~~PROGRAM~~
Al Simonsen introduced his friend and St. Mary’s Women’s Volleyball Coach Rob Browning as our speaker today. Rob was kind enough to appear on extremely short notice at Al’s invitation. Rob is a Moraga resident, with two children in the elementary schools. Al’s granddaughter Taylor had planned to attend St. Mary’s and play volleyball, but later decided to go to Pepperdine for family considerations. She is disappointed that her team doesn’t have the closeness and team spirit that the St. Mary’s team does. Rob invited us to see the two volleyball matches at St. Mary’s this week: Thursday at 6 pm against San Diego and Saturday at 2:30 pm against undefeated BYU. Rob’s coaching methods include having his athletes read books that will enhance their desire to work hard to increase their abilities. He pointed out that while a person may be born with natural gifts, they should be enhanced and developed through consistent workouts. For example, Wolfgang Mozart and the Bronte sisters were regarded as prodigies, in both cases their natural gifts were improved through consistent development by mentors and other sources.
