide, and its hatred of the Church is well-documented. In 1998, population controller and professional anti-Catholic bigot Stephen D. Mumford published a repulsive screed entitled The Life and Death of NSSM 200: How the Destruction of Political Will Doomed a U.S. Population Policy, in which he revealed that About 25 years ago, after much observation and thought, I concluded that the popes system of morals was immoral. John Paul II does not interest himself in the truth.... We acknowledge that this sinister man is the moral leader of the world. We permit him to make the rules in spite of his outrageous views and claims. ... the Papacy is the enemy ... From Cardinal Ratzinger: Screw American democracy. ...

He is our enemy ... Yet Tim Black, former Chief Executive of Marie Stopes International, said that Mumford had written A fascinating and disturbing insight into a population policy that could have changed the world but for the machinations of the Vatican.44

MSIs Ridiculous and Repulsive Activities

WARNING! The material in this segment is truly disgusting and will scandalize the easily offended. Please do not let underage persons or those with possible sexual addictions read this information. Also, if you have a low tolerance for true human stupidity, do not read any further. Reginald Ruggles Gates, Marie Stopes first husband, claimed that she was supersexed to a degree which was almost pathological.45 Stopes certainly appeared to be a sex addict, and this preoccupation has undoubtedly been transferred to Marie Stopes International, which publishes much of the kind of material that is usually restricted to so-called adult book stores in the United States. MSI makes Planned Parenthood look like a bunch of blushing virgins, because it is even more sex-mad than its corrupt founder, and sees the world exclusively through flesh-covered glasses. As bad as Planned Parenthood can be, it would never dare peddle some of the pornographic materials and activities that Marie Stopes uses as a matter of course. MSI mindlessly pushes beyond the pornographic and obscene to the just plain ridiculous and laughable. Anyone with a particle of decency or common sense can see that many of its activities are simply absurd and richly deserving of ridicule and mockery. Let us begin with the United Kingdoms first MasturbateaThon, held in 2006. Marie Stopes International and the Terrence Higgins Trust (the UKs largest HIV and sexual health charity) were the two beneficiaries, for whom self-abusers could gather pledges. Monitors were present to count the minutes that everyone spent selfpleasuring, and participants competed to win the Most Orgasms prize (no fake orgasms, please). hours and 32 minutes, set by an American man. But the Brits could not quite rise to the challenge, and the champion masturbator could only set a self-abuse record of six and one-half hours (somebody is sure going to be sore in the morning)! The Masturbate-a-Thon Web site notes that All soiled materials collected shall be removed by qualified cleaning personnel wearing at the least: shoes and clean examination gloves. Its Web page links back to the laughably-named Center for Sex and Culture (based in where else? San Francisco), which originated the concept, and which sports its own WankBlog. The CSC Web site is designed by Red Handed Porn.46 As comedian Dave Barry so often says I swear I am not making any of this up! But you do have to be worried about the pitiful human beings who suffer such wasted lives that they have nothing better to do. Evil, it seems, has rapidly proceeded beyond banality to sheer stupidity. If this is not enough to nauseate you, lets move on to MSIs Cockpuppets. As the name implies (screams?), MSI shows videos depicting giggling young women dressing up mens sexual organs in little firefighter and palace guard costumes, among others. Then the cockpuppets put on inane and pointless 30-second skits For the Marie Stopes Sex Appeal. The purpose of this ridiculous Web site is to sell MSIs Vixen line of condoms.47

MSIs Cover the World with Condoms Postcard Not surprisingly, the primary vendors of MSIs Vixen condoms are porn sites. On one of these sites (which praises MSI to the skies), you can purchase sex toys and adult novelties, and can find detailed photos and biographies on your favorite porn stars with names like Flick Shagwell. And, of course, you can sign a petition to remove all limits on hard-core pornography. Finally, if you truly are a world-class loser, you can even have (virtual) sex with porn star Jenna Jameson.48 Had enough yet? No? A real glutton for punishment, eh? Well, then, lets try Pinky Bits the Sex Fairy Meets the Big O. What is this?, you ask. If you really want to know, it is another animated cartoon promoting MSIs Vixen condoms. It follows the story of a fairy who cant get her box

to work properly, so she hops on her pony and searches for a solution. She finally meets up with the Big O, who brought her box to life, and, amidst various sexual groanings and moanings, we learn that With Vixen, Women Always Come First. The one-minute cartoon is brought to us for The Marie Stopes Sex Appeal.49

Pinky Bits the Sex Fairy has a problem. And then there is MSIs Sex Bomb. Not content with polluting the current generation, MSI seems intent on corrupting future ones as well. The Sex Bomb portion of its Web site features cheesy background music designed to sound like the soundtrack to a cheap porn flick, and animated couples having sex make up part of the background. People can select their favorite sexual position, either homosexual or normal. The Sex Bomb itself is a time capsule laden with pornography, and MSI hopes that archaeologists of the future will unearth the Sex Bomb and discover the secret sex lives of todays society the raciest history lesson ever!

The Web site also asks teenagers what is your sexiest place for sex? They can check off boxes that include: In front of an audience, In the cinema, In an aeroplane, In a shop changing room, In the Eurostar [train] under the Channel, In a graveyard, and In your parents bed. The Sex Bomb was buried in November 2008 at Marie Stopes House.50 If humanity ever comes to its senses, the Sex Bomb will be found and displayed in a future museum as a monument to the sheer idiocy of our times. If its filthy or just plain inexplicably weird, you can bet that Marie Stopes International is tied up in it somehow. The Pleasure Project organization oneups The Vagina Monologues with its Vaginal Wall, where women Draw a Vagina, your vagina, a vagina you know well or your vision of one.51 The Pleasure Projects publication The Global Mapping of Pleasure praises MSIs Masturbate-a-Thon.52 If female sexual organs dont appeal to you, try talking bollocks. What You Can Do About MSI

It may seem intimidating indeed to go up against a huge population control organization, which itself is only a small part of the multi-billion dollar population control cartel. The two most important impediments that stop people from getting involved in the fight against the Culture of Death are their feelings of helplessness and anxiety. A feeling of helplessness is caused by a lack of power, and a lack of power is caused by disorganization. Anxiety is caused by uncertainty, and uncertainty is caused by a lack of knowledge. The solutions to these problems are training and organization. Over the years, experienced pro-lifers have stopped abortion many times in nations all over the world, and have developed a very effective method for fighting the scores of well-funded population control groups that seem at first to seem so invincible. This general procedure is summarized by the acronym POPE Pray, Organize, Plan and Expose/Educate. If you feel called to fight the population controllers, you must first of all pray. Ask God for guidance, and ask Him to make your course of action abundantly clear. Listen to what He has to say with a willing heart and an open mind. If He has a mission for you, He will make it clear to you. But you have to faithfully listen in order to hear. You will be facing an implacable enemy that represents a direct and immediate threat to Faith and family. This enemy, unwittingly inspired and directed by Satan, natu-

rally uses all of his tools, including lies, deception, and the most vicious of personal attacks. To better resist these assaults, you need to get organized. Find a good spiritual director and begin to hold meetings with others who share your interests. As time goes on, you will grow stronger, especially when you get the proper training (Human Life International can provide this kind of training).55 As you gather information on the population controllers and recruit others, your strength and confidence will grow. When you believe you are ready, you may begin planning for your first mission against the population controllers. Lay out your six mission parameters the mission, the focus of your efforts, your opposition, your resources, the environment under which you will work, and what tactics you will use. Finally, you will be ready to expose the population controllers and educate the public. You might document MSIs repulsive and pornographic activities and approach decisionmakers with your material. Your ultimate objective is to get Marie Stopes International and all of the other population control groups kicked out of your country, because all they bring is misery and corruption.
