Stage 1 Desired Results Content Standard(s): MA2A1. Students will explore exponential functions. d. Solve simple exponential equations and inequalities analytically, graphically, and by using appropriate technology. Understanding (s)/goals Students will understand: The students will understand the key concepts of solving exponential equations and inequalities in order to understand graphs. The students will understand how to solve exponential functions when using geometric sequencing. The students will understand key vocabulary terms related specifically to the lesson of solving equations. Essential Question(s): How do I solve exponential equations and inequalities?

(explanation) The teacher will go over the activating strategy and describe how numbers can be rewritten in exponential form. (explanation) The teacher will start notes for solving exponential equations, using a the Steps for Solving Exponential Equations guided notes. The teacher will discuss when bases are the same, not the same, the steps and order in which the equation must be solved. The teacher will work two examples on the guided notes. (application, interpretation, perspective, and self-knowledge) The teacher will begin the Think, Pair, Share discussion activity. Discuss with a partner the steps to take when solving an exponential equation. This activity will be used for students to work together to solve 4 equations during the lesson. (explanation, interpretation, and self-knowledge) Teacher and students will go over the 4 problems with the entire class for all students to check their work. Teacher will ask if there are any questions. (application, self-knowledge, and interpretation) Teacher will give the students a worksheet on solving exponential equations. (empathy and interpretation) Teacher will check for understanding by asking questions throughout the lesson and a Ticket out the Door (TOTD).
