Minister Hancock speaks on WIN III

October 23, 2013

Dave Hancock, Minister of Human Services, released the following statement today regarding WIN III.
“We were surprised to hear that the WIN III board has made an announcement that they will close WIN III. Our understanding is that Homeward Trust Edmonton is in the process of reviewing a funding request from WIN III and a decision is expected soon. Although Human Services has never provided operational funding for WIN III, we are working with them to find an appropriate avenue for this longer-term transitional housing model since their federal grant was terminated. As part of our Building Alberta Plan of investing in families and communities, the Government of Alberta invests $29 million for women’s shelters and $70 million across government for emergency shelters and combating family violence. This is a 90% increase since 2004.” Dave Hancock, Human Services Minister
