TREK: Stakmo to Eego In Leh the recommended acclimatization schedule is minimum 3 day full rest, and then we should

start for a easy/moderate level trek (for difficult level the duration is increased). But in our case due to paucity of time you have only one day of acclimatization at Leh (11500 ft) and from the next day our trek will start. So accordingly this route has been selected due to following reasons: • The route is easy and the altitude level is not too high • Mountain sickness due to high altitude and thin air can happen to anybody, irrespective of age, sex or physical condition. • My experience with previous IIM students says that in the group of aprox 30 students its sure, for 2-3 students even this trek will be quite difficult. So therefore in case of some emergent situation we can get back to a nearby city where help can be found. • Though the previous trek was moderate in level, but literally for 4 students it became somewhat very difficult and they were blaming me to choose such a route (but of course after completion of the trek they had a great sense of accomplishment and were thanking me). So this time professor has asked for a route which is not like the previous route. 28.08.20 13 Arrival Leh (11500ft ) Pick up from airport via taxi, complete rest and stay overnight. Lunch and dinner will be served. Today we will also fulfil the formalities to obtain official permit for trekking and visit to pangong lake (this lake is shared between us and China.... shown in 3 idiot movie). Though I have booked for accommodation at a NGO complex (below shanti stupa in Leh, where the students have also stayed during last to last visit). I am still searching for a better accommodation in outskirt of Leh town and within a week it will be finalised before you arrive. Being the second day of your arrival, after breakfast we will pack our belongings and move to Stakmo village via bus. OR ELSE, enroute we will visit Thiksey monastery and leave the bus. After visiting the monastery we will start our trek to Stakmo phu. It’s a 2 hour gradual ascent along the road only (it will help us tune and acclimatise also). In Stakmo we will stay overnight at camping site in tent. Final decision will be taken after the students arrives This morning we set off by foot from the village of Stakmo heading south east through the village where we climb over the hill line in the direction of Arzu, heading north east. The area is very barren in summer between the Stakmo village and the summer grazing pastures of Arzu. The walk to Arzu brings us into a small valley with local shrines and summer dwellings; we will have a pack lunch en route. The area is only inhabited for a few months in the summer. The valley below Arzu opens out into a boulderstrewn moonscape caused by a combination of glacial and high-level water flows. This evening we will camp in the lower reaches of Arzo where we can get the best views of the valley below. Our cook will prepare dinner this evening, while we relax and reflect on the day with professors insight.
