Medford City Travel Basketball

The Medford Basketball Travel program is in its seventh year. Over the past six years we have helped boys and girls in grades 5th thru 8th develop their basketball skills in a competitive environment. This year the teams will play in the Metro West League in the Middlesex Conference against surrounding cities and towns. This year our goal is to have several boys and girls teams that will be coached by very experienced coaches. We also have the full support and dedication of the Medford High School Boys and Girls Basketball coaches. The travel season games start in December 2013 and run until March of 2014. The practices are usually 1 to 2 nights during the week and games on Saturday’s and Sunday’s. All home games are played at Medford High School. Each team will play approximately 20 games including playoffs.

asked Q & A

  

What is Medford Travel Basketball? Medford Travel Basketball is a city wide program for boys and girls grades 5-8. Teams are made up of 12-15 selected players per team. Who do the teams play? The teams play in the Metro West League which consists of approximately 15 surrounding cities and towns. Are the games competitive? Yes. The teams play against the top players from the other cities and towns. What are the age/grade requirements? We have boys and girls teams from grades 5, 6, 7, and 8. How are players selected? Players are selected through a try out. Coaches select players based on skill level, attitude, and commitment. For a player to be selected they must have all passing grades in school. Players that are not doing well in school will not be allowed to participate. How many games and practices do the teams have? Each team will play approximately 20 games and practice 1 to 2 times per week. When are the games played? Games are played on Saturday and Sunday. All home games are played at Medford High School on Saturdays and Sundays. Where are the practices held? The teams practice at the McGlynn School and the Andrews School. When does the league start and end? The games start the first week of December and end the second week in March. Is there transportation to the away games? No each player is responsible for their own transportation to all home and away games. The coaches are not allowed to transport players. What is the cost to play? The fee is $175.00 per player and includes all games and practices, and a year end tournament. (There is a $20 fee for a new uniform shirt. If a player has a uniform shirt from last year that is fine.) Does everyone that tries out make the team? No. The coaches can only keep 12 players per team. Will the travel program interfere with the CYO or School teams? We try to work with all the different programs so that the players can play on multiple teams. It has worked out very well in the past. However we would like all our travel players to commit to our program first and make as many games and practices as possible. How will we know if our child is selected a team? We will post all team rosters on our web site. medfordbasketball.com What if I need to contact the director or a coach? We will have all the staff contacts on the web site. Do you need any parent volunteers? Yes. We need parents to run the snack stand at home games and also to keep the score book and time clock at the games. All the money raised goes towards our year end banquet.
