In this research, we talk about the role of collaborative information technologies (CITs), which is a subset of IT, as a medium through which we would address the larger debate regarding role of IT and its performance. The evidence in the research suggests that It affects productivity but may not affect the profitability, which is a huge concern for the business. So we use CITs which are integrated sets of information processing functions that facilitates sharing and integration of knowledge. We propose that role of CIT can be more clearly understood. The research uses an analytical model through which we can explain why previous researches gave mixed results on impact of IT on performance. Our results help in better understanding of CITs, which in turn helps in understanding IT performance. 2. Following are the key concepts: CIT functionalities, Transactive memory, Team Performance and Collaborator Departure. The CIT functionalities include storage, workflow management, email, IM and file sharing facilities. Organizations CIT as a platform for communication and storage of knowledge. The team performance basically shows the level of effort of the employees and their skills. The Transactive memory is a tool for understanding how knowledge can be used even if there is a situation of collaborator departure. The TMS is used as a mediator to explain the relationship between departure and performance. The departure of a team member can lead to complex problems which affects the team performance.

3. The empirical validation of the conceptual model generates more confidence in it. This conceptual model was compared with many other models and their measurements indicated that this model was the more suitable one. Every model was analyzed and the significance levels, R2 values, with coefficients where recorded and compared with each other. The model-fit for each model was measured. Here to find out whether our model has a better fit with original data than other models, then the model fit indices helps to measure the quality of our model. All these evidences prove that this model is the best fit. 4. In this research, an experiment is performed where 146 students from USA and Canada are recruited. Their age was averagely the same. They were randomly subdivided into 3-member group. The experiment took place in laboratories where the subjects were completely isolated from each other. They couldnt communicate to each other than by using the CIT facilities. In

each round the groups were given tasks which were standard throughout all groups. Then came the departure treatment where a team member left after three rounds, which then forced the left team members to turn to CIT facilities. A post-experiment survey was conducted after the tasks had been completed. These results proved that the model is best fit. 5. Advantages: Accuracy: Ease of measurement: Validate hypothesis/observation /theory

Disadvantages: Huge amount of data required: Complexity: Data processing tools required: Curse of dimensionality

6. Different ways to deal with the shortcomings are: Project scope change Team size Project duration
