General : Cross Plot Improvement

We now use button menus for the cross plot axis names, in case of long axis names.

General : Cross Plot Original Log Values

Previous well log cross plots resampled the well logs to a constant sample rate. Now, you can cross-plot the original values without re-sampling.

General: Persistent Map View Parameters

Now the map display parameters are remembered for each slice. This means that every time you display a map from the Data Slice Archives, you do not have to reset all your favorite view parameters.

AVO : Export TV Data

We have an explicit menu for exporting time-velocity data.

AVO: Improved Trim Statics Default Parameters

In previous releases, the default Maximum Time Shift parameter in the Trim Statics process was set at an unrealistic value of 76 ms. Now, the default Maximum Time Shift is set to 4 times the seismic sample interval (e.g., 8 ms for 2 ms sampled data, 16 ms for 4 ms sampled data).

STRATA: Pre-stack Inversion Improvements:Well Cross Plots

In the Well Data Crossplot of the Pre-Stack Inversion menu, we can now calculate the auto-covariance and cross-covariance's of the elastic parameters. As well, the Vs/Vp average is calculated.

STRATA: Pre-stack Inversion: Pre-whitening Based on Covariances

Pre-whitening can now be based on the measured covariances. Now only a single prewhitening value is required and the individual elastic prewhitening parameters are calculated from the covariances. The lower the covariance, the higher the prewhitening that is applied. The previous method, userdefined pre-whitening, is also available.

EMERGE: Limit Output Values to a Range

You can now restrict EMERGE results to reasonable values by applying cutoff ranges. This is particularly useful for fractional parameters, such as porosity and water saturations, as you can ensure that there will be no negative values or values greater than 1.0.

ISMap: Elliptical Search Region for EMERGE Analysis

When using the EMERGE option in ISMap, you can now specify an elliptical average spatial window for averaging the map attributes, in addiction to square and circular averaging windows. The Radius is the length of the major axis, the Minor Axis is the minor axis length and the Angle is specified counter-clockwise from the East.

ISMAP: Cokriging and Co-simulation Scaling

We have improved our scaling methodology between primary and secondary values so that cokriging and co-simulation now yield the correct results for standard constraint values.

GLI3D: Merge Geometry, Grid Values Export

For both manual and automatic picking the search distance (ms) maximum for snap point (e.g. snap to peak) can be different above and below the hand picked position. i.e. search distance and + can be different values. Previously the search had to be the same and +.

Cross-plot Archives
Zones created on cross plots can be saved and loaded. Archives show listings of zones. Zones can be filtered by name.

Cross Plot Regression Line Errors

Regression Lines are now plotted with the Normalized Standard Error also included. The Standard Error is calculated in a vertical or horizontal sense depending on the regression slope being greater than or less than 1 and then divided by the data range to yield the Normalized Standard Error.

Convolution Process
Convolution is now available as a process for your seismic data. This can be done on the whole data or specific areas. Uses include convolving a reflectivity volume with a wavelet to produce a synthetic volume or applying a shaping filter to a seismic volume to change the waveform characteristics.

Improved Seismic Window Data Menu

In the Seismic Window Data Menu, if you choose Delete, then the data is just deleted from your current view and the list. In previous versions the data was immediately deleted from the project. The new menu makes this a safer option. Now, in order to permanently delete a volume from the project, you must do it from the Data Explorer menu.

Empty Bin Trace Padding

Volumes with holes in were previously always loaded with gaps being removed from display, as to the left.

Traces can now be padded so holes in the data are clear. This is the option of padding between existing bins.

Empty Bin Trace Padding

The trace padding option is in Seismic View Parameters on the Plot tab.

Improved Set Current Wavelet

In CE7 the well paths for deviated wells that have a dip/azimuth survey are calculated using the Tangential method. In CE8 a more realistic method of calculating well path deviations is implemented using the Minimum Curvature Method.

Location Well Posting

Well locations can be easily loaded from file. Multiple well spots can be loaded from one file. This is useful for maps.

Well and Log History

All VHR processing history on logs can be viewed and edited.

Importing Tops For Multiple Wells

In CE7, multiple tops could be loaded simultaneously for one well at a time. Now in CE8, multiple tops can be loaded for multiple wells at once. The top file just needs an additional column with well name information. This will save a lot of time if you have a large number of wells to load with the same geological tops.

Well Exchange / OpenWorks

Connection to OpenWorks R2003.12 (Emerald City)

Well Exchange / OpenWorks

Easier well and curve selection.

Well Exchange / OpenWorks

Display the angles on gathers as a color attribute overlay. The interval and RMS velocities can also be displayed as a color attribute.

Improved Pick Analysis

The Pick Analysis on gathers has been improved to include information about the velocities, and the calculated Intercept (A) and Gradient (B) values.

Depth Processing
The following processing options handle the depth domain seismic: - AVO Attribute Volume Calculations:

- Super Gather - Angle Gather - Incident Angles can be shown as a color attribute overlaying depth traces

Synthetic Gathers in Depth

AVO synthetics can be generated in the depth domain.

Synthetic Gathers in Depth

The calculated AVO depth synthetics can be compared to the depth seismic. In this example, the depth synthetic gather is displayed in the Panner window beside the depth seismic gathers.

Angle Gathers
Strata incorporates some data processes which include the pre-stack process of generating Angle Gathers. This is in order to support the new Pre-Stack Inversion algorithm as angle gathers are the input.

Pre-stack Inversion
As Zp, Zs and density are related, log data can be cross-plotted and the background trend (mud rock) can be found. Deviations from this are possible indicators of hydrocarbons.

Pre-stack Inversion
The plots shown in the previous slide are used to find values of regression coefficients for the main parameter menu.

Choose the number and type of output volumes.

Pre-stack Inversion
Pre-stack inversion has multiple attribute outputs. This is a powerful new technique. ZP

Strata was limited to using a single global wavelet for inversions. In the new Pre-stack Inversion, multiple wavelets can be used for different angles. As well, we are currently researching techniques to utilize time-varying and spatial-varying wavelets.

Improved Multi-2D Line Handling
In CE7 the multi-2D line method was limited by having to create a 3D grid to encompass all of the lines and wells. This usually meant that you had to increase the grid cell size in order to encompass all of the data. The CE8 release removes this limitation by using real xys.

Improved Inversion Analysis

Inversion Analysis can be done quickly in 1D at the well locations, including for prestack inversion. This will help you to decide inversion parameters. Errors are shown graphically down the wells. For pre-stack inversion the error can be shown for each output attribute type, e.g. P-Impedance, S-Impedance, Density.

X and Ys as Internal Attributes

Use the location information as an internal attribute in EMERGE training.

ISMAP: EMERGE Analysis Link

Now you can use EMERGE functions to map with both seismic and well data without leaving ISMap.

ISMAP: Annotated Contouring

Set the contour parameters to contour with or without color overlays.

3-Phase Fluid Replacement Modeling

As in AVO, 3-phase FRM will also be incorporated in Pro4D. The Systematic Changes menus will also enable you to selectively alter single fluid saturations and, in 3phase systems, control the saturation ratios.

Heavy Oil Bubble Point Equation

The Fluid Calculator now includes the option for using the Butler Equation (Heavy Oil Method) for calculating the bubble point of heavy oils as well as the standard Standing Equation for higher API oil.

Zero-phase Shaping Filter

The Shaping Filter process used in calibration now includes a Zero-Phase Frequency matching option. The Combined method will first pass a Full Match shaping filter to shape the phase spectrum and then the Zero-Phase option will be applied after to better match the amplitude spectra.

Zone-Based Cross Normalization

The Cross-Normalization calibration process can now be restricted to zones.

PRO4D: Time Variant Time Shift Thresholds

Based on Cross Plot Zones
3D volumes of the cross-correlation coefficients and time shifts between the monitor and the base survey are first computed.

The two volumes are then cross-plotted. A Vshaped polygon zone can be defined on the crossplot (that is, there is more confidence in time shift values with higher cross-correlation values).

This zone can be used to define the variable time shifts that are applied to calibrate the two data sets.

Improved Arbitrary Lines

Arbitrary Lines can be cut from all of the seismic surveys at the same time.

This includes Arbitrary Lines along the trajectory of a deviated well.

Auto-Calibration Toolkit
Auto-Calibration software is designed to convert 4D attribute maps to estimates of Pressure, Saturation change, contact thickness, etc Attributes from the synthetic modeling are fed into the EMERGE prediction engine to find a relationship between the production parameter and the 4D attribute. The relationship is applied to the actual 4D anomaly maps to create maps of the production parameter. First, synthetic seismic modeling is done in Pro4D using Systematic Changes to model the expected changes in the seismic waveform with production. Systematic Changes creates pseudo-3D volumes of synthetics.

Auto-Calibration Toolkit
Next, the amplitudes of the synthetic traces must be normalized with amplitude of the seismic traces.

Then, the attributes of the 4D difference traces are extracted and data slices of the 4D attributes are created.

Time delays

Normalized amplitude difference

Auto-Calibration Toolkit
The EMERGE engine is then used to search for a relationship between the slices of the synthetic 4D seismic attributes and the modeled reservoir production parameter.

The relationship is then applied to the actual 4D anomaly maps to create maps of the reservoir production parameter.

Waveform Classification
Using a cross-correlation technique, Auto-Calibration can be used to classify areas

with a similar seismic waveform.

Multi-2D Line Capability

ProMC now supports processing 2D and multiple 2D lines. This also includes multi-2D velocity models.

Velocity Earth Models

ProMC now incorporates Velocity Earth Models based on the Strata approach. The models use both well log information (depth time curves for P and S logs) and horizon information.

Velocity Earth Models

Building the Velocity Models is done from a new simplified menu. P- & S-Wave and Density models are built simultaneously. All models are built in PP Time and can easily be modified. Models can be quickly deleted or exported.

All models are built using all the PP Horizons. You can control the method by which the software interpolates between horizons.

Domain Conversion Using Models

You can use the velocity models for Vp and Vs and use them in Domain Conversion and other processes inside ProMC such as simultaneous PP/ PS inversion.

Simultaneous Inversion
ProMC now includes Simultaneous (Pre-stack) Inversion of PP and PS data.

Pre-stack Inversion in ProMC requires PP and PS volumes and Vp, Vs and Density Models.

Multiple wavelets for different angles and for PP and PS domain are also included.

Simultaneous Inversion is currently limited to only 3D volumes.

Simultaneous Inversion
Simultaneous Inversion requires knowledge of the Zp/Zs and Zp/Density relationships. A log data cross plot is built into the software to facilitate this analysis.
