Boldly proclaiming the Gospel

I use to be a believer. now I’m a Iollower!
This is not a message that will be openly received by a church at ease. Iilled with traditions and
doctrines oI men. One that is worldly and rich. having need oI nothing. and has never known
persecution. The lukewarm will not appreciate God’s. “Baptism oI Fire (Lk 12:50)” due to the
shame oI their nakedness (sin) and blindness (deception). This is a message that will only make
sense when one has truly embraced the Lord with a mature living Iaith having put SELF aside.
Acts 14:22. “ConIirming the souls oI the disciples. and exhorting them to continue in the
Iaith. and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom oI God.”
The purpose of this tract:
You will never realize your true destiny in God
until you stop trying to avoid your witness in Him.
Luke 9:23. “And he (Jesus) said to them all. II any man will come after me. let
him deny himselI. and take up his cross daily. and follow me.”
1 Peter 2:21. “For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suIIered
Ior us. leaving us an example. that ye should follow his steps:”
He’s calling
Much like the world. popular Christendom likes to come up with witty Ieel
good sayings/Iads which can be mass marketed and sold as all sorts oI trinkets and
paraphernalia. Perhaps you have heard oI the phrase. “What would Jesus do (WWJD)?”
Supposedly when one Iinds oneselI in an unsure situation. they iust evoke this spiritual test to
determine the correct course oI action (or they could listen to the Holy Spirit). UnIortunately.
the remedy is only as good as the devotion oI the practitioner. In actuality. those who wear the
necklaces and bracelets would have to evoke the test to such a degree every time the television
is turned-on that they would have to stop watching it. and I do not think this has been the case
(but I pray it would be). For most. this will become yesterday’s pet rock idea that will be
considered a bit too restrictive to one’s selI-will. Many get caught up in speculative reasoning
which no doubt varies Irom one to another and is certainly highly inIluenced by the whims oI
the Ilesh (depending on how much one wants to do the thing in question). Rather than wonder
what Jesus would do. have we not missed the obvious? Why not ask. “What did Jesus do?”
Did you know? Jesus was sent oI another but eagerly came.
Did not speak His own words; did not perIorm His own works; submitted to another’s will
(putting His will totally aside); Iorsook the things oI the world – having only the clothes on His
back; was persecuted by the religious; and traveled the “Way oI the Cross” resulting in His
laying down His physical liIe Ior you.

Jesus oIten used the term. “follow me” and he certainly set the proper example. It would be very
wise oI us to take note oI how Jesus walked and apply the same devotion in our lives.
Many believers are content to live out their natural lives sitting on a pew. on certain days. in a
large religious structure listening to non-oIIensive. politically-correct. Ieel-good messages. The
Iact is that the message that Jesus brought was very oIIensive to most. particularly the religious.
John 3:19-20. “And this is the condemnation. that light is come into the world. and men loved
darkness rather than light. because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the
light. neither cometh to the light. lest his deeds should be reproved.” Further - Matthew 10:34-
36. “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace. but a sword. For
I am come to set a man at variance against his Iather. and the daughter against her mother. and
the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's Ioes shall be they oI his own
household.” The truth oI God’s Word separates. Luke 21:17. “And ye shall be hated oI all men
Ior my name's sake.” There will not be big crowds where the truth is really spoken – iust devoted
The message: Repent. put SELF aside and Iollow Christ daily! – A living faith!

John 8:12. “Then spake again unto them. saying. I am the light oI the world: he that
me shall not walk in darkness. but shall have the light oI liIe.”
Follow - To obey; to observe; to practice; to act in conformity to. To go after
(adhere to) or behind in a journey, but in the same direction (as in keeping your
eyes/heart fixed upon the example or set pattern of Jesus). To imitate (copy – be the
same as). To move on in the same course or direction. To be led or guided by; as, to
follow a track or course. To embrace; to adopt and maintain Christ’s example (down
the narrow path). To continue pursuit or endeavor; to persevere. It is our duty to
follow the commands of Christ - Good servants follow the directions of their master.

Following Christ is equated to a narrow. inIrequently traveled path which leads to
eternal liIe (Matthew 7:14). Following the course oI the world is equated to a broad. popular
well traveled path which leads to everlasting damnation (Matthew 7:13). The sad Iact is that Iew
choose to travel this narrow path even though it is open to all. most iust Iollow their carnal
desires. Luke 13:23. “Then said one unto him. Lord. are there Iew that be saved? And he said
unto them. Strive to enter in at the strait gate: Ior many. I say unto you. will seek to enter in. and
shall not be able.” Many hope to enter the gate. but have no desire to iourney down the path.
What hinders you Irom entering the narrow gate and traveling this narrow path? Let us examine
Jesus Christ’s walk. our example – the one we are to Iollow. and you decide!
The author does not intend to give the impression that we will obtain the same merits
as Christ (in Iollowing) Ior all who read this have sinned and he alone is truly worthy (without
sin). Luke 6:40. “The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perIect shall be as
his master.” We are Iurther told in Matthew 10:25 that a disciple shall be as his master and a
servant as his lord. Who says we have to be perIect? Jesus did – Matthew 5:48. “Be ye thereIore
perIect. even as your Father which is in heaven is perIect.” The main point here is that Jesus
oIten said. “Iollow me.” Where was Jesus going? He was submitting himselI to the Father’s
will as he traveled the way oI the cross.
No turning back. No turning back
I have decided to Iollow Jesus
1 Peter 2:21-22. “For even hereunto were ye called: because
Christ also suIIered Ior us. leaving us an example. that ye

Jesus lived a liIe devoid/absent oI SELF and He perIectly kept the Father’s will. He always
reached out in love to others. Let us examine this liIe that was given Ior our example.

God the Father sent Jesus the Son so that we (man) might have reconciliation to HimselI
through the Son. Jesus eagerly leIt the glories oI heaven to perIorm the Father’s will. Jesus put
His very “being (Godhood)” aside to IulIill the Father’s plan Ior mankind. In doing so. Christ

and death and bring reconciliation to the Father. He had to totally reiect his own will and
absolutely perIorm the Father’s will. By living in the Father’s will. Jesus IulIilled the law and
lived a perIect sinless liIe thus pleasing the Father. Romans 5:19. “For as by one man's
disobedience many were made sinners. so by the obedience oI one shall many be made
righteous.” This gave Jesus the over Satan (and sin and death) and He could proclaim:

We are now to put our lives aside (die to SELF) and
serve Jesus
1 Thessalonians 2:12. “That ye would walk worthy oI God. who hath called you unto
his kingdom and glory.”
Emptied of self-sufficiency and self-confidence
Conformed to Christ’s image - the firstborn among many
This is what liIe’s all about Ior those who love the Lord – conIorming to the very image oI
Christ. When we are obedient to Christ (Doers oI His Word) and are led by the Holy Spirit we
change! We abide in Christ and bear Iruit meet Ior repentance (Mat Chapter 15. Acts 26:20).
We also serve each other:
John 13:13. “Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; Ior so I am.”
Mark 10:42-44. “But Jesus called them to him. and
saith unto them. Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise
lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. But so shall it not be
among you: but whosoever will be great among you. shall be your minister: And whosoever oI
you will be the chieIest. shall be servant of all.”
Matthew 23:11. “But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.”
Not a man
Matthew 4:6-7. “And saith unto him. II thou be the Son oI God. cast thyselI down: Ior it is
written. He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee
up. lest at any time thou dash thy Ioot against a stone. Jesus said unto him. It is written again.
Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.” Again the devil appealed to any doubt that Jesus
might have had as to who He was (and to His pride). Notice that the devil can quote scripture
even though he misapplies it. Satan’s workers do the same (2 Corinthians 11:13-15) and we are
to beware. Again. Jesus is humble/meek (does not exalt selI) and responds with God’s Word.
Matthew 4:8-10. “Again. the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain. and
sheweth him all the kingdoms oI the world. and the glory oI them; And saith unto him. All

these stones be made bread. But he answered and said. It is written. Man shall not live by bread
alone. but by every word that proceedeth out oI the mouth oI God.” The devil always tempts at a
point oI weakness. Jesus must have been very hungry aIter Iorty days without Iood; nevertheless
He denied selI to perIorm the will oI the Father. Jesus would later state: John 4:34. “Jesus saith
unto them. My meat is to do the will of him that sent me. and to finish his work.” Satan also
questioned Jesus’ divinity thereby tempting Him to prove HimselI. Jesus appropriately responded
with the Word oI God (as we are to do) establishing His intention to live totally within the
Father’s will.
these things will I give thee. iI thou wilt Iall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him.
Get thee hence. Satan: Ior it is written. Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God. and him only
shalt thou serve.” Lastly. Jesus is tempted with great power. but puts all selI interest aside and
proclaims that He will serve only the Father – Praise God! Note: temptation itselI is not a sin.
Incorrectly responding to a temptation produces a sin. For those who seek. God provides a
way out.
Galatians 2:20. “I am cruciIied with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I. but Christ liveth in
me: and the liIe which I now live in the Ilesh I live by the faith of the Son of God. who loved
me. and gave himselI Ior me.”
We must die to SELF and live for Christ
John 8:28-29. “Then said Jesus unto them. When
ye have liIted up the Son oI man. then shall ye know that I am he. and that I do nothing of
myself; but as my Father hath taught me. I speak these things. And he that sent me is with me:
the Father hath not leIt me alone; Ior I do always those things that please him.”
John 5:19-20. “Then answered Jesus and said unto them. Verily. verily. I say unto you. The Son
can do nothing of himself. but what he seeth the Father do: Ior what things soever he doeth. these
also doeth the Son likewise. For the Father loveth the Son. and sheweth him all things that himselI
doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these. that ye may marvel.”

Jesus never sought earthly things – no house. lands. career. money. possessions. power. etc. Jesus
never instructed His disciples to seek worldly things either – not even to build big church buildings
or cathedrals. Jesus didn’t come to establish a physical kingdom but a spiritual one. Luke 17:21.
“Neither shall they say. Lo here! or. lo there! Ior. behold. the kingdom of God is within you.”
Jesus proclaimed that He did nothing oI HimselI but only that which the Father desired. This is
a liIe where SELF has been completely put to death. Christ’s delight was Iound in pleasing the
Father by perIorming the Father’s will. This was so complete that Jesus could make the
Iollowing statement when Iacing death (and taking on the sin oI the world – separation Irom the
Father): Luke 22:42. “Saying. Father. iI thou be willing. remove this cup Irom me: nevertheless
not my will, but thine, be done.”
John 8:54-55. “Jesus answered. II I honour myselI. my honour is nothing: it is my Father that
honoureth me; oI whom ye say. that he is your God: Yet ye have not known him; but I know
him: and iI I should say. I know him not. I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him. and
keep his saying.”

We are now to put our lives aside and live for Jesus
– His will!
John 8:51. “Verily. verily. I say unto you. If a man keep my saying. he shall never see death.”
John 14:23. “Jesus answered and said unto him. II a man love me. he will keep my words: and
my Father will love him. and we will come unto him. and make our abode with him.”
1 Peter 4:2. “That he no longer should live the rest oI his time in the Ilesh to the lusts oI men.
but to the will of God.”
Matthew 12:50. “For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven. the same is
my (Christ’s) brother. and sister. and mother.”
John 7:16. “Jesus answered them. and said. My doctrine is not mine. but his that sent me.”
John 12:49-50. “For I have not spoken of
myself; but the Father which sent me. he gave me a commandment. what I should say, and what
I should speak. And I know that his commandment is liIe everlasting: whatsoever I speak
thereIore. even as the Father said unto me. so I speak.”
Jesus proclaimed (as a man) that he could do nothing oI HimselI. likewise neither can we: John
15:5. “I am the vine. ye are the branches: He that abideth in me. and I in him. the same bringeth
Iorth much Iruit: Ior without me ye can do nothing.”

You must turn oII the television (or radio) and put down the newspaper (or magazines) or any

Jesus depended upon the Holy Spirit to accomplish His work on earth: Acts 10:38. “How God

and healing all that were oppressed oI the devil; Ior God was with him.”
Jesus came to the earth as a man. He completely yielded His will to the Father and was led oI
the Spirit (1 John 5:7) in all things. Jesus proclaimed IulIillment oI the prophecy oI Esaias by
proclaiming : Luke 4:18-19. “The Spirit oI the Lord is upon me. because he hath anointed me

John 15:26. “But when the ComIorter is come. whom I will send unto you Irom the Father. even

1) At Jesus’ baptism (perIormed by John the Baptist): Luke 3:22. “And the Holy Ghost

A kingdom not of this world: Jesus knew the Father’s will - that he would be
the sacriIice Ior the sinIulness oI mankind. Even so He was tempted with a worldly kingdom.
yet denied himselI to perIorm God’s will: John 6:15. “When Jesus thereIore perceived that they
would come and take him by force. to make him a king. he departed again into a mountain
himselI alone.” Jesus would later proclaim to Pilate: John 18:36. “Jesus answered. My kingdom
is not oI this world: iI my kingdom were oI this world. then would my servants Iight. that I
should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not Irom hence.”

Jesus emptied himselI oI His own will and went about
speaking the words oI the Father and doing the Father’s works. On two separate occasions the
Father expressed His pleasure with the Son.
One day, we want to hear Christ say, “Well done good
and faithful servant.”

Romans 5:6-8. “For when we were yet without
strength. in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely Ior a righteous man will one
die: yet peradventure Ior a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his
love toward us. in that. while we were yet sinners. Christ died Ior us.”
Would you give your very liIe Ior those who hate you and despiteIully use you? For those who
were iust plain undeserving? Christ gave everything He had – His very liIe Ior you! Is this not
precious to you?
John 10:11. “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his liIe Ior the sheep.”
John 10:15. “As the Father knoweth me. even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life Ior
the sheep.”
His life wasn’t taken – He gave

John 15:13. “Greater love hath no man than this. that a man lay down his life Ior his Iriends.”
John 10:17-18. “ThereIore doth my Father love me. because I lay down my liIe. that I might
take it again. No man taketh it from me. but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it
down. and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received oI my Father.”
Philippians 2:7-8. “But made himself of no reputation. and took upon him the form of a

humbled himself. and became obedient unto death. even the death oI the cross.”
God humbled Himself – became a
For you!
1 John 3:16. “Hereby perceive we the love oI God. because he

What About Us?
Revelation 2:10. “…be thou faithful unto death. and I will give thee a crown oI liIe.”
Philippians 3:10. “That I may know him. and the power oI his resurrection. and the Iellowship
oI his suIIerings. being made conformable unto his death;”
The way of the cross is death to
1 Peter 4:1-2. “Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh. arm yourselves
likewise with the same mind: Ior he that hath suIIered in the Ilesh hath ceased Irom sin; That he
no longer should live the rest oI his time in the Ilesh to the lusts oI men. but to the will of God.”
Philippians 1:29. “For unto you it is given in the behalI oI Christ. not only to believe on
him. but also to suffer for his sake;”
2 Timothy 3:12. “Yea. and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.”
Jesus Triumphed:
Jesus legally triumphed over Satan. The penalty Ior sin is death:
Romans 5:10. “WhereIore. as by one man sin entered into the world. and death by sin; and so
death passed upon all men. Ior that all have sinned:” - For the wages oI sin is death (Romans
6:23). The sting oI death is sin (1 Cor 15:56). But…Jesus never sinned - yet Satan killed Him.
Die to live?
Recall Luke 22:2-4. “Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot. being oI the number oI
the twelve. And he went his way. and communed with the chieI priests and captains. how he
might betray him unto them (also John 13:27).” Satan orchestrated Christ’s death. even though
all this was in God’s plan (mystery) and Jesus willingly laid down His liIe. Jesus was killed
without legal grounds. Jesus lived the liIe that Adam Iailed to live. Jesus was totally obedient to
the Father in every way and without sin! ThereIore: Acts 2:24. “Whom God hath raised up.
having loosed the pains oI death: because it was not possible that he should be holden oI it.” –
Death hath no more dominion over Him (Rom 6:9). Jesus paid the price oI our past sin
(Romans 3:25) and gives us the strength (Philippians 4:13) and ability (John 16:7) to follow
Him and reconciles us to the Father (Romans 5:10). 1 Corinthians 15:25-26. “For he must
reign. till he hath put all enemies under his Ieet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is
death.” To destroy death. sin must be destroyed. 1 John 3:8. “He that committeth sin is oI the
devil; Ior the devil sinneth Irom the beginning. For this purpose the Son oI God was
maniIested. that he might destroy the works of the devil.” Jesus saves us Irom our sins (Mat
1:21). We deIeat sin in our lives by abiding in Him (John Chapter 15). Just as Christ was raised.
we shall be resurrected likewise (Romans 6:5. also 1 Cor 15:21). Death will be swallowed up in
victory - O death. where is thy sting? O grave. where is thy victory? (1 Cor 15:54-55)
John 8:54. “Jesus answered. II I honour myselI. my honour is nothing: it is my Father that
honoureth me; oI whom ye say. that he is your God:”
The Father will Honour: Christ’s selIless liIe (humble/meek/merciIul/loving) and
yielding to the Father’s will brings about great honour Irom the Father.
1 Timothy 6:15-16. “Which in his times he shall shew. who is the blessed and only Potentate. the
King of kings. and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality. dwelling in the light which no
man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen. nor can see: to whom be honour and power
everlasting. Amen.”
John 3:35. “The Father loveth the Son. and hath given all things into his hand.”
Luke 10:22. “All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son
is. but the Father; and who the Father is. but the Son. and he to whom the Son will reveal him.”
Potentate - A person who possesses great power or sway; Highest King! Supreme.
Well done, thou good and faithful
Philippians 2:9-11. “WhereIore God also hath highly exalted him. and given him a name
which is above every name: That at the name oI Jesus every knee should bow. oI things in
heaven. and things in earth. and things under the earth; And that every tongue should conIess
that Jesus Christ is Lord. to the glory oI God the Father.”
Humble is
He is worthy
This means you serve Him voluntarily out oI love. 2 Corinthians 5:17. “ThereIore iI any man be
in Christ. he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold. all things are become new.”
This is known as being “born again” (John 3:3). This is iust THE START oI Iollowing Jesus.
Proceed Iorward – to become stagnant or not move Iorward is a deIinite sign oI a rebellious heart
that is not yielding selI-will to the things God would do in your liIe (Hebrews 10:38).
You must build your liIe on a sure (Iirm) Ioundation – Luke 6:47-48. “Whosoever cometh to me.
and heareth my sayings. and doeth them. I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man
which built an house. and digged deep. and laid the Ioundation on a rock: and when the Ilood
arose. the stream beat vehemently upon that house. and could not shake it: Ior it was Iounded
upon a rock.” Notice in the verse that there must be more than iust an acknowledging oI the truth
but an application oI it to your liIe. The Ioundation is Christ and he must be the meaning oI your
liIe. The building is not a structure or the accumulation oI wealth or possessions. but is the
essence oI who you are. The Ilood which beat vehemently is the tribulations you will Iace. When
you “Iollow” Christ you will be able to endure the tribulations no matter how severe – this is His
The foundation must be obedience to God’s
righteousness). This is repenting – turning your back on your selI-will and sinIul existence and
putting your trust upon Jesus as your Lord. God HimselI changes you and writes His laws in your
heart (Hebrews 8:10). Repent – seek the Lord while He
may be found
Isaiah 55:6-7
The Bible says. Matthew 6:33. “But seek ye first the kingdom oI
God. and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Whatever your
situation in liIe. start seeking God - Right NOW! (your new #1 priority) through His Son Jesus
Christ. Jesus said it like this: Mark 12:30. “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy
heart. and with all thy soul. and with all thy mind. and with all thy strength: this is the Iirst
commandment.” Read/study God’s Word and listen to what the Holy Spirit says to you (not
man). then obey. As you yield to God. your liIe will begin to change. Philippians 2:13. “For it is
God which worketh in you both to will and to do oI his good pleasure.” Your desire toward God
and liIe should be: Matthew 6:10. “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth (and in my
life). as it is in heaven.” Consider this: John 1:12-13. “But as many as received him. to them gave
he power to become the sons of God. even to them that believe on his name: Which were born.
not oI blood. nor oI the will oI the Ilesh. nor of the will of man. but of God.” You must see your
own inadequacies and inabilities and realize your Iailures (poor in spirit). hate the sin in your
liIe and its power over you (mourn). you must humble yourselI beIore God (meek). and you
must seek to know God and serve Him and allow Him to change you (hunger and thirst after
How Do I Follow?
John 12:26. “II any man serve me. let him follow me; and where I
am. there shall also my servant be: iI any man serve me. him will my Father honour.”
Christ’s Disciples:
promise. II you love Jesus Irom the heart you’ll Iollow your Shepard as a lamb. II not. something
else (guilt. Iear) may be driving you to Iollow as a goat – that would miss the mark!
John 4:23-24. “But the hour cometh. and now
is. when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: Ior the Father
seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in
spirit and in truth.” 1) What is in Spirit? John 14:26. “But the ComIorter. which is the Holy
Ghost. whom the Father will send in my name. he shall teach you all things. and bring all things
to your remembrance. whatsoever I have said unto you.” AND Romans 8:14. “For as many as
are led by the Spirit oI God. they are the sons oI God.” 2) What is in Truth? John 14:6. “Jesus
saith unto him. I am the way. the truth. and the liIe: no man cometh unto the Father. but by me.”
Recall that Jesus is The Very Word (John 1:1-4) – John 17:17. “SanctiIy them (set apart)
through thy truth: thy word is truth.” ThereIore: We must read God’s Word and be taught
and led of His Spirit. We must apply the things we learn to our lives and live them daily. This
requires a daily dying to our will and many changes in our lives. As we live this Word we begin
to grow and mature. As we grow and mature and are IaithIul. God will open our eyes to more
revelation oI His Word and give us greater tasks to perIorm in His kingdom. We seek Jesus

Mystery of the kingdom
Blind Bartimaeus received sight
And Iollowed in the way – Mk 10:52
Matthew 4:18-22. “And Jesus. walking by the sea oI Galilee. saw two
brethren. Simon called Peter. and Andrew his brother. casting a net into
the sea: Ior they were Iishers. And he saith unto them. Follow me. and I will make you Iishers
oI men. And they straightway leIt their nets. and followed him. And going on Irom thence. he
saw other two brethren. James the son oI Zebedee. and John his brother. in a ship with Zebedee
their Iather. mending their nets; and he called them. And they immediately leIt the ship and
their Iather. and followed him.” Matthew 9:9. “And as Jesus passed Iorth Irom thence. he saw a

he arose. and followed him. John 1:43. “The day Iollowing Jesus would go Iorth into Galilee.
and Iindeth Philip. and saith unto him. Follow me.” These disciples immediately Iorsook their
livelihoods (Iishing and tax collecting) and Iollowed Christ. We must be willing to leave all
things at Christ’s calling.
Seeing the Value: Matthew 13:44. “Again. the kingdom oI heaven is like unto treasure
hid in a Iield; the which when a man hath Iound. he hideth. and Ior ioy thereoI goeth and selleth
all that he hath. and buyeth that Iield.” The kingdom oI heaven is equated with hidden treasure.
When a man Iinds this treasure and realizes its worth. he is willing to part with everything he has
to obtain it. In other words everything oI value in his liIe becomes meaningless in comparison
Yes Lord!
I’m a believer but don’t want to be a
fanatic! Luke 14:27. “And whosoever doth not bear his cross. and come after me. cannot be my

“BUT.” One must be Iocused and committed to continue a work begun. Once a decision is
made there can be no looking back (drawing back) or distractions. Have you made a
commitment to God and allowed other distractions to interIere or take precedence?
Count the cost?
Matthew 8:19-20. “And a certain scribe came. and said unto him.
Master. I will Iollow thee whithersoever thou goest. And Jesus saith unto him. The Ioxes have
holes. and the birds oI the air have nests; but the Son oI man hath not where to lay his head.”
Many are expecting blessings and worldly prosperity. but Christ sought none oI these things and
Iollowers should not expect any diIIerent. Christ’s kingdom is not oI this world.
Jesus must come first!

Urgency? Luke 9:59-60. “And he said unto another. Follow me. But he said. Lord. suIIer
me Iirst to go and bury my Iather. Jesus said unto him. Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou
and preach the kingdom oI God.” This may have seemed like a reasonable request but when
Christ calls there is no time or place Ior delay. God must take precedent in our lives. LiIe is

kingdom oI God. Ior which ye also suffer:”
Mark 13:13. “And ye shall be hated oI all men Ior my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto
the end. the same shall be saved.”
Not suffering? Maybe you’re ineffective?
Suffering of Christ?
Jesus suIIered Ior you: He was reiected by his own people
(Mark 8:31. 27:22). ridiculed (Luke 13:14); deserted by his Iollowers (John 6:66); plotted against
(Luke 22:2. John 11:50); accused oI having a demon (John 8:49); blasphemed (Luke 22:65);
hunted (John7:1); Ialsely accused (Mat 26:60); spit upon. buIIeted. and smote (Mat 26:67. 27:30.
Mark 14:65); mocked (Mat 26:68. 27:29. Mark 15:29. 31); betrayed by a Iriend (Luke 22:48. Mat
26:25); denied by his closest Iriends (Mat 26:74. Mark 14:50. 71); scourged (Mat27:26. John
19:1); stripped (Mat 27:28. John 19:23-24); nailed to a cross and cruciIied (Mark 15:25. John
19:18); and his side was pierced (John 19:34). The religious gave Him trouble Irom day one!
Suffering for Christ? What about the Iollowers oI Christ? 1 Peter 2:21. “For even
hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us. leaving us an example. that ye
should follow his steps:” To Iollow in ones steps is getting very speciIic and should be heeded.

A seed must die to produce fruit
An Christ requested that we take up our cross and Iollow Him (denying
ourselves) Iour times in the New Testament (Mat 16:24. Mark 8:34. 10:21. and Luke 9:23). In
the book oI John. “Iollowing” was put into the context oI sheep obeying the Iamiliar Shepard.
Christ revealed what this meant six times in the New Testament as Iollows:
Losing your life for Jesus:
Matthew 10:39. “He that Iindeth his liIe shall lose it: and he that loseth his liIe Ior my sake
shall Iind it.”
Matthew 16:25. “For whosoever will save his liIe shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his liIe
Ior my sake shall Iind it.”
Mark 8:35. “For whosoever will save his liIe shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his liIe Ior
my sake and the gospel's. the same shall save it.”
Luke 9:24. “For whosoever will save his liIe shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his liIe Ior
my sake. the same shall save it.”
Luke 17:33. “Whosoever shall seek to save his liIe shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his
liIe shall preserve it.”
John 12:25. “He that loveth his liIe shall lose it; and he that hateth his liIe in this world shall
keep it unto liIe eternal.” A point is being made here!

elders. and the scribes. and came upon him. and caught him. and brought him to the council.
And set up Ialse witnesses. which said. This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words
against this holy place. and the law:” How did Stephen respond to all oI this: Acts 6:15. “And all
that sat in the council. looking stedIastly on him. saw his Iace as it had been the Iace oI an
angel.” Stephen then proceeds to preach through the wisdom oI the Holy Ghost and brings great
conviction upon his accusers. Acts 7:54. “When they heard these things. they were cut to the
heart. and they gnashed on him with their teeth.” Do you see how Stephen is Iollowing in the
path oI Jesus? Is the Lord pleased? Acts 7:55-56. “But he. being Iull oI the Holy Ghost. looked
up stedIastly into heaven. and saw the glory oI God. and Jesus standing on the right hand oI
God. And said. Behold. I see the heavens opened. and the Son oI man standing on the right hand
oI God.” These religious Iolks did not receive this at all: Acts 7:57. 59. “Then they cried out
with a loud voice. and stopped their ears. and ran upon him with one accord. And they stoned
Stephen. calling upon God. and saying. Lord Jesus. receive my spirit.” How did Stephen react?

(Acts, Chapters 6-7): There arose some

Acts 6:2. “Then the twelve called the multitude oI the disciples unto them. and said. It is not

Ior the task oI “serving tables.” Stephen who is described as Iull oI Iaith and oI the Holy Ghost
was appointed to this duty. Now this is not a high proIile position that most would desire and
requires a humbling of oneself. Recall Jesus said: Matthew 23:11. “But he that is greatest

“And Stephen. Iull oI Iaith and power. did great wonders and miracles among the people.” There
soon arose certain oI the synagogue (the religious) that disputed with Stephen. Acts 6:10. “And
they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.” Recall what Jesus had

speak: Ior it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.” Such was the case with
Stephen. Acts 6:11-13. “Then they suborned men. which said. We have heard him speak

natural part oI every disciple’s walk (who boldly proIesses Christ). 2 Timothy 3:12. “Yea. and

which seemingly deIied logic. The church triumphed over Rome’s eIIorts to stop it. resulting in
the Emperor Constantine proposing a deal to church leaders who were eager to end the
persecutions. During this same time period many Ialse leaders were arising within the church.
Men who sought power. inIluence and control. They began laying the widespread Ioundation oI
what Jesus termed “Nicolaitans” (Rev 2:15) which means to Lord over the people. They set-up
seats oI authority over the people contrary to Christ’s command that to be great in the kingdom
oI heaven. you must be servant to all (and not to establish titles or positions oI supremacy). This
became as the Levitical priesthood that Jesus had abolished on the cross (Mark 15:38). Today we
know this system as the clergy-laity. The truth is that all disciples have direct access to God
through Christ (Eph 2:18) and are to be led oI the Spirit and instructed in God’s Word (2 Tim
3:16). Under Constantine there was a combining oI church and state (Mystery Babylon) and the
persecution oI the visible church ended. This soon plunged the true church into the Dark Ages
whereby the resulting Roman Catholic and the Orthodox Church Systems became the persecutors
oI all those who did not yield to their absolute rule. It’s amazing. but the worst and probably
longest sustained persecutions oI true believers were actually carried out by those who claimed to

The religious tried kill Peter prematurely (after just having killed James). but he was

raising the dead (Acts 9:37-41). suIIered persecution and tribulation. and Iollowed the path oI the

the church was Iirst established (book oI Acts). it came under heavy persecution Irom the

Most oI us were taught in school how this country was Iounded by people escaping religious
persecution in Europe. Throughout the history oI the church. Christ has always had a remnant
that would carry the torch oI the testimony. Inevitably these groups would eventually tire oI the
persecution and seek relieI. In relieI they Iound complacency and what was once alive would
eventually die (Revelation 2:4. 3:1-2). Fortunately there have always been others who would
step-up and carry this precious testimony. What does happen when believers seek relieI
Irom governments/religious authorities Irom persecution? Fleshly comIort and security are
gained but what has been lost? What has been compromised? Perhaps an examination oI the
United States oI America might provide an answer. Throughout the history oI this nation. the
church and government have had an arrangement. The church has lived in security. protected by
law. and has even enioyed special tax status. Churches have multiplied across the land and are
literally located on every block. The new trend is super mega-churches. There is a type oI
Christian culture Ilourishing with television. magazines. schools. entertainment. sports. etc. This
country has exported denominations (missionaries) across the globe. So what is the problem?
What has been lost – it seems so wonderIul? The problem is that the United States oI America is
the most decadent (selI-indulgent. depraved. degenerate). morally corrupt nation on the Iace oI
the earth. Does this upset you? Examine the Iacts. not your emotions. The U.S. aborts its babies
(murder oI innocents) by the millions; gloriIies every sin imaginable through its television
programming and movie industry; promotes sex. homosexuality & perversion and creates &
distributes the world’s pornography; is consumed with a love oI violence. alcohol. and drug use;
enslaves its citizens through a system oI banking and credit (Federal Reserve) combined with
enticements oI covetousness and greed; promotes gambling; rebellious music styles which lower
inhibitions; uses the maiority oI the world’s resources and consumes its products (thereIore:
what America wants the world produces and also buys); The greed and selI-indulgence are
unrivaled in world history; and worse – it exports immoral culture around the world. What all
this is saying is that the American church is totally ineffective (even Irom a worldly perspective.
given its size. resources. inIluence. etc.). The country that sends out so many missionaries is in
desperate need oI missionaries. The most popular toys. children’s books and movies in the U.S.
all concern witchcraIt and the occult. Video games (played by most youth) are saturated with
themes oI graphic violence. sex and the occult. Many Christian Iamilies iustiIy participation in
these things by saying its iust Iun make-believe. In order Ior the organized churches to maintain
popularity and draw crowds. the message oI Christ becomes weaker and less oIIensive to such a
point that now God has iust become an unconditional “Love God” with no expectations. The
churches are worldly and very representative oI the culture. Americans like things quick and
convenient so getting saved has been reduced down to a one line repeated prayer Iormula. Most
are blinded having itching ears and will not endure sound doctrine but are satisIied with Iables (2
Tim 4:3-4). America is the modern seat oI Mystery Babylon and the book oI Revelation addresses
its coming Iate. II you cannot discern that there is something dreadIully wrong in much oI
America’s denominational churches. then you need only to open your Bible and start reading it.
Where is the church that Jesus described? It’s in Iollowing Him and not man. We are now at a
point in God’s timetable (look at the signs in Matthew 24. Daniel. Revelation) when the world and
the church is headed into the Great Tribulation. Much oI the U.S. Church propagates Iables oI
pre-tribulation raptures (those less worthy than themselves as being “LeIt Behind” to Iace
tribulation) - meanwhile the Churches in China. Sudan. Indonesia. etc. suIIer heavy persecution
now Ior standing up Ior Christ. The people say: Isaiah 30:10. “Which say to the seers. See not; and

We must be careIul not to become simply “religious” and lose the very liIe
that we have in God. The religious put great emphasis on organizations and
memberships. ceremonies. doctrines (creeds. belieI statements. etc.) and traditions oI man.
Everything seems to center around a Iacility/complex (or personality) and is an outward show Ior
appearance sake. Members tend to look to leadership Ior most answers. Peer pressure and guilt
seem to keep things running per the status quo. Whenever I talk to someone concerning
relationship with Christ. and the Holy Spirit begins to convict their heart. almost inevitably. the
person will say. “I go to church” or “I need to start going to church.” This religious system that
man has built has taken the place oI what should be a real and very personal relationship with
Jesus Christ. It’s a very poor substitute! When one is alive in Christ they seek to know Him by
Iollowing daily. they read His Word and are taught by His Holy Spirit. They become doers oI the
word Irom the heart not compulsion. Questions or needs are brought directly to the Lord in prayer
on bended needs in a quiet solitary place or searched out in His Word. Simply reading and
understanding the Word is not enough. it’s the Spirit that makes alive! Let’s look at the Jewish
religious system (Scribes. Pharisees. and Sadducees) existing at the time oI Christ. They studied
God’s Word constantly and were expert at it. They had an impressive Temple and a system oI
synagogues to worship in. They appeared very religious and good on the outside (Mat 23:27-28).
They said long public prayers (Mark 12:40); gave large oIIerings (Mark 12:41); Iasted (Mat 6:16);
wore priestly clothing and had Iancy titles (Mat 23:5. 7); and they evangelized (Mat 23:15); Does
this sound like church? Jesus said. Matthew 5:20. “For I say unto you. that except your
righteousness shall exceed the righteousness oI the scribes and Pharisees. ye shall in no case enter
into the kingdom oI heaven.” They looked great on the outside but their hearts were basically
wicked and unchanged (unconverted). They had religion. not relationship. They had laws with no
We must honestly ask ourselves. are we guilty oI similar things? For example. do we devotedly
attend religious services on a certain day oI the week to worship Christ. yet spend the other days
watching (enioying) television programming that gloriIies the very sins that nailed Jesus Christ to
the cross (pleasure in unrighteousness - 2 Thessalonians 2:12)? Do we view Christ’s Iorgiveness
as precious or do we use it as iustiIication to continue in sin (Rom 6:15. Gal 2:17) – the very thing
God hates! We are mocking God to ask Ior salvation while cherishing and living in sin. Has this
religion aIIected our lives in a positive way? Do we live Christ’s Words daily (Luke 9:23)? Do we

to us? See thou to that. And he cast down the pieces oI silver in the temple. and departed. and
went and hanged himselI. And the chieI priests took the silver pieces. and said. It is not lawful Ior
to put them into the treasury. because it is the price of blood.” Here again. the religious are
concerned about religious procedures – unconcerned about killing an innocent man. Do you see
the condition oI their hearts?

love or compassion. The true church will have Christ as the Head (Eph 5:23) and one body with
many members (1 Cor 12:12) that support each other through various giItings/Iunctions (1 Cor
12) and oIIer up spiritual sacriIices. acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 2:5).
John 18:28. “Then led they Jesus Irom Caiaphas unto the hall oI iudgment: and it was early; and
they themselves went not into the iudgment hall. lest they should be defiled; but that they might
eat the passover.”
Something is dreadIully wrong here: The religious Jews had so missed God that they were in the
very process oI killing God’s own Son. yet they were still concerned about their religious
observance oI the Passover (which was symbolic oI Jesus). What good did their religion do them?
Had it positively aIIected their hearts in any way? Even iI Jesus was not God’s Son. they would be
knowingly violating commandments concerning Ialse witness and murder against an innocent
victim. This is how religion clouds the mind (John 4:23-24) and blinds the eyes (John 9:39).
Matthew 27:3-6. “Then Judas. which had betrayed him. when he saw that he was condemned.
repented himselI. and brought again the thirty pieces oI silver to the chieI priests and elders.

The Bride is Christ’s church that he is coming Ior. Those members will wear white which is

gains victory over the beast and harlot in a paradoxical way. The Bride lays down her liIe – iust as
Jesus did on the cross. The Bride says. “Thy will be done” to God in total obedience. The Bride
Iorsakes the world (and its mark) and chooses submission to God – reversal oI the Garden oI Eden.
The harlot is man’s religious institutions which prostituted with worldly governments and

deception). This is openly thriving today although most eyes are blinded to it! Let’s look at how
the harlot religious system is arrayed:

claim it. She Iornicates with the world. The harlot is great whereas the bride is holy. Babylon
may be interested in evangelism. religious ceremony/buildings and social work – she seeks
greatness and worldly honour. But she has no interest in holiness. What men esteem highly is
an abomination to God (Luke 16:15) – possessions. wealth. education. societal position. big
cathedrals. programs. inIluence. traditions. musical talent. selI-righteousness. (Mark 12:38-40.
Luke 18:11. Matthew 6:1-2. 5-7. 16-18). Religion is man-centered
Babylon’s immorality is seen in the Iact that she claims to represent Christ and yet lives by the
principles oI the world and seeks to be great in the world. That is how her cup becomes Iull oI
abominations. Babylon has persecuted and slain those who truly seek to serve and obey God
(through the centuries). It has literally killed or killed by the tongue and its writings.
Babylon is the broad path whereas the true church (bride) is the narrow. You must understand
that Babylon will claim to represent Christ and will maniIest some outward goodwill. The
diIIerence is in Iollowing God’s Word and not a Iorm oI it.

The beast is Given
God allows it! God is in control – He has a purpose in all this.
Revelation 13:1.4-5. “And I stood upon the sand oI the sea. and saw a beast rise up out oI the sea.

there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given
unto him to continue Iorty and two months.”
Revelation 13:7. “And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome
them: and power was given him over all kindreds. and tongues. and nations.”
God allows the beast to overcome the saints – to
kill them!

Luke 21:19. “In your patience possess ye your souls.”
Revelation 13:10. “He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the

You must have in God and much . God is building a Iinal case against the
Devil. the Iallen angels and the world’s wickedness. Those that lead the saints into imprisonment
will be put into captivity. Those that kill the saints will be killed. God will re-pay in His timing!

Revelation 12:12. “…Woe to the inhabiters oI the earth and oI the sea! Ior the devil is come down

Thessalonians 2:6-8) Ior a short period oI time allowing the Devil to control the world. During this

oI the Great Tribulation is Ior dealing with the rebellious Bride who continues to sin and chase the

Christendom in the Western World has been without persecution and hardship Ior so long that
this is considered by them to be the Christian norm. This however is Iar Irom what the scriptures
say and actually is the sign oI an ineIIective church. To many who “proIess Christ.” the thought
oI dying Ior Christ is so distressIul & distasteIul and causes so much anxiety. that they cling to
totally un-scriptural Iables oI pre-tribulation escapes (raptures) which is tantamount to
dereliction oI duty. They see those who are less worthy than themselves as “LeIt Behind” to take
up Christ’s banner and persevere & endure in the church’s greatest hour during the coming

can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him. which aIter he hath killed hath

made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in Iine linen. clean and
white: Ior the Iine linen is the righteousness oI saints.” The bride has been puriIied through the
Iires oI tribulation. However these same religious Iolks will have patriotic services in their
churches to greatly honour those who Iight Ior their country’s military Iorces. Somehow dying
Ior one’s country is deemed a noble worthy deed. even though they are killing men - those very
enemies that Jesus said we are to love (Matthew 5:43-45)! They’ll die Ior a King. but not the
King oI Kings! Revelation 15:2. “And I saw as it were a sea oI glass mingled with Iire: and them
(Who were “Left Behind”) that had gotten the victory over the beast. and over his image. and
over his mark. and over the number oI his name. stand on the sea oI glass. having the harps oI
God. Revelation 12:11. “And they overcame him (Satan) by the blood of the Lamb, and by the
word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.” Which do you suppose
is more noble: dying with a gun in your hand and three or Iour you killed laying about –OR-
silently and non-resistantly going as a lamb to the slaughter Ior Christ’s namesake – putting all

This generation is being called upon to stand.

Overcomers will conquer the sin in their lives (through Jesus) and shall be clothed in white

Those that proIess Christ will be tested (trial) in a most
meaningIul way - Choose light or darkness. A choice Ior God will bring a separation Irom the
darkness and will require suIIering on your part (and death Ior many).
Revelation 15:2. “And I saw as it were a sea oI glass mingled with Iire: and them that had gotten

The Bride is Victorious:
They obeyed God even
Revelation 19:7-8. “Let us be glad and reioice. and give honour to him: Ior the marriage oI the

By the end oI tribulation the church has made herselI ready – puriIied Irom the things oI the
world - loyal and dedicated to God alone (through Christ Jesus). Persecution and tribulation will
separate those who are Ialse and will strengthen and mature the remnant that are true. Recall.
the Lord had to exile a remnant oI Judah to Babylon to get their attention due to their idolatry.
God will not violate your Iree-will; your choice will determine your eternal destination. God in
His mercy will arrange circumstances (persecution/tribulation) to separate you Irom the sin and
worldliness that you are comIortable in – in other words God will give you one last chance prior
to Christ’s return to choose to Iollow Him – however it will require much oI you!

Are you a Pilgrim iust passing through. Iollowing the path oI Jesus?
There’s good news Ior you my Iriend. the path oI Christ did not end at the cross. but continued
to liIe everlasting…
Weary pilgrims will Iind rest and purpose: John 14:2. “In my Father's house are many
mansions: iI it were not so. I would have told you. I go to prepare a place Ior you.”
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he
leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths oI
righteousness Ior his name's sake. Yea. though I walk through the valley oI the shadow oI death.
I will Iear no evil: Ior thou art with me; thy rod and thy staII they comIort me. Thou preparest a

dwell in the house oI the LORD Ior ever. (Psalms 23)” The Lord is still leading (Ior He is true to

Which would you preIer (as a believer) – Giving your physical liIe during the tribulation Ior

When Christ returns!
We are to walk in Christ’s Iootsteps and conIorm to His image:
Serve Jesus. the Lord and Master (priority in liIe) and then each other with Love.
Deny SELF (die to) and end all selIish rebellion against God and seek His will alone.
Study God’s Word and apply it (walk in it. do it) daily. Grow in knowledge & wisdom.
Pray to God always. oIten seeking a quiet place.
Be Iilled. taught and led oI the Holy Spirit. Serve God Irom the heart.
Forsake all worldliness. Be ye separate (2 Cor 6:17).
Be giving and Iorgive others their trespasses.
SuIIer reiection. persecution & tribulation Ior Christ’s sake. Pray Ior your enemies.
Obey Jesus and keep His commandments. Stop sinning -there is Iorgiveness but not license.
Love not your liIe unto death. Do not Iear man.
A living faith!
Boldly conIess Christ beIore men and be a light Ior all to see. Share the Gospel!
Abide in Christ – endure!
Examine your heart oIten – Ask God to do the same – make corrections.
