1. Begin with an entry question (Would you like math less if you couldnt use your calculator?) to hook students into considering how technology assists us with mathematics. H 2. Introduce the Essential Questions and discuss the GPS standards that are to be mastered by the end of the unit. W 3. Present key terms that will be needed for the unit and provide some basic background knowledge of matrices. E

Tuesday
4. Group students into groups of four that they will work in for the duration of the unit. Begin working on the Booster Club Learning Task while teacher stops to present information to whole class as needed. Some groups will have simpler problems and more open space on their papers so that they do not feel overwhelmed by the tasks. TEO 5. Complete questions 13. E 6. Compare answers with another group. RE-2 15. Students will use the internet to find the formal definitions of the properties of real numbers and provide an example of each one for multiplication and addition. They will then asses the definitions and examples of a neighboring group. Each group will then share one of the properties with the class. EO 16. HW will be assigned that covers the material learned the prior week, as a distributed practice. E

Wednesd ay
7. Complete the remainder of the learning task. E 8. Students will be given HW problems that are similar to the questions from the task. E

Thursday
9. Students will compare their HW problems with members of their group and be allowed time to make corrections before handing the assignment in. RE-2 10. The students will then be provided a copy of the scoring rubric that will be used to grade the Booster Club Learning Task. The group will have the remainder of the class to make any adjustments to their work if they feel that they did not go into enough depth on their solutions and explanations. RE-2

Friday
11. Students will complete a journal assignment that has them evaluate their performance and their learning of the concepts presented over the whole week. They will be required to use at least two key terms in their journal entry and provide an illustration of at least one key term. RE-2O 12. The students will begin exploring how to work with matrices on the graphing calculators by going through the steps on the matrix multiplication handout. EO 21. The teacher will address any questions that came up from the writing assignment the day before. RT 22. Complete the remainder of the learning task, and make corrections against the rubric if needed. ERE-2

13. The students will complete the handout that explains how to enter matrices into the graphing calculator, add, subtract, and multiply them. E 14. Using the TI-Smart View software, students will be allowed to volunteer to model for the whole class their mastery of the graphing calculator and answer student questions. HE

17. The students will compare HW problems with their group members before turning them in. Corrections will be allowed to be made. RE-2 18. The students will begin the Walk Like A Mathematician Learning Task. Complete questions 1-4, while the teacher assists groups on an individual basis as needed. ET

19. Students will summarize in a paragraph what they have learned so far in the unit, and provide one question that addresses an area where they still need help. The teacher will address the issues at the beginning of the next class. RE-2 20. Complete questions 5 & 6 from the learning task, then the students will be assigned in class practice of how to find the inverse of a matrix. When finished, students will present the problems on the board. E
