MMCC Community Insider
A Note from the Executive Director, Donald Bluestone This 2013-2014 program year promises to be one of the best and most exciting here at the Mosholu Montefiore Community Center. We have succeeded in receiving many new grants to improve our programs and offerings. Our Federal Head Start Program, serving three to four-year-olds, has expanded from 51 children to 280 children. Universal Pre-Kindergarten for all four-year-olds, has expanded with three additional full-day classes and five half-day classes. We have converted two classrooms on our first floor to accommodate an increase in demand and serve more Head Start children. We also renovated the Van Cortlandt Jewish Center at 3880 Sedgwick Avenue to open eight additional classrooms for our Child Development Center (CDC). I am thrilled to announce renovations were completed at our beautiful Mosholu Day Camps at Harriman State Park located in Bear Mountain. A new Boys & Girls Club site, featuring an excellent Teen Center, opened its doors in August to serve the Parkchester community. An additional Out-of-School Teens (OST) Programs will commence in November. PS41 on Olinville Avenue and MS 244 The New School for Leadership and the Arts at 231st Street and Sedgwick Avenue will house these new programs. To finalize this winter, MMCC’s Little League will merge with the North Bronx Little League to become the North Bronx/ Mosholu Montefiore Little League. Our newly formed league will gain entry into Little League of America and join its competitors for a remarkable season of baseball. In January, we will open three Cornerstone Youth and Adult Centers at Marble Hill, Boston Secor Houses and Gun Hill Housing Projects. As Executive Director of MMCC for over 24 years, it gives me great pleasure to be part of exciting program initiatives for our community. Mosholu Montefiore Community Center has a special place in my heart. I raised my children here at MMCC. They attended summer camp, after school, Saturday classes and baseball clinics. My oldest son is our summer Day Camp Program Director. MMCC is a part of my heart and soul. Please call us for our new Fall Program Brochure and take advantage of our many programs and services. Sincerely,

The Scoop on “The Moses Project”
The Bronx is home to adults and children with multi-ethnic and multicultural Jewish family ties. For some children, they have no Jewish identification or education although one or both of their parents are Jewish. Introducing “The Moses Project,” a program created in partnership with Bronx House and funded by the UJAFederation of NY. The program focus is on non-religious teaching of Jewish history, culture, stories and traditions. “The Moses Project” involves music and dance, introducing Jewish holiday celebrations to children in a fun, interesting and creative way. It will also involve trips to places of Jewish interest; transportation provided. Family participation is encouraged. The program will meet every other Sunday: • Ages 5 to 8: 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. • Ages 9 to 12: 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Call the location nearest you Locations: Mosholu Montefiore Community Center 3880 Sedgwick Avenue Bronx, NY 10462 718-882-4000 Bronx House 990 Pelham Pkwy South Bronx, NY 10461 718-792-1800
