God's Wake-up Call

Jer 6:16 ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein,

Having been under compulsion to undertake this project for some time now I do so with some trepidation. I know my own susceptibility to error having just lost the whole of the contents of the first draft of this work through my own ineptitude. May the Lord forgive me and help me to retrieve the substance of that first effort and please God, improve the final result should He spare me to finish it. I undertake this for several reasons. Though there are many better qualified than I to write on the various subjects covered here, but I feel that I have an obligation to record the conclusions to which I have come after living as a committed believer in Jesus Christ for fifty years and for the most part of that time in some way or other as a preacher of the gospel.

God's Wake-up Call

CORRECTING MY ERRORS My worst errors have not been in the area of diligence, though all of us can think that should we “do it over again we would make a better fist of it.” The worst errors have been in doctrine. Doctrine which I was taught, led into and dare I say into which I was brainwashed, by my family at first and then by Bible College and Seminary teachers and of course, a series of preachers likewise educated by them. So as I begin once again to record and memorialise my recollections of these things I realise that the conclusions to which I have come are against a wall of denial almost universally held by the establishment, evangelical, pentecostal and charismatic alike. This wall of resistance seems impenetrable and yet there are those today who are beginning to awaken. As we get closer and closer to the time when the Lord will appear in the clouds, the enemy is getting bolder and more open, his tactics more and more bizarre as he deludes and assaults once implacable bastions of truth. Some once staunch believers/teachers, are succumbing to the guile of the Religious Satan. Christians who once would never have been moved because they had an unswerving belief in the unchangeable word of God and tested everything by it. Now Satan has brought into doubt the very word of God. Repeating a deception he has been perfecting ever since his lie recorded in Genesis 3. MY SECOND REASON Is that a verse of Scripture “jumped out at me” one day when I was meditating on 2Thessalonians 2 and thinking about the conditions which now exist just prior to the Lord's return it is this: 2Thess 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord

God's Wake-up Call

shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: It suddenly struck me that the criterion for salvation is not receiving the truth but having a love of the truth. Paul says here they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. Everybody has a little or a lot of truth, NOT EVERYBODY PUTS THE TRUTH FIRST! That is what is wrong!! Think about it a while. For many years I held on to spurious doctrine because I just did not think my grandfather, my dad, and a plethora of professors, Bible teachers and commentators, my church superiors, my peers in the ministry could all be fundamentally wrong. I DO NOW! I WAS WRONG!!! I have come to believe that spiritually, by the Holy Spirit, intellectually, by research and study, and experimentally, by seeing the result in my life. That is what this book is all about. I repent and I want to give you a short-cut to truth. I want to save you from grief but most of all I want to save you from Hell, or at least point you to the One who can only do that if you yield to Him who is the Personification of Truth. That last paragraph brings to mind the fact that I have not dealt with the very important issue of whether a believer, who has been born again and has tasted of the heavenly gift, and has been made partaker

God's Wake-up Call

of the Holy Ghost, has tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, if such a person can lose their salvation? According to Hebrews 6:4,5 the answer is a resounding YES! Not only is that supported by scripture but scripture teaches that in such a case there is no way back again to grace. Now I am aware that this is an ongoing argument between the Armenian and Calvinistic factions of Christian doctrine. If Paul had lived a little later I am convinced he would have included Calvin and Arminius in his list of denominational divisions in 1Co 1:12. He calls those kinds of divisions “carnal” or fleshly (1Co 3:4). The divisions are multiplied astronomically today. I depend on the Word of God in EVERYTHING!

Heb 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

God's Wake-up Call

6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. 7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: 8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.

I have listened to Doctors of Reformed Theology too but they are wrong when they say that Hebrews 6 applies to unbelievers who have never really been saved, but you read it again (above) GOD'S WORD on it is clear “seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.” God says they received the grace of God through Jesus' crucifixion once. This can only mean that they were once saved – but ever again, if they deliberately throw it away it there's no way back. The object of this work is not to bring despair but hope in Jesus with the fervent prayer that I shall awaken in as many as possible a genuine love of the truth. May our Father grant my prayer in Jesus' name Finally, this book is not intended to be, nor does it pretend to be an academic or a scholarly work. It is just simply what I have discovered about the Bible and what it says, over more than 60 years, since I first became aware that Jesus was a real Person and that he loved me enough to die for my sins and draw me to Himself. Fortunately for me he is patient and long suffering beyond belief or else I would not have lived to tell this story. Praise His Name! Michael Ludlow Trinham

God's Wake-up Call

Lu 24:6 He is not here, but is risen:

Chapter 1 The Empty Tomb
1Co 15:17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. Before the Lord enlightened me I wondered how in the world so much hinged on Christ's resurrection. Surely the important thing was

God's Wake-up Call

His death for our sins. Don't get me wrong, I firmly believed that Jesus rose from the dead and I understood that if He could not keep His promise to rise up on the third day (or any day for that matter,) He obviously could not raise anybody else either. That is where my reasoning fizzled out with a faint “pop!” For Jesus to rise up again from the dead at will was huge. I am not diminishing that in the slightest. But Paul laid enormous weight on it when he says, and if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. Then one day the “penny dropped.” I can't remember when it was or who prompted it but suddenly I was faced with an enigma. Now that I knew every word of God was pure in the English version I read, and that I did not have to resort to re-translation using concordances and commentaries and so on and on and on... what did this mean? What did this mean? I thought that Jesus was begotten by God when He was born into flesh and blood by the Holy Ghost who equally is God, to his fleshly mother, Mary? Then there is a disclaimer in John 3 3
3.Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God..... 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Wait a minute! Wasn't Jesus “born of the spirit when He was conceived of the Holy Ghost? I confess this idea was beyond me but my finite mind was trying to grind out infinite reasoning. The only way anyone can grasp infinite truth is to have it revealed by the One who is infinite. So I began to Google my Bible (excuse the mixed metaphor) in search of any scripture that would enlighten me

God's Wake-up Call

as to when Jesus the Son of God BECAME the Son of God by God's begetting. I checked out these verses:
Ps 2:7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ac 13:33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. Heb 1:5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? Heb 5:5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, [i.e. the Father] Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. Heb 2:10 For it became him, for whom are all things,[i.e. the Father] and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect [complete] through sufferings. 1Co 15:20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.

Pardon me? But this seems to be teaching that the same process used to bring Christ to be the Begotten Son of God is the process that adds all believers to God's begotten sonship by adoption. That is the resurrection of the body. Now back to the Bible's teaching on Jesus' begetting:

God's Wake-up Call

Ps 16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Ps 49:9 That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption. Ac 2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. [Paul enlightens us:] Ac 2:31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ , that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. Ac 13:35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

If you have not yet “connected the dots” it has to do with this clear statement:
1Co 15:50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption (rotting and dying) inherit incorruption (never rotting and dying).

Not even the flesh and blood of the Lord Jesus who first was born to a woman, could inherit the Kingdom of God which is in another dimension, in the spiritual realm. To inherit or live in that realm one must be re-born into the realm of the spirit. What Jesus told Nicodemus now starts to make sense.
John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

Nicodemus did not have the faintest idea what Jesus was talking about, and for years neither did I and I am taking a “rough punt” that many of my readers did not up until now. And this:
1Co 15:23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits;

God's Wake-up Call

afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.

Jesus was born-again as the firstfruits of many brethren when He rose from the dead. That is when Psalm 2:7 was fulfilled. The promise of God that those who believe in, trust in and rely on Jesus will also be born again relates to our sharing in His new birth. that is what the epistle to the Ephesians is all about when it says:
Eph 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

It is speaking in prospect about our inheritance in Jesus as believers. It speaks in past tense because, for God to think to do it, is the same as if it is already done. As when He says of Jesus that He was the... the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. Re 13:8 Before Jesus came into the world the whole plan of Salvation was – in God's mind – a “done deal.” So when the Bible says “Joh 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” It is speaking in prospect of what we are NOW by FAITH that will be consummated at Christ's coming in FACT. The Holy Spirit is our “earnest” or down-payment ( a receipt as good as money that you can take to God's bank and borrow against.)
Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. [i.e. at His coming]

So you see, the empty tomb is the mark of His resurrection work. Jesus said Joh 5:17, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. His work is present continuous, eternally sustaining those who trust him in the kingdom of God for eternity. (Php 4:19 )

God's Wake-up Call

It is tangible proof that Jesus is risen. It makes us rush to look in our tabernacle “safe” or “purse” to see if our down payment has arrived, i.e. the seal of the Holy Spirit. All these analogies are confusing. Wakey! wakey! The Holy Spirit uses analogies in God's word all the time. Figures of speech, Parables, etc., etc. Here's one that may clarify a little:
Mt 25:14 ¶ For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. 15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. 16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. 17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. 18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money. 19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. 20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. 21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. 23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. 26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: 27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and

God's Wake-up Call

then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. 28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. 29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. 30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

No it's not about money. It's a parable about the Holy Spirit given to the believer who is given a spiritual gift for multiplying souls to the Kingdom of God in a way or ways that before the Holy Spirit came to dwell within him he could have only “wished” for. I know it doesn't make good grammar but it does make good sense. It is about huge spiritual productivity on a scale that could only be miraculous. You see when the Holy Spirit comes to reside He brings God's Company Credit card. But it is only validated for things in line with God's will and God's Kingdom. The man that was too timid to spend God's credit lives in Matthew 25:30. and I don't like where he's going.

God's Wake-up Call

Our research doesn't tell the Devil anything he has not researched years before us and he is ready with his additions to our liveliest discoveries about God's truth.

Chapter 2 A Great Awakening. GOD SPEAKS TO ME “IN MY EAR”
That does not make me unique, I have become convinced that he talks in the ear of everyone from time to time it is just that most of us don't listen. I don't know why we don't listen I think (correct me if I am wrong..) that most of us just think we don't “rate” in God's gigantic agenda for the world, somehow we are not worthy of His notice. But that is not true and here is the Bible foundation for that:
Mt 10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

God's Wake-up Call

And again:
Mt 10:30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

Let me illustrate this if you will pardon personal stories betimes. One night I was riding my motorcycle home from work. (I worked at sign writing for a large part of my ministry life to supplement support for my family.) It was dark and I was travelling on a through road with an intersecting road to the left coming up. Because it was knock off time there was a lot of traffic oncoming waiting to turn in front of me at the intersection. They were waiting because I had right of way. All was fine until I heard or rather imagined, or imagined I heard in my right ear “STOP!!!” As I write I imagine I hear it again very, very loudly. No mistake, no doubt, no hesitation I applied the front and rear brakes on the motorcycle and slackened speed suddenly as I could without skidding.

Right then I saw in my headlight a car with an impatient driver, behind the lead car, turn suddenly out to his right crossing in front of me. I don't know if the driver saw me then but his left side passenger did. He thought he was about to be “T Boned.” His jaw popped open and he bared his tonsils to me as he swept on his way.

God's Wake-up Call

How do I know it was God that yelled at me and actually saved my life? It might just have been a freaky coincidence. Yeah right! And if that is what you think that is why you rarely, if ever, hear from God directly. That was not the first time I heard directly from God, so although over the years I haven't heard like this more than a handful of times each year. The fact that I had some past experience must have accounted to some extent for the way I jumped to obey when God shouted. I had been practising listening for God's voice and every once and a while I heard Him speak to me. That was the only time He shouted though and I have usually found Him speaking to me through His word, or when I am meditating on His word or praying. Just once in a while when I am least expecting it His voice breaks in on an unrelated train of thought with an insight into my need and speaks to me in my ear.

It was like that about ten years ago when I was engaged in my secular pursuit of sign-making, in the office, and any thought of study and Bible set aside for the time being when God broke into my thoughts and said, “You don't know anything about the texts that underlie the Bible do you?” I was startled shocked and ashamed all at the same time. Here was I, a Pastor teaching other Christians and in intense guilt, I realised that this was true! I had no right to be teaching something that I was not doubly sure of myself.

I immediately promised the Lord that I would take steps to research the issue and discover the truth about the underlying texts of the

God's Wake-up Call

Bible for myself. My prayer right then was “Please Lord help me to find the resources.” That was a turning point in my life. How I wished I had been given the challenge thirty years before, and yet, back then I was weaker and surrounded by doubters and their peers. These “scholars,” almost violently, defended the position that, the only inerrant, wholly inspired scriptures were the “originals” in Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic.

Whenever I asked, I was informed that the original texts were long gone, worn to pieces and now non-existent. We had some copies and copies of copies and bits and pieces of copies etc. in which the truth existed (probably hidden) if we could only learn the Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic languages and study the writings of the textual historians who gathered them and somehow had the ability to discern which were the most reliable manuscripts surviving today. The further I went into this, the more confused I became. Years before when I began preparation for ministry, I had decided to go to a Bible College that did not require Greek and Hebrew for graduation simply because I thought, probably correctly, that I had not the ability to learn a couple of archaic languages one of which was not even spoken in its Bible form, koine Greek. I used to joke along with those wags who were always telling of “Granny,” who said “If the King James Bible was good enough for Saint Paul it is good enough for me.” We would all laugh and leave it at that. But I would in my heart of hearts wonder if the verse in Matthew was right when it said: But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. (Matt 4:4 )

God's Wake-up Call

How could it be? How could God hold us responsible for living up to statements He made that today could not be found?....Must have been a “figure of speech.” The Bible is loaded with figures of speech, but if He literally meant it then.... I thought to myself that seems out of character with the just and fair God that I knew, though I did not know where “every word of God” was or even if it existed today. I had a Concordance and a Lexicon and that gave me a bit of confidence with my Greek and Hebrew literate buddies in ministry, as long as I did not open my mouth too much in areas with which I was not familiar. This led to my quoting a lot from Greek and Hebrew scholars. I did not know if they were right or not. I looked at the sources of their degrees and if they were from the “right evangelical schools” most of the time their quotations got the heart foundation “tick” and I got by. But I personally was not convinced and was timid when it came to formulating sermons and lectures on the basis of “thus saith the Lord.”

How could my preacher peers, whom I respected and revered slap their bibles and hold them up before the congregation and say with force and seeming conviction. “I believe this is the Holy Word of

God's Wake-up Call

God! From cover to cover! I believe every word of it!” Then tell me the “original texts” were non-existent. Though I must say, as the King James Bible fell out of popular use, during my lifetime and the so called “New” Bibles came to popularity there were fewer and fewer Bible thumpers of this sort. As I look back on it though, and I just thought of this, as I write this sentence, I clearly remember that God's challenge to me was not that I did not know the Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic, but that I did not know anything about the texts that underlie the Bible. At the time I did not see the distinction nor know what it implied. I was determined however to honour my promise to God, that if He would help me discover the truth concerning the Bible texts I would diligently research the materials He would help me discover. In the next ten years I was amazed at the amount of information that came my way. By this time the Internet was not only available but had become user friendly and I became aware of other believers who had also been challenged by God to investigate what turned out to be the greatest fraud perpetrated on the Christian Church since the Devil uttered those tragic words to Eve ”Yea, hath God said,” (Gen 3:1.) Here are some of the sources that came across my path. Rather than include a gigantic list of book and electronic media sources I have given a list of web sites that have those references available:
http://www.chick.com/default.asp http://www.chick.com/bible/ http://www.deanburgonsociety.org/ http://www.febc.edu.sg/index.htm [http://www.febc.edu.sg/assets/pdfs/febc_press/KJV%20Q&A.pdf] Check

Let me hasten to add a caveat here, if you bother to check out the references above you will be amazed at the vitriol and accusative language and scurrilous behaviour reported in some of the above websites on occasion. However I was looking for TRUTH not perfect models of Christian charity so I thought because I find gold in some grubby dealer's hands I shouldn’t blame the gold. My father used to say “Gold is where you find it.” Since I began to work on this book I have sadly had to review my endorsement of Gail Riplinger's contribution to my own development in this area. I am grateful for her input through her book in the early days, even though I discovered not a few errors and misquotations in her book New Age Versions and when I emailed her revealing my findings I received no reply. But of recent times things have deteriorated and I leave you to read at the following URL(if you want) for the explanation as to why I now cannot endorse her work or doctrinal position. This report is so sordid that I did not include even excerpts here and if you will take my word for it you might not need to read the report. It is clear that having lied repeatedly over a long period of time without repentance, that she has shown herself to be a liar. (Someone who lies incidentally and afterward confesses to God and corrects themselves is not a liar – habitual and unrepentant liars are mentioned Re 21:8 if you read this quotation and it makes you nervous go immediately to God in repentance and ask Him to give you power never to lie again.)

God's Wake-up Call

There are a number of other issues that disqualify her as a spiritual teacher. However a liar cannot be taken seriously in the matter of research and doctrine since all they say comes into question – even the “good stuff.” http://www.deanburgonsociety.org/PDF/RiplingerAnsweredByYSW. pdf I perceive that when God reveals His truth to truth seekers all is well until pride takes over. Then whoever “bends” the truth abandons it altogether. It is sad to witness what the Devil can do with the research of believers who begin well but end in error. BUT....! BE SURE YOU DON' T “THROW OUT THE BABY WITH THE BATHWATER.” The devil loves to dirty the water and then laughs at us when we throw out the baby along with it.

God's Wake-up Call

“But Boris some of our latest bibles are a bit of a stretch even for my imagination”

He does that for me from time to time too. You probably did not need the teacher to slap you to wake you up at school. I did. I remember the fright, surprise and indignity of the experience now. I needed it of course, to help me focus on the task in hand and I still do. The other week the Lord slapped me “a good one” again. I lost the first writing of this book with all its notes and research in a series of computer misadventures which could probably been avoided if I had been listening to that still small voice. When it happened I thought disaster had struck, but very soon after I

God's Wake-up Call

had collected myself I realised again that with God there are no emergencies. He is even in control of computer crashes. I came to the conclusion that my Lord did not approve of the first draft and after prayerfully considering the situation I believe the Lord would have me approach the task differently. (This conclusion has since been verified and my position has slightly changed on one or two issues.) So this is not a copy but a rewrite of the original theme and message. I am not suggesting that this is going to be “holy writ” as is the word of God but there is an example of God restoring writings of His words:
Jer 36:9 ….in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah …. [Then read this passage all the way down to verse 32 ] Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.

Jehoiakim's fire was in those days equivalent to a total computer crash and the content just as irretrievable ..“but God” was able not only to replace His words but to add to them “many like words” because God never forgets anything accidentally and His recall is 100% accurate. Please Lord, as the little boy said when he first saw lightening, “Do it again God, do it again!! I began in Chapter 2 to deal with my becoming aware that there was something wrong, seriously wrong with the plethora of bibles we have in use in the churches today. God brought it to my attention and also He began to bring across my path, teaching from various sources some of which are listed later in this book. However, I was confused before I saw the form of Antichrist taking shape behind the new bibles and what they were achieving in the Laodicean church age in which we live. I want to,

God's Wake-up Call

try at least, to give you a shortcut to way into the discoveries I made on my journey with the Lord. If you want to check the details for yourself there should be enough resources listed or quoted here to allow you to get even a better “handle” on it than I have.

Firstly as a non Catholic I have always been taught that our highest authority in church life is the Word of God. However that is the theory that most evangelicals hold and teach, whether they actually do it (i.e. study their Bibles) is another thing entirely. Catholics have at their disposal, all the way up the hierarchy, from priest to Pope as their final authority. Anglicans and other sacramental churches have a hierarchical progression up to the Church governing body Synod, or church governing body, which, in matters of dispute, supposedly have the Bible as their final authority. The “free” non sacramental Churches largely teach that the believer can appeal to the Bible as their final authority, the proviso of course is that their constituents think inside the box of the church's constitution and statement of faith and doctrine. In my experience the church's constitution and or the Annual General Meeting can unbelievably, overrule the Bible on occasion. If the way I have written this summary seems to have a somewhat cynical taint, this is because after spending a lifetime as the grandson of an ordained Baptist minister, the son of a Baptist laypreacher and as an ordained minister of the Christian and Missionary Alliance of Australia, I have witnessed the way that those environments poorly emulate the ideals they espouse. Nevertheless the outline sketched here is roughly the way the churches stand.

God's Wake-up Call

The 1994 Catechism of the Catholic Church declares: "It is clear therefore that, in the supremely wise arrangement of God, sacred Tradition, Sacred Scripture, and the Magisterium of the Church are so connected and associated that one of them cannot stand without the others. Working together, each in its own way, under the action of the one Holy Spirit, they all contribute effectively to the salvation of souls." (Pg. 34, #95) (emphasis mine) Anglicans say: The Bible is the inspired word of God, containing all things necessary for salvation, and is the final authority and unchangeable standard for Christian faith and life.

The “free” and independent churches traditionally hold that the Bible is the Word of God and the only rule for Christian faith and practice. Following is a general outline and by no means complete:

Sacramental churches appeal to the Bible as their final authority but

God's Wake-up Call

in practice “interpretation” does not get past the top of the hierarchical level. Free Churches largely hold that their church statement of faith and or constitution is the final arbiter in doctrinal disputes. I have already alluded to Jesus' standard for faith and practice in Chapter 2, here it is again:
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. (Matt 4:4 )

In practice I see that every one has a different Bible. So the burning question is , “Where is every word of God to be found? IT HAS TO BE SOMEWHERE God is unfair and unjust to expect us to keep His word if we just don't have it and we could only conclude that He is impotent if He could not preserve it. (Ps 105:8 ) Before I ever began my research on the texts that underlie the Bible I had observed that the Christian world was swamped with Bibles that all had different words to a large degree. Just how many differences there were I had never bothered to check though I knew there were more than a few. So the question occurred to me “If there is a complete word of God where is it?” Was Granny right when she said Saint Paul had chosen the King James Bible as God's word ( I say that tongue in cheek(.) However there were a lot of respected Bible teachers I had come across who believed that the King James was the only worth while translation. Rev. Murray Downey, my teacher in Bible at the Alliance Bible College used to often say “Oo, Ooo don't forget to read your King James Bible.” I have since suspected that he thought

God's Wake-up Call

it to be “the one Bible that God blessed.” I have also discovered since that the Alliance “powers that be” issued dire warning against those who would teach that the KJV was the only valid Bible in English. Then God brought across my path, so to speak, Gail Riplinger's book New Age Versions. In spite of it's faults it woke me up to the fact that all the new versions were critically different in the words they used at times, even changing the meanings of the words of the King James Bible on which I had been raised. When I was nine years old my Dad gave me a paper back Gospel of John that I read and re-read until it was tatty and dog eared. Ever since it has been my favourite Gospel and I suspect that it was my familiarity with John's Gospel that alerted me to changes in those early days of reading the NASB and later NKJV. I was uncomfortable but as God had said to me I just did not know anything about the texts they came from nor what the significance of the difference was.

If it were only that these translators and editors of the bible were making changes in order to copyright their work this would be bad enough as God prohibits this in:
Deuteronomy 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

and also the last part of Revelation 22:
Re 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

God's Wake-up Call

19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

In the parable of the tares Mt 13:28 even though the men slept when the enemy came there was no doubt in their minds when the master spied the result:
Mt 13:28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this.

There are some things that are just as obvious in the modern bibles. An enemy hath done this:

Many have written volumes listing the differences in the texts, the omission and additions to the text that was for 400 years since 1611 accepted by the evangelical Christian Church as the Holy and wholly inerrant Bible. The changes are extensive and relate to the various objections raised by the disbelievers of NT history. They are aimed specifically at the deity of Christ, the doctrine of the trinity, the identity of Satan as Lucifer and Christ, the inerrancy of Scripture and so on. This Bible (the KJV or Authorised Version) was blessed and used by God to bring salvation to countless millions of believers world-wide both in English and foreign languages (I am an English speaking Australian so to me languages other than English are foreign). The Authorised Version KJV, for 400 years plus was God's chosen word in English which brought revivals through John and Charles Wesley; George Whitefield; Jonathan Edwards; Charles Finney; D.L. Moody; Charles Spurgeon; General William and Catherine

God's Wake-up Call

Booth and many others. Eventually the Gospel was taken to the whole world. So when I was confronted by these facts I had no alternative but to align myself with the version God Himself had chosen to use. I graduated to the place where I decided that the KJV was the best translation available to the Christian believer ( for me ) today. But I have to include at least a sample of the many examples of the arguments of other believers available on the Internet today: Here is what Cornerstone Baptist Church argues at:
http://www.cornerstonekjv1611.com.au/faq/index.php? sid=156&lang=en&action=artikel&id=93 1.1 Tim. 3:16 – "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh…" Here the Bible says without a doubt that God showed up on this earth in a flesh and blood body. That’s what Christ professed when he said, "And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me," (Jn. 12:45). However, the modern Bibles take the word "God" out of the verse and substitute the words "who" or "he who" leaving doubt as to whether Jesus was really God or not. 2.Luke 2:33 – "And Joseph and his mother marveled at those things which were spoken of him." This is the verse that the Lord used to convince me about the differences in Bibles. Joseph was not Jesus’ father, God was (Lk. 2:49). The modern bibles, however, substitute the word "father" for the word "Joseph" in this verse, thereby destroying Christ’s deity. They instead corroborate the Pharisees’ accusation that Jesus was the bastard son of Mary (Jn. 8:41) – nice guys!! 3.1 Jn. 5:7 – "For there are three that bear record in heaven. The Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." This is by far the greatest verse on the Trinity in the Bible. It says clearly that Jesus Christ and God the Father are one and the same God. However, the modern Bibles remove this verse altogether. Of course, you won’t be able to tell that at first glance because they either split verse 6 in two, or verse 8 in two. That way the verse count remains the same and yet one is missing.

God's Wake-up Call

Pretty crooked, if you ask me!!

Check out the extra notes in the appendices and read the paper on The Johannine Comma 1 Jn. 5:7 Appendix I I am not just telling you “God told me so that settles it.” I have heard that line come over Pentecostal and Charismatic pulpits many times. That is a cheap and “blasphemous easy out.” What I have told you is that God told me that I didn't know! and now I am giving you free, the results of the research to which He Guided me. If you reject it you could very possibly be damned on the basis of 2Thess 2:11,12. but not because you take no notice of me. But because of what the Word of God says in 2Thessalonians.

God's Wake-up Call

Drats!!! it survived!

This chapter reveals the way God led me ever closer to being abandoned by the peers which I had, as I grew up spiritually in the churches. If you seek for and hold to the truth when and where you find it you will begin to realise what the words of Jesus really mean when He says: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth
unto life, and few there be that find it. (Mt 7:14)

It came to me somewhere along the way that God had brought this version (translation) of the KJV into being supernaturally. I was lying in my bed one night and my mind was fruitlessly going over these things when all of a sudden as is God's want, He gave me a word I had never heard of before, “transmogrification.” That is all. When the Lord wants me to do the spade work, to dig around

God's Wake-up Call

and find something I otherwise would never have discovered on my own, He just drops something in my “In” box. Lots of things go in there from well meaning friends, neighbours and sometimes from the enemy. But something posted from the Lord has a royal stamp it is significant and demanding of attention. Next day I looked the word up

trans·mog·ri·fy (trns-mgr-f, trnz-) tr.v. trans·mog·ri·fied, trans·mog·ri·fy·ing, trans·mog·ri·fies To change into a different shape or form, especially one that is fantastic or bizarre. The word I looked up first had a chemistry application. Transmutation or Transmogrification is the ability to psychically turn one substance into another substance. One with this ability could do this one of two ways. The first version of this ability is Molecular Transmutation or Molecular Transmogrification, in which one rearranges the molecules of objects, transforming them into something that it is already similar to, such as water into hydrogen and oxygen. The second version is called Atomic Transmutation or Atomic Transmogrification, in which one rearranges the atoms of objects to turn a substance into another substance entirely, such as turning lead to gold or wood to diamond.

What it meant to me as I searched for answers to the question about the preservation of “every word of God” was this. If God was particular that we should obey His every word and all the later English translations were different from the one that He had obviously blessed for 400 years HOW COULD A SINCERE

God's Wake-up Call

BELIEVER KNOW WHICH, from all the bibles we have today, WAS GOD'S WORD?

If He could have preserved every word of the original in an entirely different language, English... The finished article need not be of lesser value if we are changing lead into gold or water into diamond for example and leaving alone the possibility of it being achieved – God could! If God did it then...

THAT WOULD SEAL IT! no one would be able to make an
improvement on the translation no matter how “logical” it sounded.
2Pe 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. The word “interpretation” here throughout the New

Testament means “translation.” But this would not be a “private” interpretation but one prepared and supervised, indeed controlled by God. IF THE TRANSLATORS WERE BROUGHT TOGETHER BY GOD, GUIDING THEIR SELECTION OF TEXTS AND KEEPING THOSE HE WANTED BECAUSE THEY KEPT HIS ORIGINAL WORDS, AND THEY FINISHED THE TASK UNDER HIS SUPERVISION THIS WOULD BE SO? The King James Version Translators When the LORD God of Israel chose the prophets and apostles of old to pen the Scriptures, He made His selection with the utmost care. Faith, holiness, a love for truth and inherent ability were the deciding qualities He looked for. In

God's Wake-up Call

other words the Most High looks within when selecting His servants. That is how He always judges men. 1Samuel 16:7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. The Protestant translators of the King James Version were providentially chosen by God in exactly the same way: firstly for their faith, holiness and love of truth, and secondly for their linguistic abilities. In other words, they were TRUE BELIEVERS. At their centre some 47 pious scholars were involved. In addition many hundreds of Protestant ministers and believing linguists throughout the UK assisted in the great work. I cannot over stress the importance of that fact: that FAITH IN GOD was the first and over-riding reason why the Almighty chose the KJV translators for their sacred task. It is totally inconceivable that the Almighty, who initially inspired "faithful, holy men of God" to write the Scriptures in the first place, would then - centuries later - hand over the translating of those selfsame Scriptures to unbelievers and sceptics. So I repeat: the translators of the King James Version were MEN OF FAITH, who believed that the text they were translating was, in fact, the WORD OF GOD! "Thus started the greatest writing project the world has ever known, and the greatest achievement of the reign of James I the making of the English Bible which has ever since borne his name." God's Wake-up Call

WHAT COULD WE EXPECT TO FIND IN SUCH A PRESERVED TRANSLATION? 1. There would be no factual errors in it. 2. There would be no doctrinal contradictions in it.
It would not contradict itself nor would the New Testament contradict the Old Testament and vice versa.

3. It would have the same numerical stamp of God on it in both Testaments. Let's deal with these three points separately: If the Authorised version is inspired by God

Firstly: There will be no factual errors in it.
Peter S Ruckman regardless of the criticism of his theories on the character of the KJV – holds that it is such a protected translation and so perfect that the text of the KJV even corrects the Greek in some places. Despite what we might think in our condemnation of these ideas he had done something no other - to my knowledge - has done in researching and answering 400 perceived problems raised by the scoffers at the KJV only believers. Peter S Ruckman wrote “The “Errors” in the King James Bible, a 511 page volume dealing with the so called “problem texts” of the King James Bible. He says in the preface to the book:
Here then are 400 “problem Texts.” They are mainly problems invented by the old nature of the lost or saved sinner, but they are posited as genuine “problems” in order to shake the faith of the Bible reader in the

God's Wake-up Call

veracity and authority of the word of God.

I urge you to obtain a copy of this book if you are serious about discovering if the Authorised Bible is God's inspired word. My recommendation comes with one word of caution. Peter S Ruckman is a diamond in the rough, nevertheless a working diamond that tips the drill-bits of those who are determined to drill through bedrock in search of truth more precious than gold. The jacket of the volume I have bears this recommendation:
With this work, Dr. Peter S. Ruckman answers every major attack on the words of the King James text, as you have it, and shows that no man, living or dead has ever proved one error in the text. Formerly titled “Problem Texts,” this book gives you complete, irrefutable and Biblical answers to the “corrections” or alterations of the King James Bible by Hebrew and Greek speaking apostates.

At this writing still available at: http://www.kjv1611.org/

Secondly: There would be no doctrinal contradictions in it.
It would not contradict itself nor would the New Testament contradict the Old Testament and vice versa. I am not about to embark here, on a second book pointing out the answers to the supposed contradictions in the Authorised version alleged by the sceptics. I present one refutation only that is commonly used as an example. This shows that if we reason from a biblical position of faith in God and His word this text holds and is logically sound.

God's Wake-up Call

In Matthew 1:16 Jacob is said to be the father of Joseph the husband of Mary. It does not say that Joseph begat Jesus, but only that Joseph was Mary's husband, and Mary gave birth to Jesus. Luke's records, "And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli" (Luke 3:23) Therefore the verse is indicating that Joseph was Jesus' step father, and that this genealogy is not of Joseph, which clearly if a genealogy of Jesus, would mean this is Mary's lineage. Therefore, Jesus was a descendant of Mary, who was a descendant of David and of the Tribe of Judah. Jesus lineage as the descendant of David is established legally through his step father Joseph and physically through Mary His mother. On comparing the two genealogies, it will be found that Matthew, writing more immediately for Jews, deemed it enough to show that the Saviour was sprung from Abraham and David; whereas Luke, writing more immediately for Gentiles, traces the descent back to Adam, the parent stock of the whole human family, thus showing Him to be the promised Messiah, the "Seed of the woman who would bruise the head of Satan (serpent)." (Gen. 3:15) Twelve verses in the New Testament state that Jesus was the son of David. (Matt 1:1; 9:27; 20:30; Mark 10:47; 12:35; Luke 6:3; 18:38; Acts 1:16; 7:45; Rom. 1:3; 2 Titus 2:8; Rev. 22:16) In Revelation 22:16, Jesus Himself said, "I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star." So, a Christian believes the word of God and accepts what it says. Repeatedly Jesus is said to be the descendant of David. Jesus said it Himself....so we accept that as true. [emphasis mine]

God's Wake-up Call

Thirdly. It would have the same numerical stamp of God on it in both Testaments.
Not only showing God's “finger print” on the work but welding it irrevocably as one with the Old Testament in inspiration and purpose . While we are dealing with the English translation of the Authorised version and hold that “private” re-translation is not “up or grabs” within the Christian community at large, there is still a need to recognise that the New Testament was translated by select men from the Greek text. The reliability of that Greek text is verified by the stamp of the Holy Spirit on it as the solid foundation for the English. We have no hesitation in relying on the work of those men, but pause to point out the miraculous preservation of the text they used. Just one of the supernatural characteristics of the New Testament AV Text is the use of the number “7.” This extract is from Chuck Missler and is freely available on the Internet at:

Ivan Panin was born in Russia on December 12, 1855.… He was to devote over 50 years of his life painstakingly exploring the numerical structure of the Scriptures, generating over 43,000 detailed, hand-penned pages of analysis (and exhausting his health in the process). He went on to be with the Lord in his 87th year, on October 30, 1942. An Example

God's Wake-up Call

The first 17 verses of the Gospel of Matthew are a logical unit, or section, which deals with a single principal subject: the genealogy of Christ. It contains 72 Greek vocabulary words in these initial 17 verses. (The verse divisions are man's allocations for convenience, added in the 13th century.) The number of words which are nouns is exactly 56, or 7 x 8. The Greek word "the" occurs most frequently in the passage: exactly 56 times, or 7 x 8. Also, the number of different forms in which the article "the" occurs is exactly 7. There are two main sections in the passage: verse 1-11, and 12-17. In the first main section, the number of Greek vocabulary words used is 49, or 7 x 7. Why not 48, or 50? Of these 49 words, the number of those beginning with a vowel is 28, or 7 x 4. The number of words beginning with a consonant is 21, or 7 x 3. The total numbers of letters in these 49 words is 266, or 7 x 38 - exactly! The number of vowels among these 266 letters is 140, or 7 x 20. The number of consonants is 126, or 7 x 18 - exactly. Of the 49 words, the number of words which occur more than once is 35, or 7 x 5. The number of words occurring only once is 14, or 7 x 2. The number of words which occur in only one form is exactly 42, or 7 x 6. The number of words appearing in more than one form is also 7. The number of the 49 Greek vocabulary words which are nouns is 42, or 7 x 6. The number of words which are not nouns is 7. Of the nouns, 35 are proper names, or exactly 7 x 5. These 35 names are used 63 times, or 7 x 9. The number of male names is exactly 28, or 7 x 4. These male names occur 56 times or 7 x 8. The number which are not male names is 7. Three women are mentioned - Tamar, Rahab, and Ruth. The number of Greek letters in these three names is 14, 7 x 2. The number of compound nouns is 7. The number of Greek letters in these 7 nouns is 49, or 7 x 7.

God's Wake-up Call

Only one city is named in this passage, Babylon, which in Greek contains exactly 7 letters. ….. Gemetria There are even more features in the numerical structure of the words themselves. As you may know, both Hebrew and Greek uses the letters of the alphabet for numerical values. Therefore, any specific word - in either Hebrew or Greek - has a numerical value of its own by adding up the values of the letters in that particular word. The study of the numerical values of words is called gemetria. The 72 vocabulary words add up to a gametrical value of 42,364, or 7 x 6,052. Exactly. If one Greek letter was changed, this would not happen.

The 72 words appear in 90 forms - some appear in more than one form. The numeric value of the 90 forms is 54,075, or 7 x 7,725. Exactly.
We will defer other examples of gametrical properties of the Biblical text for subsequent articles, but it becomes immediately obvious that hidden below the surface are aspects of design that cannot be accidental or just coincidence. Remember, the rabbis say that "coincidence" is not a kosher word!

The full text of this file is in the appendix but I urge you to go to the Koinonea website shown above this extract and follow the full subject presentation on the internet. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN IN THE GREEK TEXT OF THE NEW BIBLES!

Most people who dismiss “inspired translation” set out to prove their

God's Wake-up Call

point by referring to the existing texts. Lets face it that, outside of God's direct intervention, is all we have. It is my contention that God did intervene in the production of the KJV by specifically calling on the use of the perfect Greek texts. The ravages of time and careless hands have eroded and/or mutilated all of the ancient texts that have in any way survived. God Himself would know which Manuscripts and fragments of Manuscripts retained His word intact! Scholars will not like that presumption because it reduces the acceptance of the Authorised Version to acceptance by faith. A conclusion based on faith not science. If you are just now agreeing with the “textual scientists” don't let me hear you arguing for Creation in 7 solar days because those of us who believe it, are quite happy to dispense with “science” in favour of God's word in the Creation issue. To be consistent we are bound to believe that God could and did preserve every word of the NT Because He said so. The only question to decide is in which Bible He did it. A comparison of the contradictions, subtractions and additions in the bibles subsequent to the KJV seals the question for ever. But wait! Before we leave this subject. Remember the Scripture in Jeremiah 36
15 And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears. 16 Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words. 17 And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth? 18 Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book. 19 Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye be.

God's Wake-up Call

20 ¶ And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king. 21 So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe’s chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king. 22 Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him. 23 And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth. 24 Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words. 25 Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll: but he would not hear them. 26 But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: bLORD hid them. 27 Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying, 28 Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned. 29 And thou shalt say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast? 30 Therefore thus saith the LORD of Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.ut the 31 And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they hearkened not. 32 Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.

We have to note a couple of things in relation to this miraculous

God's Wake-up Call

event. Firstly the words of God had been destroyed, to all natural sense and purpose, totally out of existence. But not out of God's mind. Secondly God re-inspired them to Jeremiah which Baruch committed to a new document. Thirdly God added. You missed that so I'll say it again: God added many more like words. If God adds to His inspired words they will be like words, they will be just as accurate, powerful and infallible as the first record. How dare we cut them up with a pen knife again and burn them in part or in whole. We not only have a perfectly preserved Greek Text but a perfectly restored New Testament Words of God in English. Those “experts” who after a few years of learning Greek assume that they can perform a revision on the text or any part of it are peddling a spurious “private interpretation /translation.” 2Pe 1:20 Knowing this first,
that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.[i.e. translation]

God's Wake-up Call

Everything has a use-by date!

The short answer is because the relevance of all prophesy relates to the people to whom the prophesy is given. To state an obvious example; the prophesy of the Angel of Death: Exodus 12:10 And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye

God's Wake-up Call

shall burn with fire. 11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’S passover. 12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. The “use-by” date for the above prophesy was THAT NIGHT. If the people heeded and acted on that prophesy a week later they would have all been affected by their first-born dying. There are many other really obvious prophesies in Scripture that have come and gone; the universal flood for instance. God does not expect anyone to build an ark and take the animals on board by twos and sevens today. So in this we have discovered that there is an invariable rule for understanding prophesy. The rule is this: All prophesy has a use-by date unless it is otherwise stated.

Because some NT prophesies are past their “use-by date” continuing to use those prophesies (writings) as a mandate for NT doctrine and behaviour brings the users into error and dis-repute, and yet many still do. Apostleship is one that comes to mind; but I am premature here as I will deal with what the Bible teaches about this in a subsequent chapter. Beginning on the next page is an approximation of the time line of

God's Wake-up Call

the New Testament which is crucial to understanding New Testament doctrine. Ignorance of this leads to error and causes many otherwise innocent believers to be seduced by lying spirits. The way I escaped this was by the leading of the Holy Spirit. If He had not given me a “heads-up” at a point when I was willing to listen and take it in I would today be still wallowing in the “slough of Despond” described by Bunyan. But now thankfully “been there, done that, took the tour” but fortunately, praise God, stopped short of “buying the tee shirt.” The website sources are where you can see the full treatment of this subject and though there is a bit of “come and go” in the actual dates we don't need pinpoint accuracy to understand the implications.

God's Wake-up Call

And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.

But wait a minute! I am not implying that I don't believe in revival and EVERY REVIVAL IS GENERATED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT! There have been many revivals since the Pentecost of Acts 2 and I pray and work that there may be more. I can't bring them about but the Holy Spirit absolutely can! Nor am I implying that I don't believe in miracles. Miracles still happen today. However there are some things, in the history of this planet and the Church and the way God sees it from Genesis to Revelation, that can

God's Wake-up Call

never be repeated. A universal flood for instance will never happen again (once was enough you might say) but we know it was a “oncer” because God said so
Gen 9:13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. 14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: 15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.

There are other events in God's dealing with mankind that cannot be repeated, simply because their purpose is fulfilled. God will never send His Son Jesus as a tiny baby. Next time He comes to visit our planet it will be at first in vengeance. After He gathers His Elect from the four winds:
Matt 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

The thief comes unexpectedly but there is nothing in the Bible to give us the understanding that He will come “sneaking in” quietly, quite the reverse. The timing is what is unexpected. In fact the Bible states here unequivocally that He will come and shake the whole house and wake the dead. More on this later. (1) So no more Flood and (2) no more “away in a Manger no crib for a bed.” While we are enumerating the list there will be (3) no more Cross for

God's Wake-up Call

Christ. We continue to memorialise it in the ordinance of the Lord's table but, not as some falsely teach, Jesus is not sacrificed often as in the “Eucharist”
Heb 10:9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. 10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. 14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

Though there is a cross for us to bear (Lu 9:23.)

Many believers want to perpetuate this event calling the Holy Spirit to “fall” again as He did on that fiftieth day after the Passover which Jesus celebrated with His disciples. But that was a landmark in history that marked GOD'S OFFICIAL COMMENCEMENT OF THE GIVING THE THE NEW TESTAMENT WORD OF GOD through the inspiration of the Apostles by the Holy Spirit. While the four Gospels appear in the NT before the writings of Luke's Book of the Acts of the Apostles. The New Testament and, Pentecost in Acts2 was chronologically first. It was Pentecost that brought authority (power) upon the Apostles for all their acts and writings.
Ac 1:8 But ye shall receive power [authority], after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

It is important to mark that because the mistaken notion of the many

God's Wake-up Call

is to assign power (authority) to all the disciples who witnessed the events of that first Pentecost. Here is the scriptural pattern for New Testament believers who are not Apostles in Acts 19:
Ac 19:1 ¶ And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since [seeing that] ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

Paul expected that they would have been baptised and received the Holy Spirit as this was the normal sequence of events for new believers.
3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. 7 And all the men were about twelve.

Their teaching and conversion under Apollos was imperfect. Paul demonstrates to them that the order of sound doctrine was that they should follow the teaching of the Lord Jesus and remember that Jesus taught
Mt 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

But please note that Paul's challenge to them in Ac 19:2 Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? NOT have ye received power (authority.) These two things are not the same. We observe the same conditions at Caesarea, Cornelius' house:

God's Wake-up Call

Ac 10:45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

THE AUTHORITY GIVEN TO THE APOSTLES WAS AUTHORITY TO SPEAK AS FROM GOD and thus God generated the completion of His Holy Bible in the 27 books of the New Testament

THIS IS THAT Ac 2:16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

A Baptist minister I once knew tells the story of preaching and using that phrase. He said I had to stop using it because there was a little kid, a toddler in the congregation and every time I said “This is that!” he would immediately pipe up “This is that!” like an echo, breaking the congregation up.

God's Wake-up Call

However this WAS that, a partial fulfilment of that prophesy from Joel however the part that relates to Pentecost has come and gone for ever. It was accompanied by signs and wonders to mark the event and authenticate the true Apostles, then it reached its “use by” date and was gone. Some today preach a “latter rain” of the Holy Spirit, and outpouring of the Holy Spirit marked by signs and wonders as was that initial out pouring. Scripture does not support this without being manipulated. There is no reference to signs and wonders in the Bible in latter days BEFORE Christ's return. Except for the signs and wonders predicted in 2Thessalonians 2. After the Lord's earth stopping, earth quaking return (Mt 24:30) there will be a revival in Israel and national repentance and return to the Messiah they once rejected and hanged on a tree at Calvary and God will pour out His Spirit on the believers of the nation Israel. (Ezekiel 39:23-29; Am 9:9 -15; &etc.) God still miraculously answers prayer. Despite however the fact that the signs of an Apostle that once established Paul's ministry seem to have ceased by A.D. 64 (see 1Ti 5:23).

The amazing accompaniment of foreign tongues spoken by the Apostles on that day “prophesying;” that is preaching and teaching.
Ac 2:11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. Ac 10:46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.

God's Wake-up Call

Ac 2:16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; Isa 28:11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. 12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. 13 But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken. 14 ¶ Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men , that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.

The refreshing that would come after the four hundred years since God caused His Word to be spoken and written, closing the Old Testament, was a reintroduction to the fresh Word of God out poured by the Holy Spirit on the Apostles who were the recipients and recordists of God's New Testament Word. GOD CALLED THE APOSTLES TOGETHER ON PENTECOST
(Who rose up? The two who had met Jesus on the road to Emmaus see Luke 24:13) Luke 24:33 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, 34 Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. 35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread. 36 ¶ And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. 37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit....... 45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand

God's Wake-up Call

the scriptures, 46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And ye are witnesses of these things. 49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. 50 ¶ And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. 51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.

We can see from this and parallel passages in Mt 28:16 ; and Mr 16:14 that Jesus “commissioned the eleven” to wait in Jerusalem for the coming upon THEM of the Holy Spirit. They, “the eleven (Apostles and later Paul)” were especially ordained to bring New Testament doctrine to the Church. This is a crucial point in understanding Pentecost and its pivotal significance to doctrine.

Actually no we can't support this from Scripture. Remember that for those of us who are believers in Jesus Christ and NOT believers in the “Church” (see chapter 2) Scripture is the final arbiter.

Ac 1:15 ¶ And in those days [while they were waiting for the coming of the Holy Spirit] Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,) 16 Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.

God's Wake-up Call

17 For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry. 18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. 19 And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood. 20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.[Ps 109:8 ] 21 Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, 22 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection. 23 And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. 24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen, 25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place. 26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. 1 ¶ And when the day of Pentecost was fully come , they were all with one accord in one place.

“The eleven” took this action before the Holy Spirit had been given who was to lead them: Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will
guide you into all truth: (Joh 16:13)

If this is true let the Bible interpret itself, there will be more on this, let us see. It is my contention that Paul was God's choice to fill the place of Judas. If that is true scripture will confirm it. Paul writes, and it can only be that he speaks of himself, he speaks so diminutively:

God's Wake-up Call

2Co 12:2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. 3 And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) 4 How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. 5 Of such an one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities.

We have seen the result of that sojourn in heaven with the Lord Jesus he once persecuted; Paul wrote 14 books: Romans, 1 & 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians,1 & 2 Thessalonians, 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon and [I think] Hebrews. About 50% of the New Testament and the greatest influence on New Testament Doctrine of any of the Apostles. What do we hear of Matthias' ministry teaching or preaching the gospel? – nothing. Was Matthias included with the record of the Apostles' activities through the New Testament Pentecost?.. No? Show me! O.K. how about this... We have already established that the Apostles are in Acts called “the eleven.” If there are no mistakes in the Bible record (apart from the mistakes of the men of history like the tower of Babel and Judas' betrayal of Jesus and subsequent suicide etc., etc.) but the recording of the Bible narrative and doctrine is error free. See how the Bible refers to the Apostles immediately after the “election” of Matthias by “lot casting.”
Ac 2:14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

God's Wake-up Call

Where was Matthias? If he was “numbered with the eleven apostles” as it says in Ac 1:26 then who was it that numbered him with the apostles – not the Holy Spirit, obviously or else Ac 2:14 would read, “Peter standing up with the “twelve.”” We need to carefully read the Scripture and believe its inerrant statements of fact. We can get from this incident a rule, “You can vote and cast lots and appoint all you like, even in a religious conference of 120 devout believers, but don't faint if God vetoes the legislation”

Ro 1:1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, 1Co 1:1 Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother, 1Co 9:1 Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord? 2Co 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia: 2Co 12:12 Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds. Ga 1:1 Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;) Eph 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus: Col 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother, 1Ti 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope; 1Ti 2:7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. 2Ti 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,

God's Wake-up Call

2Ti 1:11 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. Tit 1:1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; 1Co 15:8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.

In 1Corinthans 15 Paul mentions the many witnesses to the resurrection however, he names the Apostles who were witnesses to the resurrection.
1Cor 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve [including Matthias though not named cf Ac 1:22]: 6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. 7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. 8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.

A qualification for apostleship was the witnessing to the resurrected Jesus and commissioning by Him for apostleship. Further after Pentecost there were attesting signs and wonders that authenticate apostles including Paul.
Ac 5:12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch. Ac 14:3 Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands. Ro 15:19 Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. 2Co 12:12 Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you [i.e.

God's Wake-up Call

by Paul] in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.

The exclusion of Matthias is not that he was not a bona fide believer and disciple of Jesus, but that he was not included God's endorsed allocation of Apostleship.
Re 21:14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

If Paul was certainly an apostle and a foundation of the doctrine of the Church he was, therefore, the twelfth name on the foundations of the new Jerusalem Re 21:14.

It makes all the difference to New Testament doctrine when we realise that it was God's purpose to generate a New Testament Scripture, God's inspired word, and that this came to us from the writings of the Apostles. The bona fides of New Testament doctrine and prophesy (preaching and forth telling) rested on the Apostle's endorsement of the source and content of such utterance. Proof of this is seen in:
1John 4:1 ¶ Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the

God's Wake-up Call

flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. 6 We are of God:[i.e. the Apostles] he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

WE ARE TO MEASURE TRUTH, SOUND DOCTRINE, SPIRITUAL UTTERANCE BY SCRIPTURE. If the Apostles were with us we could go to them. However God saw to it that they left the Scriptures behind for us, God's word to them, and through them to us.

ADDENDUM TO CHAPTER 5 This inset has nothing to do with the theme and substance of this book, but since someone is bound to ask about the seeming anomaly between the following verses: Ac 1:18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. Mt 27:5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. Question: How did he manage to hang himself and fall headlong as well since presumably he would be dead after he hanged himself.

God's Wake-up Call

Answer: he hanged himself first and fell headlong from a great height either after the rope broke or was cut. The Bible supplies the FACTS and as usual not all the intricate details.

Chapter 7 NEW TESTAMENT DOCTRINE What about Miracles, Tongues and Healing?

- not on all the Christian believers in Jerusalem.
Ac 2:1 ¶ And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 ¶ And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. 7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? 9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, 10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works 12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? 13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine. 14 ¶ But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

God's Wake-up Call

God's Wake-up Call

In the 21st century there are many who read the events of the Acts of the Apostles and translate them “holus bolus” as being the norm for the New Testament Church throughout New Testament history until the Rapture. But in this we misread Scripture and interpolate error along with truth. When Peter stood up to speak in Ac2:14 he is stood to speak on behalf of “the eleven” around whom was all the “action” of the Day of Pentecost; not the 120 of “those (earlier) days” mentioned in Acts 1:15. Almost everybody thinks that the cloven tongues of fire rested on the heads of 120 disciples. A careful reading of Acts 1&2 dispels this notion. The initial outpouring of “power” or “authority” was upon the eleven, even though this initiated the coming or baptism of the Holy Spirit to the individual believer and subsequently the events of

God's Wake-up Call

Ac10:47 and Acts19 confirms Holy Spirit baptism for the believer as the norm now though not with the same manifestation of tongues of fire as on Pentecost. So what is the problem? Just this; although fifty years or so later (1Cor see timeline ch5) people were laying hands on folks “willy nilly” with or in some cases without the unction (power) of the Holy Spirit with varying results; this was not the way God had planned it and he moved Paul to come with correction to Corinth. The counsel of Paul to the Corinthians was by way of correcting bad habits, unruly, erroneous and non-spiritual behaviour, not holding them up as a good example. Too often the Corinthian church is taken as a model for a “spiritfilled” church which it was not. Paul says in 1Co 1:7 …. ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: but he was not able to add to that “in the unity peace and love of the Holy Ghost.” No! What he tells in this epistle is the story of their “shortfall” see 1Cor 1:10
10 ¶ Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. 12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. 13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?

There were splits in the unity of the Church through sectarianism. People followed the emphases of their favourite teacher (denomination) of the day. God's purpose was to bring spiritual unity to the body of Christ so

God's Wake-up Call

that the Church would be identifiable by the character of its Shepherd not its under shepherd or shepherds. The real Church is an organism or body. The churches of New Testament religion are organizations led by under shepherds who are often not under shepherds but “boss cockies”. The real Church, though it is organised (not disorderly) is Christ centred, led by the Holy Spirit.
Ro 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Churches of religion are denominational (even those claiming to be non or un denominational). Organisation centred (the good of the organisation comes first) and led by a person or persons. Unity in these churches is organised by men who are politically motivated and find a way to compromise truth for the “good” of the many either changing traditionally held beliefs or putting doctrinal differences out of sight somewhere in order to bring all together under the leadership of one universal leader (eventually the Pope.) Having said all that, it is still possible, if only for a short time, for members of the “real Church” to reside in the churches of religion as did Lot in Sodom. 2Pe 2:8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in
seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

The fire of Pentecost was foretold by John:
Mt 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear:

God's Wake-up Call

he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Lu 3:16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:

Promised by the Father and Jesus:
Ac 1:4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

This was the fire that the welding of the Holy Spirit would use to fuse Jew and Gentile as one, into the body of Christ. Fire equals judgement in Scripture and what was to be judged In the Spirit-filled Church was the ordinance of the Law dearly held in the heart of the Jew:
Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

The Jews would not receive it without a supernatural sign and that sign was given in the house of Cornelius by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit attested to by tongues of fire and Prophesy in foreign languages. (Ac 10:8 – 48 be sure to read the whole passage)
1Co 14:21 ¶ In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord. 22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

As we have already said 1Corinthians is a letter of correction to an unruly and disobedient church. Although we can draw teaching, doctrine, from it we have to be VERY careful that we do not take doctrine from the paragraphs that describe their errors. Read all the

God's Wake-up Call

passage and evaluate these chapters especially (1Cor 12,13 &14) in light of the whole of New Testament Scripture. A careful reading of these chapters will reveal that Paul is explaining that tongues is a sign for the unbelieving Jews who were educated in the prophesies of God in the Old Testament but refused to receive the reality when it arrived at Pentecost in the New Testament. They were the unbelievers Paul spoke about in 1Co 14:21,22 (above.) A person coming into the meeting off the street, an uneducated (in Scripture) person hearing tongues would think the ones who were speaking in tongues “mad.” which was just what the onlookers on the day of Pentecost thought: Ac 2:13 Others mocking said, These men are
full of new wine.

“Oh there is a “gift” of tongues and the “sign of Tongues” !” Here is the problem with that view: The word for tongues in the original language is invariably γλωσσα glossa and is not directly referred to as a “gift” of the Spirit but in 1 Cor 12: 7-10 is referred to as a “manifestation” of the Spirit
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

Nowhere in Scripture does the text differentiate between tongues as a

God's Wake-up Call

sign or tongues as a gift.
1Cor 14:14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 ¶ What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. 16 Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest? 17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.

At Pentecost, at Cornelius' Gentile House and in Acts 19 it was the manifestation which indicated the presence and working of the Holy Spirit. Proof that the Gentiles were included with Israel in this outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Ac 5:12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch. Ac 6:6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them. Ac 8:18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, Whenever the New Testament says something about the activity of the Apostles it is speaking about “the eleven” (or one of the eleven) and later after the addition of Paul about “the twelve” although it never actually calls them “the twelve” it does by inference in Revelation (Re 21:14.)

God's Wake-up Call

Rom 9:25 ¶ As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved. 26 And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.

The importance of this fact, is the concluding of the revelation of scripture at the close of the New Testament. There is now no need for the gift of prophesy because we have the doctrine of the Apostles incorporated in God's Holy Word, the New Testament
Re 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

The Old Testament has a similar caution in:
De 12:32 What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

In the same way that God prohibits private translation 2Pe 1:20
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation [translation.] He also forbids additions, subtractions and alterations to

God's Wake-up Call

this Holy and complete Word. Some I know even go so far as to say that God will not speak to the heart of the believer today. However to teach this is presumptuous upon God who is sovereign and who is shown in the lives of many godly men as speaking clearly to their hearts and Scripture supports this.
Ro 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Ga 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

What is God not doing by speaking privately to lead his servants? He is not adding to the Scripture that He has already closed. Now if we are to try the spirits :
1Jo 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

As in those days we are to measure the spirits of the prophets by the doctrine of the Apostles, whose doctrine is complete in the words of God in the New Testament. In support of this read 1Jo 4:1-6 especially verse 6.

So if the gifts and signs of an Apostle verified the giving of God's New Testament word and its doctrine when did those manifestations cease?
1Cor 13:8 ¶ Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail [in the sense of a spring run dry]; whether there be tongues, they shall cease [just stop having no further usefulness God having turned away from Israel at this point]; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

God's Wake-up Call

9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect [complete] is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. 11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. [Fruit of the Spirit 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. ]

The language of 1Corinthians13:8-13 indicates that each of these manifestations lasted for varying lengths of time however all of them had a “use by date” which had expired when the New Testament was complete. All of them except for the fruit of the Spirit which is summed up in one word; LOVE, and which the scriptures say 1Cor 13:13...now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity(love). It seems ironic that the manifestation of tongues, the authenticating sign of the falling of the Holy Spirit to unify two groups of believers Jews and their hated Goim should in modern times be such a dividing influence in the Churches. This should be a warning to every sincere believer that the great deceiver is at work. If the manifestation of the Spirit ... the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. (1Co 12:7) and if the fruit of that manifestation is ... the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Ga 5:22,23) ….. Then one is forced to ask the question what is the real source of tongues in our day? Eventually we must conclude that there is a direct application here for 1John 4:1-6. Not to try the tongues but to try the spirits of the tongues. I speak from first-hand experience.

God's Wake-up Call

After the “great Commission” of Mark 16:15 Jesus foretold of the SIGNS that would follow them that believe (v17) as a result of the initial preaching of the gospel. From the plain language of the text we can see (and also from the subsequent recording of the prophesied events as they unfolded in the New Testament) that the salvation applied to all who received the gospel. However Jesus did not say, nor did He imply that every believer would pick up a serpent without harm, nor would all cast out demons and Scripture in 1Corinthians tells us that not all believers would speak in tongues: 1Co 12:30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak
with tongues? do all interpret? Mr 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Ac 8:19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.

When Simon the Sorcerer saw the result of the Apostles' laying on of hands he clearly associated this with a gift of Apostleship. It distinguished them from the “rank and file” of believers and he wanted to be a leader too. That was his motivation and his interest by the offered bribe was pecuniary.
Ac 8:9 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: 10 To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. 11 And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries. 12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the

God's Wake-up Call

kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done. 14 ¶ Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: 15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: 15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: 16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) 17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. 18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, 19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. 20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. 21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. 22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee. 23 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity. 24 Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.

The apostles were not impressed by his selfish and corrupt motivation and neither should we be impressed by his modern day counterparts. Certainly God is not impressed by motives that drive us toward wealth and political power. It was far different in Acts 6:
Ac 6:4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

God's Wake-up Call

5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch: 6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them. 7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith. Ac 13:3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

In the whole of the record of the New Testament there is no direction or instruction as to the laying on of hands for any useful purpose after the days of the Apostles - disagree? Then show me. (michael@tacsigns.com) Show me in scripture any passage that instructs us to lay hands even on the sick, apart from the Matthew 16 prophesy of Jesus which has been fulfilled, even if it never happens again. Do I think we sin if we lay our hands on believers to ordain them for a task or to pray for their healing? No. But there is no Scripture to warrant it. But let me tell a story here to give some balance to what I have been saying:

Only the names places and dates have been changed to protect the guilty and the innocent. I was then currently the Pastor of a church of around sixty people in a large city. One night around eight o'clock I received a knock at the front door. There in the porch light was a female member of the Youth Group standing barefoot dressed only in her boy friend's shirt.

God's Wake-up Call

I thought of the neighbours and hurriedly called my wife and urged the young lady to come in out of public view. My wife brought some kind of suitable covering for her and we listened to her story. Since around six that evening she had been fighting off her boyfriend – her words – who was attacking her in his car. She said he had suddenly changed and had become unreasonable and uncontrollable and it had taken all this time to get him to come here to see me. “Where is he now? “ “Outside,” she said. It dawned on me that I had not looked past her to the left where the steps up to the porch were. At the time uppermost in my mind was the pressing need to remove the spectacle from the possible view of the neighbours... but now I looked... Sure enough there was Ron crouched down on the steps, motionless and silent staring into space. He was quite compliant and let me lead him into the lounge room without a murmur. I immediately recognised the situation as demonic. We left Ron there while the three of us went into the kitchen to seek God, confess our sin and ask for cleansing and preparation by the Holy Spirit for the coming encounter. The young lady and my wife remained in the kitchen to support me in prayer while I sat on the organ stool and began to confront the demonic forces that controlled Ron. I am not going to go into the details of the interview except to say that during the course of the evening and after a struggle with the

God's Wake-up Call

personalities that manifested, they began to respond to commands in the name of Jesus. Then I asked the question “what grounds do you have? This man belongs to Jesus!” the demon entity said, quietly and a bit sheepishly, “He let them lay hands on him.” After we had Ron renounce that and all like permissions then were able to cast out a number of demons. Ron's demeanour changed and he became normal again. I wish the story had a happy ending but after some years the couple were married and the last I heard was that he was pastoring a Charismatic Church in another country.
Mt 12:43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. 44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.

The point of the story is, that while in the beginning of the New Testament era the Apostles laid hands on many believers. Since that time Satan has had a “field day” assigning religious spirits the task of simulating apostolic events after the fact. Stop and think about it. Satan can imitate all the gifts of the Spirit. Tongues, prophesy, miracles, signs and wonders even healing. These manifestations are so realistic that they may not be distinguished from the real thing. This is not only a manifestation that “testifies” to being “genuine,” but is also an enormous deterrent to the gainsayer, just in case they should, “quench the Holy Spirit.” This is a big discouragement to any who become suspicious of fraud and would challenge the evil spirits responsible.

God's Wake-up Call

“How can you say that it is evil for poor Mrs Jones who has been freed from pain after all these years?” “You can see for yourself the cancer just fell out of her body.” How can you say this is not from God? This Mrs Jones is fictional but typical of many I could name who once were buoyant in the excitement of the moment but lost what was thought to be real in the long term. The proof of the pudding is in the eating they say, but in five years time the people who did not doubt the genuineness of the miracle are not there to see that poor dear Mrs Jones is not still going on with the Lord, having gone back into the world of seances and mediums for guidance. A close family member was “healed” at a positive Charismatic healing meeting. His knees had been smashed in an accident with a split rim on a large crane wheel. If you ask around you will be told by those who work with big machinery tyres, few ever walk away from this type of accident. He recovered but was crippled. After the healing meeting he felt he had to demonstrate “faith” by casting away his walking stick and running down hill in the parking lot of the Church. He made it intact that day. Some day, he himself should tell the whole story of his spiritual struggles and how he came to faith again through trusting God's word. Does God heal today? Absolutely. I received healing soon after I was saved. I suffered from a disease the Doctor told me was incurable but controllable. I specifically asked the Lord to heal me because I believed that the continuance of this would be a perpetual reminder of my past sinful life and a deterrent to my preaching to others. The next time I visited my doctor he didn't believe “the prayer thing” but said all we can do is pronounce you healed. I have

God's Wake-up Call

never suffered symptoms again and that was 51 years ago. I wish I could say the same for my knee that continues to pop out on a regular basis ever since I tore it playing Bat Tennis one lunch time about 40 years ago. I could probably have a knee reconstruction but that is another story that is not likely to happen. God does still heal today and perform miracles too but not as frequently as in the old days just after Pentecost. Nor were the miracles of the Exodus evident in the Old Testament after Israel settled the Promised Land. The question that inevitably must be asked of every seeker for healing is this: “Are you looking for a god who can heal? Or for the King of Kings who must be Boss in your life? As for me, I want a personal relationship with the Healer. He is my Boss. Sometimes I am slack and let Him down but He knows just how to give me a “wake up call” because He wants me to overcome even more than I.

God's Wake-up Call

Where two or three are gathered in My Name

As I said in chapter 5 The New Testament Pentecost at Jerusalem was time specific to the instituting of the New Testament Bible and the grafting of the Gentiles into the People of God. So Pentecost with its outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Church and the Apostles, came specifically to give them power and authority to speak and act on behalf of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. That time came, was fulfilled, recorded in the New Testament and finally closed with the book of Revelation. The closing of the Book of Revelation marked not only the closing of that book but also the closing of the New Testament and of the Bible itself, all 66 books.

God's Wake-up Call

At the conclusion of Peter's sermon on Pentecost this happened:
Ac 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. 42 ¶ And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.

Note that the “many wonders and signs” were specifically enacted by the Apostles, in fact were a mark of the identification of an apostle as testified by Paul the one Apostle who was born “out of due time:”
2Co 12:11 ¶ I am become a fool in glorying; ye have compelled me: for I ought to have been commended of you: for in nothing am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be nothing. 12 Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.

So the Scriptures teach that signs and wonders were the domain of and identifiers of apostleship.

When we study the history of revivals in the Bible and throughout Church History, unfortunately the invariable pattern is, that after the climax of the initial fervour and excitement there is a seemingly inevitable decline in activity, a cooling off period. It was so in the New Testament Church. By the time Paul was writing to the Corinthian church in his first epistle there had become an imbalance between the Spirit-given gifts and the fruit of the Spirit.
1Cor 12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to

God's Wake-up Call

another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

So Paul teaches:
1Co 13:1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity [i.e. love, the fruit of the Spirit], I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

Preaching a Sermon on the subject of the above two passages at a Pentecostal Bible College brought me into conflict with the faculty, over the issue that the gifts of the Holy Spirit should never be exercised apart from the fruit of the Holy Spirit as per 1Corinthians 13:1. I was told in no uncertain terms that this concept was not Pentecostal doctrine. Unfortunately I had to agree that this was observably the case in most of the Pentecostal Churches and other institutions of which I had first hand knowledge. I began wondering that if the practice of emphasising the gifts at the expense of “CHARITY” [the fruit of the Spirit] was the Charismatic/Pentecostal norm universally, I suspect that it is. Then, where was the Holy Spirit in all this really?? Was the Holy

God's Wake-up Call

Spirit giving out gifts of brass gongs and tinkling cymbals now ? It was much later and after I had sidestepped the many cynical critics, who deride the Charismatic/Pentecostal push, who often throw out the “baby with the bath water,” I suddenly saw the light once more. I can't remember exactly when it happened but the Lord again dropped a note in my spiritual in - box pointing me to 2Thess 2. and one verse in particular jumped out at me.
2Th 2:9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

Just leave out the word “lying” for a moment for emphasis with all power and signs and wonders, and suddenly that phrase takes on significant and powerful overtones. Why I say leave ”lying” out temporarily is because the Bible says these signs and wonders are a delusion sent by God and that means that the observers in the main take these manifestations to be REAL! If you (temporarily) leave out the word lying you get the effect of what is happening TODAY on millions of unsuspecting and often sincere, Charismatic and Pentecostal Church believers who are convinced that they are seeing a revival of Pentecost. Any one who is foolish enough to gainsay the signs and wonders phenomenon is accused of “quenching the Spirit” and is treated as a pariah. On the other hand, THE BIBLE IS SAYING THAT THE

Introduced and powered by the false Christ. “the working of Satan with
all power and signs and lying wonders,”

God's Wake-up Call

2Thess 2 is the only “Pentecostal” type revival mentioned in the Scriptures in the last days. I am not saying that God does not still perform miraculous interventions in the lives of His people I believe I have witnessed miraculous interventions of God, I am saying that now more than ever we must be willing to “try the Spirits of the Prophets whether they be of God.(1Jo 4:1) WE WILL NOT QUENCH THE HOLY SPIRIT WHEN WE ACT IN FAITH AND OBEDIENCE TO GOD'S WORD - AND WE NEED TO QUENCH THE FALSE SPIRIT OF ANTICHRIST.

Those sincere souls who are caught up in this pseudo “Pentecost” will acknowledge that the bizarre behaviours of people like Rodney Howard Brown and the so-called Toronto Blessing are not of God. On the other hand they hold that moderate Pentecostal practices must be genuinely from God because there are many who are being “born-again'' through it. There is an undeniable history of revival in the Pentecostal church. Generally speaking we cannot judge individuals concerning the genuineness of their conversion experience but to those of us who have escaped the Pentecost counterfeit, it is obvious that there are countless numbers of people who once manifested all the signs and gifts, many, even leaders of youth, pastors and teachers who now are deeply into the world again and far away from God. It is true that there are masses of “drop–outs” in conventional evangelical churches too, I just point out that great numbers joining membership of any church is not a measure of its success nor are the numbers who drop out a measure of failure. God alone will

God's Wake-up Call

measure the success or failure of the individual lives of His churches and people (Ro 14:10 ; 2Co 5:10)
Jehovah's Witnesses and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, regarded by many Christians as cults, reported the largest membership increases in a year, according to the National Council of Churches' 2008 Yearbook of American & Canadian Churches. Although Jehovah's Witnesses currently rank 25th in size with over 1.06 million members, they reported a 2.25 percent increase in membership since the publication of the 2007 Yearbook. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – also known as the Mormon church – grew 1.56 percent and is listed by the NCC as the fourth largest “church.” http://www.christianpost.com/article/20080220/jehovah-s-witnessesmormons-fastest-growing-churches-in-u-s/

There used to be an advertisement that said “(X no.) of people smoke Kent,” the inference being that this great number was naturally an endorsement, however the same percentage of “Kent smokers” died as a result of smoking as any who smoked other brands.

Many times over the years neighbouring pastors or pastors from the same denomination would in conversation ask “How many do you have attending now?” followed by a brag report of the way their church was bursting at the seams. One Alliance Pastor I knew, used to count “babies in wombs” and enter them into his weekly statistical count (I lie not). The only statistics that count are those entered by the angels into the Lambs book of Life. In that book God has been counting and recording from the beginning of time (Re 17:8). The statistics are not going to be read at any Annual General Meeting of any Church, Fellowship or Cult.

God's Wake-up Call

1Sa 14:6 And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few. 7 And his armourbearer said unto him, Do all that is in thine heart: turn thee; behold, I am with thee according to thy heart. 8 Then said Jonathan, Behold, we will pass over unto these men, and we will discover ourselves unto them. 9 If they say thus unto us, Tarry until we come to you; then we will stand still in our place, and will not go up unto them. 10 But if they say thus, Come up unto us; then we will go up: for the LORD hath delivered them into our hand: and this shall be a sign unto us. 11 And both of them discovered themselves unto the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves. 12 And the men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armourbearer, and said, Come up to us, and we will shew you a thing. And Jonathan said unto his armourbearer, Come up after me: for the LORD hath delivered them into the hand of Israel. 13 And Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armourbearer after him: and they fell before Jonathan; and his armourbearer slew after him. 14 And that first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armourbearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were an half acre of land, which a yoke of oxen might plow.

As the story unfolds we see that the end result of that small act of faith and bravery resulted in the defeat of the Philistines and the turning of the tide in the battle:
1Sa 14:15 And there was trembling in the host, in the field, and among all the people: the garrison, and the spoilers, they also trembled, and the earth quaked: so it was a very great trembling. 16 ¶ And the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked; and, behold, the multitude melted away, and they went on beating down one another.

If we can just discover God's will for any given situation He will

God's Wake-up Call

reveal Himself in the faith of His people and he will get the glory not the man in white on the stage behind the plexiglass pulpit.

That is the question. If only if we can include “ambition” as one of the prime things we sacrifice on the altar of commitment to His will, as we take up our cross daily and follow Him.

Others will just float along in the Pentecostal stream, ignoring the promptings they receive from God from time to time until the disaster of 2Thessalonians happens That they all might be damned who
believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. (2 Thess 2:12)

Before you allow that word “unrighteousness” snatch your attention away pause to remember that there is religious unrighteousness that is just as lethal as the “filthy” kind. Don't think it applies? Then check out these verses:
2Pet 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: 10 ¶ But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. 11 Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord. 12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; 13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; 14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices;

God's Wake-up Call

cursed children: 15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man’s voice forbad the madness of the prophet. 17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever. 18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. 20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
Matt 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied [ie preached] in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Those who are finally rejected must have had many opportunities to repent of their religious sins because 2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack
concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to usward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

But if it is hard to repent of filthy sin it is doubly hard to repent of religious sin. Because we are convinced we are righteous when we are not!

God's Wake-up Call

Apart from peer pressure, there is also spiritual pride. Who wants to admit that what they assumed was the leading of the Holy Spirit was a false spirit? When I had to repent of religious error such as this; encountered, check the list: this is what I

I confess a lack of discernment Lord – I freely admit I have been ruled by a religious spirit. I confess to a lack of knowing the teaching of the Apostles in the New Testament Word of God. I confess to putting more faith and trust in the testimonies of liars and fakers than in the truth of Scripture. When I was challenged by discerning believers I doubted them because I thought they didn't have the “juice.” In all these things I had some misgivings. The Holy Spirit was bringing to mind doubts I thought were unfaithful Spirit quenchers sometimes even through Scripture, but I resisted because: I wanted to have the “juice” myself so I would belong to the “powerful” (dunamis) group. I wanted to heal people even to be able to raise them from the dead (which I never could.) I was willing to give Jesus all the glory just so it would happen under my hands. (That is not giving Him the glory by the way.) I saw pastors lying when they prophesied, I knew they had been given the information before the service and I said nothing. Please forgive me and cleanse me from all unrighteousness according

God's Wake-up Call

to your precious promise in 1John 19. And Ps 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
There is much more and I am ashamed to admit this much publicly, but I began to write this book in order to help others who might just relate to the things I have been through to find their way out of condemnation into His marvellous cleansing light of forgiveness. I have come to the place in my spiritual life that I only care what the Lord Jesus thinks of me and will do anything to please Him, just to hear Him say “well done thou good and faithful servant.” I fear because I might not hear these words. But again I am reassured by God's Word in Romans 8:
Ro 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

God's Wake-up Call

It seems to me that whether it be the Old Testament Church or the New Testament Church the one enduring quality of the Church is for losing its way and the enduring quality of the Great Shepherd is for seeking and finding the lost, bringing them back and bringing about His plan of salvation, despite our “help.” Mt 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Mt 16:13 ¶ When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. 15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon

God's Wake-up Call

Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. 20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ. 21 ¶ From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.

Verse 21 is one of the earliest hints at the New Testament “Gospel” which Paul would give to us precisely and concisely in 1Corinthians 15:1-4 the key words of which are “died for our sins; buried; raised the third day” This was the crucial Gospel Paul was always emphasising without which our faith is groundless and dead. Once you realise the theology of this statement you can see why the four books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are called Gospels. More of that another time another place. Back to Jesus' challenge to the disciples in Matthew 16:13-21 (above). Without going into the Greek words for “big rock and little rock” which do point out that Jesus was not referring to Peter when He said “Upon this Rock will I build my Church.” He was undoubtedly pointing to Himself and a careful reading of the syntax of the context show this without even reading the Greek see this:
Matt 16:13 ¶ When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. 15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ , the Son of the living God.

God's Wake-up Call

17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Paul absolutely understood this when he said:
1Co 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: f or they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

This reference of Paul shows that Christ the Rock was there before Peter came on the scene and this we can show from the Scriptures, that the Church was around before Peter and after the rapture. We can make a good case for the fact that, in God's economy the Church pre-dates the New Testament and in fact transcends it. This is a mind-boggling concept and because it is true it has far reaching ramifications for the understanding of the mind of God in relation to His People and the identity of the Bride of Christ. What does Scripture teach?

While we have in the Bible, only a sketchy record of the doctrine actually taught to Adam and Eve, we have nevertheless, some startling clues given to us in the inspired word. For instance in Hebrews:
Heb 11:4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying

God's Wake-up Call

of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

Our “evolution mentality” hinders us from the obvious, as usual. Adam and Eve learned under God's tutelage before the fall. They were created perfect, we have to believe that that included their brain and intellect. This had to mean that they would have been taught by God all the things necessary for them to understand such issues as the difference between clean and unclean beasts see Ge 7:2. When God found them out in sin, he killed animals and made for them coverings for their shame. I can't believe that God would provide them “crudely designed and made clothing.” Up to His usual standard it would have been excellently tailored (perfect) as the story of vicarious suffering that went with the exercise and the explanation from the Lord God of the the whole analogy. While we are on this train of thought I must mention that, subsequently, though clothing may not have been up to the standard of the clothes God made, given that men and women were perfect in the beginning the clothes which they subsequently made were not of the Freddy Flintstone variety. They would almost certainly have been copies copies of those they had watched the Lord God Jehovah, Jesus in the O.T. make for them.(see John 1:1) When it came to understanding the difference between a sacrifice of blood and one of “works,” Cain was without excuse. The principles detailed later in Leviticus must have been imparted to Cain and Abel for God to hold them responsible in the matter of sacrifice :
Le 17:10 ¶ And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the

God's Wake-up Call

strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people. 11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. Heb 11:4 ¶ By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain,
by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

What ever the medical answer to this question of the blood and life, God reveals the way He sees it as an analogy. The role of blood in relation to life is readily observed without a degree in science. It is simple, take out the blood and the body (animal or human) dies. So it is easy for us to see the “spiritual” or analogous meaning here. God made blood “taboo” BECAUSE OF THE SIGNIFICANCE OF BLOOD IN SACRIFICE. And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. (Heb 9:22) Cain's affront to God was in his attitude that said “I can do it without a substitionary death, without blood in effect a rejection of the Messiah who would come and shed His blood for sinners.” unbelievers have been making this same statement ever since Cain!

Without going back there in a “time machine” we will never exactly know. Any way, the Bible gives us all the information we need to make an intelligent faith commitment in our day. We can see through Bible evidence, that knowledge of the resurrection was known long before it was preached as a doctrine in

God's Wake-up Call

the New Testament.
Job 19:23 ¶ Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book! 24 That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever! 25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: 26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: 27 Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.

No one seems to be able to offer a secure date for the writing of this book of Job but nearly everyone agrees that it is one of the oldest if not the oldest book of the Bible. One of the indicators of this is the reference to Behemoth whom Creationists believe to be a dinosaur.
Job 40:15 ¶ Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. 16 Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. 17 He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. 18 His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron. 19 He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.

We can affirm from this sketchy record that the patriarchs knew not only about God's plan of redemption through blood but also that the purpose of that redemption was the restoration of man to resurrection and fellowship with God in eternity. The Psalmist dazzles us with prophetic understanding when he says:
Ps 16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Ps 49:9 That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption. [compare Ac 2:27; Ac 2:31; Ac 13:35 ]

God's Wake-up Call

It is undeniable that the resurrection of Jesus as the first fruits and then we at His coming are an integral and indispensable element of the new birth of the believer not to mention the Father's begetting of the Son. (1Cor 15:20-23.) This concept brought a whole new understanding of truth to me.
[I.e the Day Jesus was raised up He was begotten of God] Heb 1:5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? 1Co 15:20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 1Co 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.

So the Bible is teaching us, in these passages, that no one is “born again” or “born from above” until the resurrection except as we possess it in prospect, by faith alone, in God and God's word. The Holy Spirit was freed to come to the earthly Tabernacle of Christ (the believer's body), once Christ had offered His blood on the mercy seat in Heaven. Then He who was with us (and with all the Old Testament saints) began to dwell in us.
Joh 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

God's Wake-up Call

On the same basis Paradise where Jesus visited the Old Testament saints and preached during His time in Sheol was released to the Heaven of God. (This may explain Mt 27:52 )
1Pet:3:18 ¶ For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: 19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; 20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

This passage lays down in no uncertain terms for Hebrew and Gentile believer alike the impact of the statement: But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Heb 11:6) From the year 0000 to 2011 when these words were being written this has been so.
Lu 1:67 ¶ And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying, 68 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people, 69 And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David; 70 As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began: 71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; 72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; 73 The oath which he sware to our father Abraham, 74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the

God's Wake-up Call

hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, 75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life. 76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; 77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, 78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, 79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. 80 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel. 2Co 1:20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

The old Covenant initially given to Eve Ge3:15 and reiterated to Abraham Ge 28:14 was made sure by the promises of God Heb 6:1620 until the New Covenant came in Jesus' Blood and later sealed with the “down payment “ of the Holy Spirit. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Eph 1:13 To sum up the substance of this chapter, the mystical Church, the real church of the Lord Jesus which is built on the Rock which is Christ, spans the whole of human history from Abel to the end of time. Read Revelation Chapter 21. Excerpts are given below:
Rev. 21:9 ¶ And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife. 10....the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, 12 And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:

God's Wake-up Call

14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. 22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. 23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. 24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. 25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. 26 And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it. 27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

This doctrinal scenario does not seem to fit into any church's doctrinal pattern. It could mean that this notion is heretical or on the other hand it could mean that the churches “by and large” have missed it. Here I go isolating myself again because where ever I have served in churches previously and have not fallen in with their traditional doctrines I have (pardon my French) received the “bums rush.” Seat of the pants, nape of the neck and oooout... the door. I can't help that If I am following truth I am prepared to “wear it.” Any way I am 75 yrs old now, my wife has gone to her reward and I hear the Lord knocking ever so gently on my door. My ambition is melted away except for the ambition to be faithful to the Truth capital “T” to the end of this life. I am amenable to correction, but only from the Word of God, and not by “private translators (interpreters).” If you love me though and you think I am wrong tell me but if what you say is unscriptural you will pardon me if I laugh won't you? Because “I've been there dun that took the tour bought the tee shirt... definitely

God's Wake-up Call

don't want take up the offer to do it again!” “I'll follow Jesus no turning back, no turning back”

God's Wake-up Call

Strong Delusion
Chapter 10 GOD WILL SEND WHAT???
2Thess 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion , that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

When I first started studying and meditating on this passage of scripture I erroneously read into the text a definite article, now I see it is not “a” strong delusion but strong delusion which gives this verse a wider application than just one aspect.

God's Wake-up Call

There is a precedent for God sending out deluding, deceiving and lying spirits see:
1Ki 22:22 And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets . And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so. 23 Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee. [See also the same story in 2Ch 18:21, 22]

Notice that God doesn't just put a lying spirit in the mouth of one of Ahab's prophets but he put a lying spirit in all of the prophets' mouths so that wherever Ahab turns for advice that advice is lying counsel across the board. So it is today wherever the believer turns for advice all the modern Bibles give the same lying story on the important issues. Of course there is the King James – but our contemporaries laugh us to scorn if we say that it is a better translation. But horror of horrors should we believe that God has preserved it in its coming to us, the shrieks of “Heresy!! Heresy!!” are deafening and we are sent to Coventry forthwith!! If popular opinion tells us that the Bible is hard to understand it must be so. We drop the Old fashioned in favour of a bible that doesn't have those confusing “thees” and “thous” and ancient words. We drop it for one that doesn't say God is Three Persons, any way doctrine isn't as important as fellowship – a church that is “loving” and isn't always making me feel guilty because we lived together before marriage. It is too hard reading the Bible and actually learning what it has said. And it is even harder learning all that stuff that teaches about how we actually got the Bible – too hard to understand and too confusing.

God's Wake-up Call

One young man when I had finished explaining to him at length, my conviction that the enemy was at the root of all this. His retort was “I will just pray against Satan and keep reading my NIV.” I was “gob smacked” - but I will let you, my reader, work out what is wrong with his statement. But God says
2Thess 2:10….because they received not the love of the truth , that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth , but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

There was a day like this one when after Noah had preached exhaustively to the ancient world God brought the flood and that world was damned:
2Pe 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; 5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

For all of Noah's preaching the people of that day refused the love of the truth:
Mat 24:37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

God's Wake-up Call

What will you answer Him when He arrives ? Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? (Mt 7:22) They could not say back then, Noah never told us! Those who read this will not be able to say Michael never told me. I don't doubt that there will be many a hurt surprised look turning to horror on the faces of those preachers and teachers who, when the One they thought was their Saviour and Lord, abandons them to damnation. I have taken folks through this scenario as we talked together. I watched their faces as the significance of all these things slowly sank in to their understanding. Then afterwards they turn to me and say, “But if I believe that I will lose my ministry!” And 'there's the rub,” as Shakespeare would say. We are prepared to jeopardise our own salvation for the sake of being a ”big shot” - or even a “little shot” in a Laodicean Church. A Laodicean Church is one where the Lord is outside knocking to come in, to ANY man (Rev 3:20). But there is more to reckon with than just the new bibles kicking sand in our eyes so we cannot recognise the deceiving spirits that are abroad. I must spend some time, to review some of the other aspects of delusion before I finish this. WE ARE OVERWHELMED BY BIBLE PROPHESY TEACHERS WHO GUESS!

God's Wake-up Call

How do I know? Because there are hundreds of Bible Prophesy teachers all have a different interpretation of the interpretation. Many of them are adamant that their scenario is infallible. (Of course there are some that are not so intransigent and hold the timing loosely) but many speak unequivocally about their views and brook no argument. THEY CAN'T ALL BE RIGHT. That is why I say those that hold those un- alterable views are largely guessing. As we get nearer to the Lord's return the temptation is ever present to guess. We can only depend on what the Bible clearly says will happen and we should always say right out “this is a guess” when we are guessing. In the passage in 2Thessalonians 2 Paul speaks about the timing of Jesus
return. No not the day or hour but an event which will take place first. 2Thessalonians 2:2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 3 ¶ Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

A pastor I know repeatedly comes back to 2Thessalonians 2:4 and applies it analogously in the sense that the body of the Believer is the Temple of God – and allegorically this is true. He shows the Antichrist, the king of fallen angels and demons as usurping the place of the Holy Spirit representing himself as God in the temple of the Holy Spirit – the body of the believer.

God's Wake-up Call

In a sense he does , yet there is a problem with that. Much as Satan would like to do that, to carry this out he would have to be omnipresent. “Now I could be wrong but I don't think so” as the song goes. Certainly Satan tries to give the impression of omnipresence by using demons vicariously representing him in multitudes of people. But no! I really understand this passage in 2Thessalonians 2 as being more literal than that. Paul is answering the churches' question relating to whether the Lord had returned yet already. It was a question regarding a literal return they had been told to watch for and Paul says one of the indicators that the Lord had not literally returned was that:
...that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

If our N.T. dateline in chapter 4 is correct this Epistle to Thessalonians was written ten years before Titus laid siege to Jerusalem and destroyed the Temple. But today the Temple has been gone and replaced by the Mosque since the late 600s.
The Dome of the Rock is located at the visual center of a platform known as the Temple Mount. It was constructed on the site of the Second Jewish Temple,[citation needed] which was destroyed during the Roman Siege of Jerusalem in 70 CE. In 637 CE, Jerusalem was conquered by the Rashidun Caliphate army during the Muslim conquest of Syria. The Dome of the Rock was erected between 689 and 691 CE. The names of the two engineers in charge of the project are given as: Yazid Ibn Salam from Jerusalem and Raja Ibn Haywah from Baysan. Umayyad Caliph Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan who initiated construction of the Dome, hoped that it would “house the Muslims from cold and heat”[1] and intended the building to serve as a shrine for pilgrims and not as a mosque for public

God's Wake-up Call

worship.[2] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dome_of_the_Rock#History

If the passage in 2 Thessalonians 2 speaks literally (I believe it does) then we will need to see the rebuilding of the Temple before the Antichrist can desecrate it. Compare Da 12:11
Da 12:11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. [3.5833yr]

Daily sacrifices have to be re-established for this event to take place and logically the Temple first must be rebuilt since in the Jewish order of things, sacrifice was only carried out in the Temple forecourt. All this must happen before we panic about whether the Lord has returned already. Of course there is still the question of whether the rapture takes place before or during Jesus' “Second Coming” a question we will attempt to answer in another writing if the Lord wills and spares me for the exercise. But know this, in anticipation of that day the question of the Lord's return centres around Israel.
Ezek 36:17 Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their own way and by their doings: their way was before me as the uncleanness of a removed woman. 18 Wherefore I poured my fury upon them for the blood that they had shed upon the land, and for their idols wherewith they had polluted it: 19 And I scattered them among the heathen, and they were dispersed through the countries: according to their way and according to their doings I judged them. 20 And when they entered unto the heathen, whither they went, they profaned my holy name, when they said to them, These are the people of the LORD, and are gone forth out of his land.

God's Wake-up Call

21 But I had pity for mine holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the heathen, whither they went. 22 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name’s sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went. 23 And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes. 25 ¶ Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. 26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. 28 And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God. 29 I will also save you from all your uncleannesses: and I will call for the corn, and will increase it, and lay no famine upon you. 30 And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye shall receive no more reproach of famine among the heathen. 31 Then shall ye remember your own evil ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations. 32 Not for your sakes do I this, saith the Lord GOD, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house of Israel. 33 Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day that I shall have cleansed you from all your iniquities I will also cause you to dwell in the cities, and the wastes shall be builded. 34 And the desolate land shall be tilled, whereas it lay desolate in the sight of all that passed by. 35 And they shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are become fenced, and are inhabited. 36 Then the heathen that are left round about you shall know that I the LORD build the ruined places, and plant that that was desolate: I the LORD have spoken it, and I will do it. 37 Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will yet for this be enquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them; I will increase them with men like a flock. 38 As the holy flock, as the flock of Jerusalem in her solemn feasts; so

God's Wake-up Call

shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men: and they shall know that I am the LORD.

Read more of the restoration of Israel in Ezekiel chapters 37-48 Then read Zechariah:
Zec 12:9 ¶ And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. 10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. 11 In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon. Mt 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. Zech 6 thru 14 Zec 12:10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. Even so come quickly Lord Jesus!

God's Wake-up Call

“Not aware what's coming after...”

The question is not will you be ready for the second coming of Christ, but are you ready for His coming for you? Since you began to read this book many un-prepared believers have been taken unawares to eternity. I want to see you in heaven.

God's Wake-up Call

Step One: Forget everything you learned about “old fashioned bibles” and religion. Step Two: Pray and ask God to forgive you and cleanse you from sin, for trying to “have your cake and eat it too.” For some this means trying to live as a Christian without totally letting go of the world (sin and religion)... you have to BE a Christian. You can't do that unless God gives you a “new heart.” It is a God gift Eze 18:31 Eze 36:26. (see also 1Sa 10:9; Ps 51:10) Step Three: Pray and give everything (as a living sacrifice) to God, material things, relationships – good and who haven't arrived at this “place” yet (i.e. your “Christian” ministry). Everything! If you do this, you are bound to lose everything you treasure like the rich young ruler (Lu 18:23, ) but you will have won Christ – absolutely. Step Four: Find a place of fellowship. It is almost impossible today to find a fellowship or church that would agree with all the principles taught in this Book. Pray until the Lord shows you what to do. place. Step Five: Find a website that teaches from the KJV. Be wary because there are some nasty, vitriolic, Pharisaical, religious people out there, who have discovered the KJV is a solid club they can whack people with, to hurt, damage and cripple unsuspecting, gentle Christians in an effort to please their father the devil (Joh 8:42-45.) Genuine Christians are loving, really loving, they will put your interests and well being first. http://visitbethelchurch.com/ http://www.kingjamescode.com/ http://www.biblebelievers.com/churches/ Or email me and mention God's Wake-up Call michael@tacsigns.com
