The  Good  News  
 

A  Tentative  Deal     has  been  reached.    
A  Memorandum  of  Agreement   between  MCVEA  and  MCVSD   was  signed  on  8/30/12  

What  does  that  mean?  
• NegoPaPons  team  has  agreed  to   terms  for  a  new  contract.   • We  will  explain  it  now,  answer  any   immediate  quesPons.   • Hold  a  Q  &  A  and  raPficaPon  vote   NEXT  Wednesday  @  3:15  pm  at  HTHS    

Contract  Term  7/2011  –  6/2014

Change  #1  

•   Beginning  in  the  2013  –  2014  
school  year  the  school   calendar  shall  be  reduced     from  187  to  186  days.        
(With  some  strings  attached)  

Its  all  in  the  details!  
  The  deal  requires:    
•  Online  Professional  Development.  
•  By  May1st,  Members  will  complete       5  hours  of  district  provided  online   professional  development.       •  If  we  fail  to  meet  the  negotiated  Tive  hours   of  PD,  the  school  year  will  go  back  to  187   days.  

 Change  #2  
Stipend  Compensation….  
  •  SPpends  shall  be  increased  by  2.00%  for     the  2012-­‐2013  school  year  and  by  an   addiPonal  2.00%  for  the  2013-­‐2014  school   year.   Stipend  Language….    
   

•  “While  the  actual  du-es  of  each  s-pend  posi-on   may  differ  depending  on  the  building  in  which  it   occurs,  advisors  shall  not  be  assigned  du1es  that   are  unrelated  to  their  advisorship.”    

 Change  #3   Salary    3.5%  +  3.0%  

  •  TWO  Eighteen  Month  Increments.   •  Members  will  move  two  steps  on  the  guide   in  three  years.  (those  at  the  ‘top’  will   remain  at  the  top).   •  Delayed  implementation  
•  3.5%    December  2011     •  3.0%    January  2013

Not  exactly  
•  We  have  restructured  the  current   guide  from  18  steps  to  16  steps.  

Impact  on  YOU?  
•  At  the  end  of  this  contract  you  will  be   FOUR  STEPS  CLOSER  TO  THE  TOP.  

HOW??  
•  You  will  move  two  steps  and  we  will   remove  two  steps.        2+2  =  4  

Example  Employee   on  Step  7  in  June  2011  
2010  –  11            Step  7              18  steps                11  from  the  top     2011  –  12              Step  8              17  steps                  9  from  the  top     2013  –  14              Step  9              16  steps                  7  from  the  top     The  goal  regarding  steps  is  to  have  as  few  as  possible   and  get  everyone  to  the  top  as  quickly  as  possible.        

Secretaries.  
•  Over  Worked,  and    Under  Paid.   •  Secretaries  will  move  2  steps  on  the  guide     •  Enjoy  the  reduced  school  year     And   •  We’ve  negoPated  a  3rd  increment     for  the  22  secretaries.   Totaling  an  extra  .5%     of  their  guide.

Times  MUST    Change    

Our  NEXT  round  of  negotiations  will  begin  in   13  months,  if  we  do  not  set  a  new  tone,  we’ll   Tind  ourselves  in  the  same  situation.  

Set  a  NEW  Tone  
WORK  TO  THE  CONTRACT.  
•  By  doing  the  ‘extras’  for  free,  our  ability  to   bargain  them  is  eliminated.  

STOP  VOLUNTEERING  FOR  COMMITTEES.    
•  Middle  States,  Blue  Ribbon,  you  will  be  paid  if  we   stop  volunteering.  

DON’T  ADD  EXTRA  DUTIES  TO  YOUR  STIPEND   •  By  doing  so,  you  create  a  practice  which  will   impact  advisors  at  other  schools.
