Digital Convergence The article discussed how digital convergence emerged from throughout the years because of digitalization. In the past we relied on technologies that were no interoperable and were slow to accept by the social public. Information Systems plays a big role in the digitization and convergence because of how it affects both the technological view and social view. Some examples of the divergence include transitioning from analog to digital. Information systems had to be able to do both analog and digital until everything can be moved to digital. As the years past, more interoperability and changes in technology will continue to happen. Digital convergence refers to how technology changes the way people do business faster and more efficient. Information technology, telecommunication, electronics, and entertainment all fall under digital convergence because of how society accepted sharing information and accessing data through networks. Each type of data is standardized in order to operate and talk to each other. Laptops, Ipads, and smart phones were a huge part of the convergence. The technical infrastructures changed in order to combine both the technology and behaviorists perspectives to combine. The social infrastructure relies on the data and interoperability of different technologies used on the same network on the web. IP networks are a part of digitalization because it is a converged network that created the ability to have more than one system communicates with each other. Digital convergence was important to society to accept and adapt to because of the fast changing technological world that we live in today. Digital divergence was something that needed to be stirred away from which is the reason why Information Systems is becoming more and more popular. In history, technology infrastructure focused more on the technical aspects for technical savvy people who understood the functions and were able to learn them. In todays society, technical is moving towards designing systems

around the social perspective. Interoperability between those systems is growing larger because it is now a necessity in the digital age. Analog technologies were only able to last for so long because of the limited capabilities. Analog information worked through cables and circuits that allowed information to be transmitted. The infrastructures were only limited to their own and could not configured with other type of infrastructure which caused a barrier in sharing information and interoperability. The social infrastructure expanded the need of technology to digitalization to move across other infrastructures. Examples of analog information discussed were used in cassette tapes, AM/FM radio, books, video cassettes, and books. The digital convergence resulted in the big leap in technology that utilized networks and wireless technology. The information systems field has been researched and studied to relate both business and technology to work together and understand useful information. The socio-technical perspective helps designers and consumers know what they want and need with their technology. The behaviorists tend to accept technology by how the experience is using the technology where a technology savvy person will only appreciate the functions and how it is built. The sociotechnical is becoming for common in the new technology today such as tablets, smart phones, and net books. The infrastructure of the technology relies on the social needs of the consumers. No one really wants to know the design or how it is developed but how it can improve a process and at the same time make the person feel good utilizing it. The diverse system was a barrier years ago and can still be a barrier because digitalization is still being accepted in society. The barrier nowadays is the diverse consumers that view technology in different perspectives. Rather than trying to please the majority, organizations such as Apple build their products around user interface that is easiest to use. Other organizations would design their products on the functions

that need to be done. In the future, more flexibility in technology will develop more and more based on the society and not the systems needs. The digital convergence will become more common because of its flexibility and the utilization of sharing how information is stored and transmitted. Digitizing defines the technical perspective in formatting where digitization refers to how both technical and behaviorist perspectives are viewed. The socio technical consumers will respond more when technology has the capability to talk or communicate with different types of platforms or standards. Although technology standards differ from other standards, it will be more manageable to process and store data within the same standards. Digital convergence is going to continue to converge and become standardized infrastructures that can communicate with multiple types of software and devices. Technology is continuing to become more flexible in their design of their infrastructure to store data and interact with consumers. Examples of the flexibility include apps and social media sites that give the consumers the capability to communicate and store data on the same network without the need of permissions or special security. The digital convergence is going far beyond the analog and digitizing of physical infrastructures.
