wasn’t really expecting much, but this has been so inspirational and motivational.” “My wife made me come because she hadn’t been here before. I’d been putting her off for the last 20 or more years – but I’m so glad we came.” “We just wanted to visit Delhi, do some shopping, meet some friends. This was a good way to get here because obtaining a visa is so difficult. But the meeting was beyond our expectations. We hope the momentum continues.” These are just a few representative comments by Pakistani delegates attending the Aman ki Asha Business Meet in New Delhi, May 18-19, ‘Partners for Peace and Progress’. Many were taken aback by the genuinely open and warm welcome from the Indian business community, not to mention the Times of India Group, which they clearly did not expect. The meeting got an un-
precedented boost with the presence of Pranab Mukherjee, India’s Finance Minister who addressed the inaugural session with a particularly a warm welcome to the Pakistani guests. “The sky is the limit,” he said, expressing his hopes for peace between the two countries. His views were shared by Shahid Malik, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Delhi, who not only addressed the inaugural session but attended almost all of the two-day meetings. We have already reported much of what transpired at the meetings and on the sidelines (compiled at www.amankiasha.com). Given that a picture is worth a thousand words, we present you with this special pictorial two-page edition to bring across the flavour of the conference (look out for another instalment soon).
