1/2 yard

*1/2 yard Cotton Fabric *Coordinating Scraps or Fat Quarter for Pockets *3/4” Elastic *Matching thread
*a note about sizing: elastic length =size of waist + 1” this pattern will fit any child whose waist is less than 18” (the smaller the waist, the fuller the skirt.) See ** for older children/adults

Materials Needed:

1. With the selvage edges lined up, cut in half. (Pieces should be roughly 18” by 22”) 2. Cut out 4 pockets from the provided template. 3. Right sides together, place straight edge of one pocket 5” down from the top of skirt panel. See Diagram A. 4. Sew 1/4” seam along straight edge of pocket. Repeat on both the left and right sides for each skirt panel. See dotted line on Diagram A. 5. Carefully press pocket out. With right sides together, line up both skirt panels. Pockets should line up. Pin carefully & sew 1/4” down the sides of the skirts and *around* the pockets (not through them). See Diagram B. 6. Fold & press top of skirt to the wrong side 1/4” and then again another 1”, making the elastic casing. 7. Sew 1/8” (or edgestitch) the folded edge, leaving about 2” to thread the elastic through. See Diagram C. 8. With a safety pin, thread the elastic through the casing and out to the opening. Overlap the elastic ends by about 1/2” and sew the two ends together. 9. Sew the elastic casing shut. 10. Fold up the bottom of the skirt about 1/2” and press. Sew 1/4” hem. 11. Fold up skirt to desired length and hem by hand.
