Kids in our school garden programs will be celebrating Food Day during the week of October 21 with "Tastes From the Garden" Education Curriculum. We will feature freshly harvested and foraged fall vegetables in simple and easy to prepare recipes. We invite you to celebrate with us! Food Day is a nationwide celebration of healthy, affordable and sustainably produced food and a grassroots campaign for better food policies. Join HISD's own Food Revolution Hero Kellie Alcorn-Karavias& garden educators across the nation! Head to our Urban Harvest Farmers Markets to prepare healthy recipes with local seasonal produce. Community Gardeners, come join us for the 2013 Harvest Celebration! Alabama Community Garden will be cooking up some chicken and fish so bring a side or dessert to share. There will be plants, bulbs and seeds to giveaway. If you can, please bring some of your favorite varieties to swap. In an effort to waste less, this year we are encouraging guests to bring their own silverware, plate, and cup. Those who do will receive an extra raffle ticket! Take advantage of this great Autumn weather and get outdoors via a day trip to one of our Urban Harvest Farmers Market farms. Take a look at this recent ABC-13 segment filmed at Wood Duck Farm Fall Festival Video. Less than 50 miles from downtown Houston, Wood Duck Farm is nestled in the piney woods just north of Kingwood. This 87-acre working farm grows produce for Houston area restaurants as well as Whole Foods. The Fall Festival is every Saturday (10am-6pm) and Sunday (noon-5pm) in October.
