Norms in the printing workshops

Students are responsible for cleaning up all areas they are working in. Please store your projects on the provided shelves or in your locker and put away all materials and tools in their storage areas at the end of class sessions. Other students need to use the limited table space we have available. All students must put gloves on when cleaning and turn on the ventilation when using solvents. Trash should be thrown away in the appropriate bins, SOLID WASTE - Paper dry and clean in a paper container - Plastic in a plastic container - Glass in class container - Rags of Solvents, White spirit, turpentine, alcohol, universal dissolvent, grounds...etc., must be put into the appropriate and destined container. - Food, paintbrushes, paper paint pallets go into regular trashcan.


PPE for the printmaking and screen-printing areas. Head/Face Protection
Tie back long hair or wear a hat, as it could become tangled in moving

machinery parts Wear a face shield if flying particles are expected during the machining, sprays and aquatint machine process. Eye Protection
The use of safety glasses is MANDATORY when using all power tool

and acids. Students may purchase their own safety glasses

Ear Protection Earplugs are provided to students at no cost and should be used while

working with power tools and cleaning mesh in screen-printing areas. Earplugs are kept in the screen-printing cabinet. Protective Clothing

Students wear appropriate clothing while working in the printing and

screen-printing workshop. Secure any loose fitting jewellery or clothing (roll up long sleeves) that may interfere or become tangled in moving tool parts. Do not wear highly flammable clothing

Hand Protection
When working with chisels or hammers, work gloves are helpful in

protecting from impact injuries. Do not wear gloves when working close to moving machine parts When wearing gloves, be sure they fit properly and are rated for the specific task you are performing Respirators/Masks
Nuisance dust masks are recommended when performing certain tasks

in the workshops. In the aquatint box and using spray aquatint nuisance dust mask will help alleviate breathing in excessive amounts of dust particles Do not share you mask with others.
