General
Notes
Always back up each project before opening it in a new release. KINGDOM 8.5 is available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions: o o The 32-bit version will hereafter be referred to as The KINGDOM Software 32-bit or KINGDOM-32." The 64-bit version will hereafter be referred to as The KINGDOM Software 64-bit or KINGDOM-64."

Microsoft does not provide a version of Access that is compatible with 64-bit applications. For this reason, KINGDOM-64 requires the use of a SQL Server Express, SQL Server, or Oracle database. For more details see the SMT Planning Guide v8.5, available on the View Resources tab of the Installation Manager. The Planning Guide is also included as a section in the Installation Guide.

KINGDOM-32 and KINGDOM-64 can run standalone on a 64-bit system running Windows XP Professional or Windows Vista with a USB sentinel plug. Parallel port sentinel plugs are not supported on this platform. Contact your marketing representative at 713-464-6188 or sales@seismicmicro.com if you need a USB plug. KINGDOM 8.5 utilizes the latest Microsoft technology and requires Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1, which will be automatically installed during the KINGDOM installation if not already installed.

Compatibility
KINGDOM 8.5 will not install on: o Windows XP unless Service Pack 2 or later has been installed. o Windows 2000. Users may see error 19 while applying Web Feature Keys when running KINGDOM for the first time with a standalone license on Vista. This can happen when Vista's User Account Control (UAC) is turned on. The default for UAC is enabled. The workaround is to use the right mouse button menu option "Run As Administrator" when starting KINGDOM the first time. SQL Server Users please note: KINGDOM GeoModeling requires SQL Server 2005 SP3 or SQL Server Express 2005 SP3

Oracle Users
KINGDOM is certified on Oracle versions 8.x through 10g. KINGDOM version 8.5 requires Oracle users to have CREATE VIEW System Privileges. Your Oracle DBA may need to add this privilege for each Oracle user before you can open or create KINGDOM projects. Some versions of Oracle do not work with applications installed in directories that contain parentheses. If you are using Oracle as your KINGDOM project database and you are installing KINGDOM 32-bit on a 64-bit operating system, you will need to do one of the following: o Install KINGDOM in a folder without parentheses. (e.g. C:\KingdomSuite). o Install a version of Oracle that does work with parentheses or install patch 5059238 for Oracle client 10.2.

SQL Server Express Users

If you install and run SQL Server Express on the same machine as KINGDOM, we recommend Windows XP Professional x64 Edition SP2 or Windows Vista 64 SP1 on a workstation with a minimum of 4 GB of physical memory. Also note that performance can be substantially improved for large projects by adding additional RAM. KINGDOM 8.0 and prior cannot open SQL Server Express projects. After a project is converted to SQL Server Express, only KINGDOM 8.1 and later can open the project.

Access to SQL Server Express Migration in a Multi-user Environment If multiple users are going to access the SQL Server Express projects, you should install SQL Server Express on a network accessible machine. You cannot specify to install SQL Server Express on a different machine than the one you are logged into. Determine the machine to house SQL Server Express, and install the application from that machine with the SMT Installation Manager on the KINGDOM Software DVD or from the downloaded installer.

If you are using the XP look and feel, please review the Microsoft discussion at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=319740#kb4. Follow these steps to adjust the Windows settings for best performance: 1. Exit all running applications. 2. Right-click on the My Computer icon. 3. Select Properties from the menu. 4. Click the Advanced tab. 5. Click the first Settings button in the Performance box. 6. Click the Adjust for Best Performance radio button. 7. Click OK in both open dialog boxes. Users can view memory usage and availability by using the hot key combination Alt+Ctrl+M when KINGDOM is running and has the active focus. NOTE: If you have Windows Live Search installed, the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+M may bring up the Windows Live Search Tool instead of the KINGDOM memory dialog box.

Windows7
KINGDOM 8.5 has passed testing on Windows 7 with no known outstanding issues. As with any new operating system there are a multitude of configurations with respect to security settings, up-to-date device drivers and mix of loaded software applications. If you should experience issues as always please contact your local SMT support team for assistance.

Windows7andBMCsAppSightBlackBox
BMC, the provider of AppSight, does not currently support Windows 7. If you are running KINGDOM on a Windows 7 system, SMT will not download or install AppSight when KINGDOM 8.5 is installed. BMC has indicated that a certified version of AppSight will be available sometime in the first quarter of 2010. At that time we will provide AppSight for customers on Windows 7 systems.

Memory Required

Based on the above chart, the peak RAM requirements for this project would be 7.7GBs if the user only displayed one window. However, if the user displayed 2 grids, 5 vertical seismic views, 2 horizons and 2 time slices we would need an additional 800MBs + 600MBs + 848MBs bringing the peak RAM requirements to 9.9 GBs. The actual peak memory usage would be during the grid creation. Since the amount of RAM required for this project is over 8 GBs, it is considered a "Large Regional Project" and one should purchase hardware accordingly. It is important to remember, this is only an example scenario. Please contact your IT department and/or SMT consulting services to define hardware needs for your environment. Video Cards Please refer to Appendix B for Video Card Requirements. Development and testing for VuPAK was done utilizing Nvidia Quadro FX3700, FX3800, FX4600 & FX5200 Video Cards with 512MB and 768MB of memory.

License Server for Network Users

KINGDOM 8.5 requires license server version Sentinel LM 8.0. This is the same version since the release of KINGDOM 8.0. Users of previous versions of the Sentinel LM license server must upgrade to Sentinel LM 8.0. The SMT License Server 8.0 installer will guide you through the upgrade process. Sentinel LM 8.0 is backward compatible with older clients. That is, all applications currently running on Sentinel LM version 7.2.0.9 will operate normally. If the network license server is running on a computer with the Windows Firewall option turned on, then the computers running the KINGDOM software may have a problem connecting to the license server. If this situation occurs, set the Windows Firewall option to OFF on the computer running the network license server or create an exception.

Regional Settings
The regional settings for Windows must be set to use a period instead of a comma for the decimal point. The default in many European countries is to use a comma. To change the regional settings, follow these steps: 1. 2. 3. 4. Exit all running applications. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options. Click Customize next to the regional setting. If the Decimal symbol is a comma, then click the drop-down arrow beside Decimal symbol and select period. 5. Click OK and OK again on the original window.

KINGDOM Data Management

KINGDOM Data Management is SMTs enterprise KINGDOM project and data management suite, replacing OpenKINGDOM Domain. KINGDOM Data Management still provides excellent tools for: o Locating and managing all projects across the enterprise o Generating project and data level reports o Reviewing project data contents o Executing queries and QC scripts across KINGDOM projects In addition to original project management and reporting functions, KINGDOM Data Management allows data managers to: o o o o Transfer data between KINGDOM projects leveraging OpenSpirit Copy Manager functionalities imbedded directly in the application* Reproject on-the-fly as data is transferred between projects QC and Edit well data directly within the interface Work in updated menus and forms.

*KINGDOM Data Managements OpenSpirit components are wholy contained within the application and require no additional licenses or installations from OpenSpirit Corporation KINGDOM Data Management has been released as a replacement/upgrade for previous versions of OpenKINGDOM Domain. Current OpenKINGDOM Domain customers will receive this as part of their maintenance.

Resolved OpenKINGDOM Domain Issues

The following known OpenKINGDOM Domain issues have been resolved in KINGDOM Data Management An obsolete warning message about adding projects to the domain with duplicate GUIDs was removed. KINGDOM Data Management now supports projects with duplicate names and GUIDs. (302347) After copying a project, synthetics created in KINGDOM were treated as imported synthetics in the copied project and were not editable. (307114)

Fixed Bugs and Known Problems

KINGDOM
The following product issues have been corrected in the 8.5 release. In addition, since the release of 8.4 a number of product fixes have been made to Kingdom-32 and Kingdom-64. These fixes were made available through 8.4 HotFix releases. All of these product fixes are included in the 8.5 Release. These fixes are listed by release in Appendix B.

Fixed Bugs
When creating a new author the user is no longer forced to create the author folder under the project folder. The new authors folder can be located wherever the user desires. (300613) In some cases when culture is turned on, plotting and print preview have dark horizontal lines across the image where there are no horizontal lines shown on the base map view. (286944)

2d3dPAK Advanced
Fixed Bugs
On some workstations KINGDOM would crash when generating an Illuminator volume. This was corrected by updating the Intel MKL libraries to version 10.2.1. (296019) 3d Seeker+ progress bar is inaccurate. When running 3d seeker+ on a single survey within a polygon, the progress bar shows very little progress, but the base map shows that a larger part of the survey in the polygon has been picked. (301374)

2d/3dPAK
Fixed Bugs
Using 8.x versions will fail to compute the correct deviation survey when loading MD-INCL-AZIM. Also, the loading process takes a lot of time. (276982) When merging SEGY data into KINGDOM, error messages may prevent the merge from completing. These messages are caused by one of two situations: (206315) o The user does not have Full Control permissions With the release of KINGDOM 8.5 Full Control permissions are no longer required. Only Change (rwx) permissions are required. Ensure that seismic files are in a folder with Change (rwx) permissions assigned to data loaders. o The seismic file being merged is in use by another user. KINGDOM 8.5 will display a message box indicating who is currently logged into the project. Have these users exit KINGDOM. When a depth data type has a negative vertical mistie and later more seismic data is merged into the data type, the mistie will no longer be applied twice. (283055) After using the polygon erase tool, the grid display on the base map and the vertical seismic view were inconsistent. (271943) Saved contour set not displaying annotations when dragging contours onto a grid. (286645) When loading culture polygon files KINGDOM did not accept a latitude value of zero. If it does find a zero value, that polygon is simply not loaded. This impacts projects near the equator. (276493)

2009 Seismic Micro-Technology, Inc. / www.seismicmicro.com

One client reported that a problem with a shape file that would not import but would import into ArcGis. This has been fixed. (291879) Creating a fault polygon set with two sets selected during an OR operation in Math On Two Maps is not working. (288871) In some situations editing a closed contour, resulted in not saving one closed contour but saving two separate contours, this has been corrected. (290059) Documentation for the UKOOA and SEGP-1 coordinate file formats has been added to the KINGDOM Help [The KINGDOM Software Help Topics > Data Import and Export > Import 2D Seismic > SEG-P1 and UKOOA Data]. (295460) Applying the Average Energy attribute results in banding on crosslines at an interval of every 50 inlines. (299542) Saving a large contour set generated from a grid with Save Contour Set As was very slow. The I/O for saving contours has been optimized and in our test cases performance was improved by as much as 5X. (298448) A client reported that some SPs were not displaying but were in the project. Several 2d lines with variable SP-Trace relationships had been loaded. The map showed certain portions of the lines with no SP labels after using survey annotation to label all SP's. (300317) The "Running Dog" cursor which would appear in the vertical seismic view after performing a Polygon Smooth operation has been removed. (301283) KINGDOM would crash when creating a velocity map using Cubic Spline algorithm. (301064) One client reported that KINGDOM crashed when an author creates or copies a horizon. (301381) Fault lines and fault surfaces display only with whichever option is chosen for fault surfaces. When the Both toggle is on, it is very difficult for the user to distinguish the difference between fault lines and surfaces. (300433) There was a problem importing Landmark Position Logs. KINGDOM was importing TVDSS Depth and X-Offset instead of X-Offset and Y-Offset. (300829) Interactive Mistie Analysis no longer crashes when operating on data with a sample rate in microseconds. (303812) When performing a Bulk Mistie Analysis for multiple 2D lines the "Next" button no longer grays out when the user tries to select data types other than the default. (305080) A discrepancy has been corrected in the coordinates display between the SEGY Viewer and the KIGNDOM File Parameters dialog when apply a scaling factor. (304752) In some cases contouring a grid produced contour lines that wrapped around a fault polygon. This has been corrected. (305957) When exporting a 2d line that has a variable shotpoint/trace relationship using the "Current Displayed Line" option, the output is no longer corrupted. (286310) The well query did not work correctly when the Combined Selections OR functionality was used. (288990) The well query did not work correctly when the query was composed of a previously generated subset and a specific log curve. (305144) KINGDOM crashes when exporting a some contours to DXF format. (307440) Contours ignored fault polygons in a rotated 3d survey. (308145) KINGDOM crashed when displaying specific 2d lines in a one client project. (307789) Well query using a UWI list from a file is now working on Vista. (302511)

KINGDOM Software Release Notes for Version 8.5 December, 2009 p. 11

2009 Seismic Micro-Technology, Inc. / www.seismicmicro.com

Known Problems
There is currently a bug in "Import World Coordinates > 2d By File" that results in incorrect 2d coordinates. In TKS 8.5 please make sure to import all world coordinate through the text reader by choosing the *.* option when selecting all 2d coordinate files. SMT is working to resolve this problem and the fix will be available in a TKS 8.5 hotfix. (29889) The sort order in Surveys> Survey Management> Mistie Table doesn't persist after applying a change to a data type's mistie settings. Sort order incorrectly reverts back to default order. (310228) When using the mouse wheel or arrow keys to scroll through horizon data types in a map view, scrolling is interrupted when the progress bar appears and becomes active. (29843) The dropdown list for selecting attributes in a map view currently doesn't auto-expand for list viewing as on VSD displays. The view of full data type names can be cut short. (29842)

EarthPAK
Fixed Bugs
When calculating zone attribute with the existing name, Nulls are not created when log is missing. (276390) After loading raster logs, and trying to access them, KINGDOM gives the message "The following raster log tiff file couldn't be loaded" and then gives the name of the just saved raster log image. The workaround had been to delete the rli files and let them rebuild. This problem has been fixed. (294918) Zone >Zone Attribute Calculator hangs: Performance has been significantly improved for well working sets of less than 100,000 wells. By limiting the size of your working set when using the Zone Attribute Calculator you will improve performance. In our testing a working set of 9,900 wells took 25 seconds to load. (306926) The Logs > Calculations > Equations wizard was very slow taking several minutes to load the data. Performance has been significantly improved for well working sets of less than 100,000 wells. In our testing a working set of 9,900 wells took 25 seconds to load. (304864, 302132)

Known Problems
Transparency in bubble maps and cross section annotation prints as opaque. Production data posted on a base map is incorrect when a well has multiple producing formations with the same production start and end dates. (287269) Loading an MD-INCL-AZ deviation survey with a very large number of samples at close sample spacing is slow and in some cases does not compute correctly. Loading an MD-TVD-dX-dY survey behaves correctly. In the first case decimating the number of survey points in the survey fixes the problem. (276982)

VuPAK
Fixed Bugs
Client reports that surface hunt is either not picking or producing erratic results depending on how the picking parameters are set. (289670) Switching from Manual pick mode to Pick or Whole line Erase mode deletes digitized points. (298843)

2009 Seismic Micro-Technology, Inc. / www.seismicmicro.com

Volume Hunt does not hunt on bricked volumes. (298281)

AVOPAK
Fixed Bugs
A gather type mismatch error occurred after the client had incorrectly renamed a gather volume to a regular stacked volume. Cross type assignment is no longer permitted. (299692)

KINGDOM Data Management

Known Problems
Do Not Copy Seismic Option: Copying KINGDOM projects using the Do Not Copy Seismic option allows seismic files to be used by more than one KINGDOM project. This saves storage space, but these seismic files can then be deleted, edited, or moved by any KINGDOM Software author using any of the projects which are sharing the data. (170310) OpenKINGDOM Domain does not have a 64-bit version. There is only a 32-bit version and it is not compatible with an Oracle 64-bit client.

Tunnel O
Fixed Bugs
Loading and displaying the well list now takes seconds rather than minutes for projects with thousands of wells. (307611)

DbAdmin
Fixed Bugs
DBAdmin crashes when importing a .dmp database file. (304084)

TracePAK
Fixed Bugs
A crash occurs if you limit the time window using the "SubVolume" button, and resample at a sample rate that's lower than the input sampling. (298145) The application would crash when generating a sub-volume using the Sub Volume specified by Time/Depth interval referenced to a flattened horizon and Use selected horizon as input. No value for horizon NULL output options if the Output Sample Rate value was changed from the default value. (302986)

SynPAK
Fixed Bugs
Sometimes pinning a synthetic and performing a bulk shift results with the following message being displayed: Operation would place T-D points within 10 us of one another. Numerical stability requires that one of the points be deleted, which is a manual operation. (286074) In highly deviated wells with closely spaced data nodes, duplicate values can occur. If there are any duplicated values in the survey, SynPAK will stop the convolution process and not create the synthetic. In this scenario SynPAK will now display a warning message: (272145)

When viewing the cross correlation function (Trace > Compare Traces) the named trace does not show up in the SynPak window. (250902)

ModPAK
Fixed Bugs
The distribution of properties, mainly velocities, does not always proceed from the left side of the cross-section to the right side. It sometimes gets interrupted by lenses, well segments, horizon truncations, etc. It appears that in the incomplete areas the distribution stops and contains all null values. A complete model cannot be constructed. (302869)

VelPAK
Fixed Bugs
Tool tip on log in Curve Module now works correctly (1421) Tool tip on Previous/Next Event buttons are now correct in each module (1444) Velocity volume import now handles underscores in line names correctly (287782) The Volume tool now handles unusual decimation values correctly

Known Problems
In the 3d surface display, well trajectories are not shown in Mesh mode (299879). The work round is to set the display fly out to display the surface in Iso mode.

Appendix A: Video CardsUpdated Hardware Requirements

Two features available in KINGDOM versions 8.3 and later affect video card requirements. Volume coblending (VuPAK) and shaded relief (2d3dPAK) take advantage of some of the new functions available in updated graphics libraries. Framebuffer Objects, a relatively new extension to OpenGL, is needed to make these two functions display properly. When shopping for a video card, look for a card that has: OpenGL 2.1 or higher DirectX 9.0 or higher Shader Support 2.1 or higher at least 512 MB RAM (at a minimum - of course, more is better)

If you are unsure if your video card can meet these specifications, run a test program like OpenGLViewer (included with the DVD, or it can be downloaded from ftp://ftp2.realtech-vr.com/realtechv/pub/glview232.exe [32-bit] or http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/download.html [64-bit]).

For example, in the screen shot below, you can see that this video card with an older driver only has 66%% of the core features needed for OpenGL 2.1.

2009 Seismic Micro-Technology, Inc. / www.seismicmicro.com

After updating to a new driver, the same video card now supports all features of OpenGL 2.1

VuPAK does not require the latest shader models and GPU functionality, but it does perform best with greater memory and faster processing speeds. However, even a moderately priced or older GPU can support VuPAK if it has shader support and the software running it is up-to-date. Development and testing for VuPAK was done utilizing Nvidia Quadro FX3700, FX3800, FX4600 & FX5200 Video Cards with 512MB and 768MB of memory.

Bug Fixes in this Update (Reference numbers in parentheses) 2d/3dPAK

Performance when horizon picking on an arbitrary line has been significantly improved. The noticeable latency during the picking operation has been eliminated. (RTI 300582) When updating a time/depth chart with the last depth shallower than the total depth of the well KINGDOM will extrapolate the time/depth chart to the total depth of the well. (RTI 299529) Using Math on two maps to add a constant value to a grid would give an error message and not complete the operation. This problem has been fixed. (RTI 299733) The latency when selecting a fault to edit has been eliminated. This latency was particularly noticeable for regional projects. (RTI 300647) Scrolling performance for both map and vertical seismic windows has been significantly improved for most projects. The slow scrolling performance was particularly noticeable when base maps had culture displays enabled. The unnecessary redrawing of culture data in map windows was slowing display performance. (RTI 300651) Horizon Polygon Erase of 2d horizon data has been fixed. One can now delete 2d horizon data with Polygon Erase. (RTI 299873) The 2D hunt settings no longer get reset to pick in both directions when you change from H to F to H again. (RTI 300884)

TracePAK
A crash reported when running Survey Statistics has been fixed. (TFS 20986)

EarthPAK
Drill Events>>Show>>Show Type now permits users to add new DST data types. (RTI 297830)

Tunnel L+
In one clients environment, after transferring 2d surveys from Openworks 2003 the KINGDOM Oracle project would not open. This has been fixed. (RTI 293190) File permissions for interpretation files transferred to SeisWorks are now defaulted to the permissions for the current UNIX session. (RTI 300471)
