Like the tax collector in todays Gospel, Pope
Francis, in a recent interview, identified himself as a
sinner. Sometimes it is easy to forget that we are sinners, too, and
that one day we will be judged as we have judged others. Consider
making a good confession during this Year of Faith.

Aron |I Dtocc) This past year, the Church has been celebrating
the Year of Faith as well as the 50th
Anniversary of the Second Vatican Council. For
our current student community this event may
seem like distant history, yet in fact the work of
the Second Vatican Council is still unfolding in
our Church today. Pope Francis vision of the
Church derives from the fruits of Vatican II that emphasized that all
the baptized have the responsibility to proclaim and live the Gospel
of Jesus Christ in our world. The Council emphasized that the
Church was first and foremost the People of God and not the
religious and ordained ministers.

This Wednesday at 7:00 pm, Dr. Richard Gaillardetz will be
speaking about the work of the Second Vatican Council as it guides
us in understanding our potential to minister as the People of God
in the 21st Century. I hope everyone can attend and be inspired in
new ways to live our faith in Jesus Christ as we look to transform
the world to be a more just and holy place.

For more information on this event, please see the advertisement
on the facing page, contact our Campus Minister, Dorothy, at
dorothy@utcatholic.org, or visit gaillardetz.com.

Fr. Chucks book discussion
Join Fr. Chuck for his Fall Book Discussion,
Mondays at Noon and 7:00 pm in the Saint
Augustine Room at St. Austin Parish. Meeting
dates are October 21, 28, and November 4, 11,
and 25 (no meeting Nov 18). We will be
discussing Church by Paul Lakeland. If you want
a good presentation on Church in a thoroughly
Vatican II framework, this is the book. This is
serious study, but well written and accessible to educated laity.
