A Message From The Principal


Dear Parents, HOORAY! Our 2012 API is 878 up 28 points from last year! Our kids are not only beautiful, but very smart too! Congratulations to our 201213 School Site Council/Governance members: Robin Aaron Chairperson; Susan Dicks Teacher; Ramona Escamilla Classified; Vanessa Gomez Teacher; Jennifer Korban Secretary; Doug Lee Vice Chairperson; Greg Liebowitz Teacher; Janet Maza - Parent; Jean Pennicooke Principal; Ryan Thompson Parent and Robert Warsaw Parliamentarian. Our six (6) meeting dates are: 10/24, 12/12, 2/6, 3/20, 4/3 and 5/1. Meetings are open to the public. Congratulations to our 2012-13 ELAC (English Language Advisory Committee) members: Colette Boston Teacher/Bilingual Coordinator; Laura Cortez President; Ana Garcia Vice President; Heidy Gonzalez Parent; Vidalina Martinez Secretary; Jean Pennicooke Principal; and Patricia Soza Classified. Meeting dates TBA. Kudos to Anna Marie Caso and Tom Nelson for a job well done in once again organizing a wonderful Retro Prom! The costumes were spectacular, the music was great, and the evening festive and fun! We welcomed Kite Master Mikio Toki last week to Kentwood. He graciously and patiently taught our 5th graders the fine art of kitemaking. Our students were able to learn how to design, assemble, and fly their own kites. Propositions 30 & 38: There will be an informational meeting this Wednesday, October 24th at 2:45 p.m. in the Auditorium, followed by our SSC/Governance meeting.

Fall Shake 2012: Last Thursday, Oct. 18th, Kentwood participated in a required annual emergency earthquake drill. This is also a good time for all families to practice their drop, and hold drills at home and to update their emergency supplies. Parents, please remember to provide a small home-made emergency kit for your child to be kept at school. The information was in the parent folder provided at the beginning of the school. Please contact us if you have misplaced your list.

Pledge Drive Update
The pledge drive is in full swing.The funds donated to our pledge drive help support many of the current programs at Kentwood. Currently, our school family participation is at 27%, over $16,000. If you have lost any personal items, you can look in the Kentwood Lost and Found located in the hallway between Room 5 and the Girls Restroom. All items will be donated to charity at the end of the school year.
