Athlete Profile: Invited onto the Lincolnshire Elite Athlete Program (LEAP) 20112 and 2013 for Paratriathlon/Para-cycling. I took the decision to switch sports to para-cycling in 2013. I currently selfcoach and self-fund all my competitions and struggle to be able to compete as frequently as I need to in order to showcase my talent. My focus at the moment is on gaining a place on the British Cycling Squad with a view to competing in hand cycling in the Rio 2016 Paralympics. I was lucky to participate in an invitation only International Hand bike Race as part of Prudential Ride London on 3rd August, which was a prestigious event organized as part of the Olympic Legacy. I was nominated by British Cycling to take part. I will be taking part next year. In order to fulfill my ambition to represent GBR on the Para-cycling team for Rio 2016, I need to compete in various competitions in Europe and abroad over the next three years. The annual cost of competing is considerable and I need to look for donations and sponsorship from various sources each season. I also require athlete testing such as VO2 Max, Lactate Threshold, Functional Power etc., to be done at Loughborough University, so that I can tailor my training more appropriately and measure my progress. The European Hand cycle Circuit (EHC) is a series of 8 races in four countries over the summer months in 2014. I also need to compete in at least four UCI European World Cups to improve my world ranking. The European and UCI races are the only avenue to improve my technical cycling ability, learn race

tactics and how to draft other women in my category, as there are so few women competing in the UK. I am currently looking for a major sponsor or sponsors to help with travel, equipment and athlete support expenses for 2014. I estimate that it will cost in excess of £5,000 to compete in the entire EHC circuit of eight races, to cover transport, accommodation, entry fees, and equipment spares and repairs, with a further £2,500 to attend two UCI World Cups and two P1 competitions to improve my world ranking. Support staff, such as Physio and Sports Massage, Nutritionist etc. would cost in the region of £2500 per year. This is in addition to the Athlete testing already mentioned, which is approximately £100 every 2-3 months. I have an idea to get a camper van for 2014, so that travelling with my hand bike in Europe would be more cost effective and easier, rather than breaking my bike down to travel by plane to each event. In return for any sponsorship, I can offer updates to my progress and competition results throughout the year via an emailed newsletter, signed photographs from competitions, a Twitter mention and follow, your company logo on my cycling top (unfortunately not allowed on bike-UCI rules) or van/car, a motivational talk/presentation to staff or at a corporate event, School assembly talk with hand bike and medals, or a Disability/Disability Sport informal talk or chat.
