INTRODUCTION: Helen Humphreys once wrote, Maybe reading was just a way to make her

feel less alone, to keep her company. When you read something you are stopped, the moment is stayed, and you can sometimes be there more fully than you can in your real life.
For some people, reading could be a hobby, a passion, or an escape to reality for a while just like what is stated on the quote above. Having a book inside your bag is like having a friend that will accompany when you are bored. Books can make you feel certain emotions just by reading it comprehensively. Different books can be classified into different genres or categories. It could be a Classical Literature, a Fiction that could also be categorized in different field such as Action, Adventure, Suspense or Mystery, Thriller, Romance, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, Humor, Drama and more. A Non-fiction which covers the Biographies, Philosophy, Historical, Motivational, General Knowledge, Hobbies and Interests, Sports, Self-Help, or Music. This is the variation of topics that you can found when you read book. By the different kind of themes book offers, people able to view different kind of surrounding and other experiences. Books may also depend on the age of the reader books for children, young adult or adults. Book is something that you can depend to, you can gain information, experience new things, learn values that will help you in your day to day life. Regardless of your age, gender and affiliation, you can relate easily to the books. Many books are already accessible in electronic format, those PDF, jar files or EPUB copies that could be downloaded online, but nothing beats the satisfaction of flipping through the pages of your prized find and experiencing that classic-musty-heartwarming smell.

Chapter IX bookstore is operated by a married couple who commonly share interest in collecting books. It is the second business that they have established together. The first one is a coffee shop, unfortunately due to some unexpected events they decided to close it. The husband used to work in Makati but he got tired mainly because travelling from his home to work is a bit inconvenient. They decided to put up a business again, on year 2012, inclined with their hobby, which is reading books. They named it as Chapter IX; the word chapter which is a term that can usually found in books, used to separate part of the books and IX stands for Lucky 9; they use it because it is easy to remember. Their starting capital is 30,000 pesos, they use it to purchase the prior set of books and to build the bookshelf they are currently using. They found a good place on Circle C Mall along Congressional Avenue in Quezon City and rent it to start of the business. It is ideal because of four reasons, 1.) It is near where they currently residing, no hassle in travelling, 2.) The rental fee is affordable compare to other place, easy to allocate funds 3.) It is accessible to the public; just one jeepney ride from MRT north Ave. station, LRT Roosevelt station and SM North EDSA, and 4.) There is a school nearby (Colegio De San Lorenzo). They offer different kind of books, it may be a brand new or a second hand books but in good quality. A huge collection of paperback and hardbound covered books. They pursue this kind of passion into something that they will gain benefit or gain profit and they succeeded. Despite of the presence of competitors, which is a branch of National Bookstore, just across the Circle C Mall, Chapter IX bookstore still manage to operate quite well and run smooth as days passed by.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

As researchers, we notice different weak point of Chapter IX Bookstore. Their place is quite small compare to other bookstore around the Metro Manila. It is just like a rectangular box that contains too many books. The insufficiency of space results to unorganized surrounding of the business and improper arrangement of books. The said bookstore only categorizes books into three large categories; the classic, the fiction and the nonfiction, which could be confusing at times. In addition, some books are just placed in the floor rather than in a bookshelf.

III. ROOT CAUSES Insufficient space of the store The store is just like a small rectangular box (It measures 8 sq. meters) and not spacious enough to accommodate the large number of books currently on the bookstores inventory. The books is way too crowded which makes the appearance unorganized when viewed by the customers. Also, the space intended for the customer can only be occupied by a single person at a time, which makes browsing of the books by the customers difficult. Weak marketing strategy Bookstore should provide comfortability to its customer; it is one of the effective marketing strategies being used. Having an insufficient business space, Chapter IX Bookstore cannot compromise to this. In addition, the location of the bookstore is not that exposed which makes the business in need for an effective marketing strategy. In the opening of the bazaar mall (Circle C), there is a tarpaulin placed in the upper portion which informs the customer of the existence of the bookstore (Refer to Appendix 4. Page 17). However, this strategy is not that effective enough to attract more potential customer.

VIII. IMPROVEMENT PLAN EXPANSION OF THE BUSINESS SPACE: There is a vacant space beside the store that is available for lease (Refer to
Appendix 1. Page 16). Renting it would make room for more books for the business

operation (Refer to Appendix 2.Page 16). This may help the business to organize the store and can offer satisfaction to its customer because of the comfortable surroundings. They can also put a small sofa set on the side of the bookstore especially intended for the customer, it is where the customer could rest and browse books that they want to purchase. MARKETING STRATEGY: For the regular customers The business should maintain those customers who patronize their business by creating a giveaway. This contest will be participating by those customers who purchase books amounted above P500. Their name and number will be written in a piece of paper and will be raffle after the specified date. In trend books or a great book could be used as a price to encourage the customer to join. To attract new customers For every purchase of a book, the customer will be entitled with a given discount provided that they can present the stab attached to the flyers (Refer to Appendix 3. Page 17). In addition, a tarpaulin should be placed outside the mall entrance to attract new customers (Refer to Appendix 5 & 6. Page 18).

RECOMMENDATION

Since Chapter IX bookstore offers different kind of books that may help the potential buyer to satisfy their wants. Might as well make this business a very reliable when it comes in providing variation of different books. Chapter IX bookstore should order from their supplier a set of books that are in trend or never go out of trend. In much effective way of satisfying customer needs, the bookstore should accept orders from their customer or a wish list of books that they can provide after a specific number of days. This will help them to gain customers trust towards their business. As researchers, we also recommend that the business should enlarge the business space to accommodate a large number of books or displaying a greater number of books in the inventory. This could be possible by acquiring the stall next to their current location and adding new furniture to make the bookstore appealable to customers. This space could also help them in categorizing the books to its genre, making it easier to the customer to find the books that they want. We also recommend that they must establish a new marketing strategy that will give them a better standing when it comes to the selling of their products. It could give them the assurance of gaining new potential customer to increase their profit. But one of the most important things that need to be maintained is their courtesy or the way how they treat their customer. They should make their customer feel like they are friends or at least comfortable feeling because they share the same interest which is reading books. This way, customers will come back to their store every now and then to purchase.

CONCLUSION

A book is never been out of trend. Regardless of the time, books can be a necessity to those readers who makes it as a passion. Some of the books, it may be an old book or a new book, a long published book or a newly published book, a hard bound or a paperback, you can sell it to those who are interested. The older the book, the more appealing it is. Chapter IX bookstore could last long in this kind of business provided that they improve the marketing strategy of their store, it could be using the help of the World Wide Web or other different techniques such as promoting the bookstore by having a giveaway or a contest. This kind of strategy easily attracts customers resulting to an increasing numbers of customers who patronize their business. They could also use the marketing strategy of making the customer comfortable; this is possible by extending the space. This expansion can also give progress to the operation of the business. It can make the customer feel comfortable while browsing the books that are currently available. This strategy will make the business so accommodating to its customers. In order to stay in business, they should give focus to the customers opinion towards their business. They should satisfy their customer from their courtesy, books they offer quality of their books, comfort ability of their store, and the way of communicating. Considering this factor, Chapter IX will progress to total improvement.
