Business is Mobile
According to a survey conducted by the German Federal Association for Information Technology, Telecommu ni cations and New Media (BITKOM), almost 40% of all Germans aged 14 and above now have a mobile tele phone controlled by a touch-sensitive screen. And when it comes to the under-30s, the figure is around 66%. At the time of the study around 70% of all mobile phones sold were smartphones. The demand for tablet computers is also continuing to grow strongly and sales in Germany are forecast to reach the 5-million mark in 2013. Altogether 4.4 million flatscreen computers with touchscreen display were sold in 2012. Tablets are used primarily for games, online shopping, visiting social networks, reading newspapers and magazines and surfing as a second screen while watching TV. Recent figures give clear evidence that apps are particularly important when it comes to the mobile Internet. Over 21 million Germans currently use these little programs on their mobile devices twice the number compared to 2010. On average each smartphone user has installed 23 apps and one in seven (14%) has more than 40 mobile apps.

Mobile Internet applications are now an integral part of our everyday personal and professional lives. This has resulted in new business models that require innovative solutions and that are becoming increasingly important in the corporate value chain. At M-Days, which takes place on 13 and 14 May 2014 in Hall 11 of Messe Frankfurt, exhibitors have the opportunity to meet decision makers keen to make the organisational and communication processes in their companies fit for mobile business. The 9th edition of M-Days consists of an informative exhibition with five integrated conference platforms, each of which hosts an expert forum on the five core areas: Strategy, Commerce, Enterprise, Marketing and Media. This meshing of exhibition and content, comprising theme-specific forums, workshops and discussion panels, is essential for the establishment of the event. It is a user-oriented fair at which visitors discover practicerelated content at the various talks and can then seek out the relevant companies at the exhibition to find answers to their specific questions.
The focus of M-Days is on communication, which finds expression in the generous hall layout, the unique exhibitors and conference forums, a wide-ranging supporting programme of events, a large restaurant and bar area as well as an evening entertainment.

Mobile Strategy
Mobile technologies have increasingly entered the worlds of business and research as well as our personal lives since the turn of the millennium. With his call for a Mobile First! strategy in 2010, Google boss Eric Schmidt voiced the corporate imperative for unwired business. This new development has now created its own ecosystems and is in the process of fundamentally influencing and changing existing ecosystems in the real world, e.g. forms of distribution and commerce in the consumer goods sector as well as business processes in all conceivable segments of industry. Mobile applications are successfully being used in enterprises to increase efficiency and performance. This involves the management and maintenance of a whole series compliance-related strategic tasks, responsibilities, processes and guidelines. Although the position of Chief Mobile Officer currently exists in only a very few companies, the associated legal and technical aspects alone will make this a necessary component in the structure of many companies in the foreseeable future. Suppliers of strategic corporate solutions, con sul tancy companies as well as standardisation and process optimisation experts will be present at M-Days focusing on the areas of competence, solution finding and the implementation of unwired business solutions.

Mobile Commerce
Mobile commerce has to date been the missing link between the real world of commerce and the online commercial sector. In addition to extending traditional e-commerce to mobile devices, it also builds bridges to the bricks-and-mortar retail trade by enabling new local supply concepts that cannot be realised by virtual shop solutions on the Internet. The Mobile Commerce theme area at M-Days show cases developers, manufacturers, providers and experts who offer the necessary security and reliability for the challenges of mobile commerce, mobile payment and delivery based on technical solutions using modern wireless technologies such as UMTS, LTE, local wireless networks (e.g. WLAN), standards including Bluetooth and RFID as well as Near Field Communication (NFC). Mobile ticketing and mobile banking were two of the original application areas in this sector. In the bricks-and-motor trade (Mobile in Retail) mobile technology delivers sophisticated solutions for physical goods transactions from integrated supply chain solutions, purchasing and goods receipt through to materials management, logistics and extended packaging. Particularly in the bricks-andmortar trade, mobile technology builds additional bridges to the consumer, thereby developing additional sales potentials. M-Days groups together the marketing-oriented aspects of m-commerce in its Mobile Marketing area, e.g. integrated solutions for couponing, QR code activities and other multichannel measures.

Mobile Enterprise
Mobile communications are revolutionising processes in industry, commerce and the service sector. The implementation of mobile processes in the production, distribution and marketing of products and services now enables companies to automate mechanical tasks that previously had to be performed physically. Such M2M (machine-to-machine) solutions between end units, e.g. machinery, vending machines, vehicles and containers etc., or with a central mobile communications control unit can rationalise work processes in all sectors of industry and increase productivity. However, in this world of machinery and technical solutions, the human dimension is still an integral part since effective mobile customer relationship management can enhance customer satisfaction. For instance, in the vending industry some vending machines communicate automatically with a central computer when they need to be restocked and in offices copying machines are able to report when a change of cartridge is required. At M-Days the industry showcases promising solu tions for other areas of application, e.g. trans portation, parcel logistics, fleet management and transport systems (connected cars / automotive), building systems, public utility companies, mobile security and m-health. Lastly, mobile communications naturally cover the entire corporate IT sector. With the current demand for enterprise mobility, CIOs are faced with the challenge of linking all mobile devices rationally into internal processes. Here, M-Days offers the ideal forum for exhibitors from the huge mobile device management sector.

Mobile Marketing
It is only since mobile technologies have been able to provide customers with eye-catching individually tailored products, services, information, incentives and transactions directly to their smartphones or tablets that marketing activities have succeeded in effectively reaching the personal point of sale of the consumer. The rapidly growing market share of the mobile sector in the marketing mix (mobile advertising) confirms this trend. M-Days exhibitors offer the complete spectrum of mobile marketing solutions, including new programs and software for the mobile creation and design of advertising messages on small screens, the programming and marketing of apps and augmented reality applications, customer loyalty programmes and interfaces in classic PR, direct marketing and event formats. The Mobile Marketing theme area at M-Days is showcased primarily by developers and software and marketing experts from the mobile sector and attracts visitors from marketing agencies, consultancy firms and marketing departments of manufacturing and trading organisations. Mobile Marketing is closely linked to the Mobile Commerce area.

Mobile Media
The explosion in the use of smartphones has not only opened up new horizons in marketing for companies and retail organisations. With the introduction of the smartphone and tablet PC, a com munication channel able to trigger revolutionary developments is now available to the world of mass media, i.e. publishing houses and broadcasting organisations/stations. For the first time, the planning departments of publishing and broadcasting organisations are able directly to receive significant, advertising-relevant and therefore existential feedback from enormous numbers of recipients. Also, for the first time since the invention of the television as a mass medium, an innovative channel is available that changes the habits of readers, listeners and viewers in terms of their communication, information, opinion-forming and willingness to buy. The melding of the social, the local and the mobile (SoLoMo) is becoming technologically feasible for the first time and is being used in huge numbers for individual communication. Whereas on the marketing side the expansion of TV content into the digital world (on a second screen) has achieved positive effects and generated initial sales, in the world of print media this development creates the challenge of paid content. In addition to successful app projects, newspaper publishers are currently looking for viable business models to achieve the traditional reader loyality, circulation and advertising spend through mobile content consumption. M-Days exhibitors will be showcasing the mass media added value of mobile communications and the applications and content payment systems of the future, as well as clarifying issues relating to mobile publishing and entertainment for mobile TV, video and radio.
