Professional Experience December 2005 - Present: Director of Public Relations and Marketing Seattle Central Community College
• Direct and implement marketing and communications for Seattle Central Community College, the city’s largest community college serving about 18,000 students annually. • Design strategic communications plans to best represent the interests of the college to internal and external stakeholders. • Have increased enrollment at Seattle Central through traditional marketing to targeted audiences along with new media and social marketing techniques. • Recently concluded a successful rebranding campaign for the college, its first in 30 years. • Provide communications support for the Office of the President, which includes speechwriting, preparation of talking points and briefings. • Supervise marketing communications, publications, public information, graphic design, photography, and the college website. • Lead media relations efforts and serve as college spokesperson. Prepare news releases and respond to media inquiries; build and foster beneficial relationships with news media. • Direct all activities related to the college website. Recently completed a comprehensive redesign of the website. • Manage two departmental budgets, hire and supervise employees.

October 2004 - November 2005: Publicis Dialog, Account Supervisor, Healthcare Marketing Group
• Project manager of a new account for an international medical device company. Learned the intricacies of a new industry and by meeting or exceeding client goals, quickly built it to a $500,000 account. • Developed strategic marketing plans that increased sales volume and brand recognition. • Developed marketing materials to support strategic initiatives. Collateral included videos, educational library, newsletters, sales aids, white papers, PowerPoint presentations and brochures. • Managed internal and external relationships including freelancers, printers, vendors and clients.

October 1998 - August 2004: UAB Health System Public Relations, Manager of Media Relations
• Directed public relations activities for the UAB Health System, which includes a 900-bed

hospital, six professional schools, outpatient clinic and two affiliated hospitals. Annual budget of $800M. Served as spokesperson and primary media contact for the UAB Health System. Established and maintained contacts with local, state, national and international media. Led a six-person media relations team that placed more than 4,000 stories about UAB in 2003 and has placed 3,500 to 3,800 each year since 1998. Invented a performance metrics system for media placements and results, producing savings of $30,000 per year. Advised senior university administration on communication strategy and policy. Developed and directed implementation of media plans for UAB’s six professional schools (Medicine, Public Health, Nursing, Allied Health Professions, Dentistry and Optometry). Acted as health system representative with major donors, legislators, celebrities and other VIPs. Wrote and supervised development of fact sheets, position papers, brochures, publications and collateral material.

February 1990 - April 1994: Tulane University Medical Center, Media Specialist
Served as primary media contact for Tulane University Medical Center with responsibility for crisis communications and emergency planning. Also coordinated media relations for the medical center including video news releases and the Tulane Radio News Service. Wrote feature stories for external and internal publications of the medical center.
