Welcome To Season 2013/14!!

Its finally here!! After our most successful VSDCA season ever, we were all chomping at the bit to get started again in season 2013/14 and go one step further in all grades. We held our Presentation Night in April 2013, with the venue shifting to the Chifley Hotel in Eummemmering for the first time. The night was a huge success, with nearly 100 people attending, giving us one of our biggest crowds to a Presentation Night in recent history. Congratulations to all recipients of awards on the night, especially to old man Richie Saniga, who in the twilight of his career (perhaps) managed the clean sweep in the 1s, taking out the Batting, Bowling and MVP awards! Good stuff by the old timer! All winners are on our website, and the link is later on in the newsletter. The Annual General Meeting was held in late June, with the Committee being voted in again. Congratulations to Darren Goodson, who was voted in as President for another season. Darren has done an excellent job during his tenure and we look forward to progress as a cricket club under his leadership. He will be supported by Vice Presidents Gary Parsons and Henry Vettivelu. David Anning was voted in as Secretary and Treasurer once more, as he continues to perform an admirable job in running the Club. The rest of the voted in Committee, including some new faces, are revealed later in this edition. Pre-season started for the Club in July, with Eastern Indoor hosting our Club again. We had some excellent numbers, especially from the juniors, and its great to see a number of new faces, both Seniors and Juniors at the Club! We like to welcome Sean Grabert and Nick McKay, who both come with experience and talent, and both will be pushing to play 1s this season. We also welcome all our new juniors who have come across and will not only strengthen our Juniors but push hard for selection in Seniors as well. As is standard in Melbourne, it appears Week 1 of Round 1 will be washed out again, however, we start the season prepared for a big tilt at the finals across all 4 teams. Our 1st XI will be led once more by Matthew Hutchinson and supported by Shean Vanderwert and Richie Saniga. The 2nd XI will be led by Dhushan Ranasinghe, who led the inexperienced team admirably despite the setbacks. The 3rd XI will have a new captain after the retirement of stalwart and future Life Member Tom Hollis, with Tommy Humphries taking over the 3s. A big step for Tommy as he will lead a talented but inexperienced team into what will hopefully be a successful finals series. And of course, our resident 4th XI captain Paul Kirchner will take the reigns of the 4s once more, as they look to go back-to-back!

Our first function for the season is on Friday, October 4 at Sydney Pargeter Reserve. This is our official Season Launch however we have also extended the function to all our Past Players, who are welcome to attend the night. It would be fantastic to see some of the old faces, especially with the newly renovated Clubrooms and the new Honour Boards which should be unveiled on the night. We look forward to seeing you all there! Finally, as you may have noticed, The Eagle Eye has undergone a change in design. We feel this design will be more cleaner and easier to read and navigate. As usual, all feedback and comments is openly welcome. As the season gets into full swing, we will have more fun and exciting items for the newsletter.
