THE NEWSLETTER OF GRACE LUTHERAN CHURC H

November 2013 Dear Members and Friends, I want to thank everyone who has offered to help with the Harvest Dinner. It makes me proud to know that everyone is willing to step up to the plate when the time comes and make things happen. The month of Thanksgiving is a good time to take stock of all that we have to be thankful for whether its at church, at home, or personally. Many times we bring our petitions or prayer requests to God regarding favors we are requesting for others, our loved ones or ourselves. Once is a while it is good for us (and I believe pleasing to God) to just say thank you for all that we have, all that we have received and for prayers that have been answered. May this Thanksgiving be a thankful one.

By the Grace of God,

Pastor David Almleaf

To all Friends in Grace, October 21, 2013 We hope you are enjoying the autumn weather and that you and your families are richly blessed. It has gotten cold in the mornings and cooler during the day and we too are experiencing the beauty of the fall colors. Being in the gulf stream yours and our weather patterns in south central Kentucky are similar and we also get some of what the south gets. The harvest season is upon us and the farmers have cut their corn, beans, tobacco, grains, and sorghum from the fields to be processed. We enjoy the Amish and Menonite horse and buggys and they sometimes pull wagons of farm fresh goods to take to auction where people come to buy and sell cases of apples, tomatoes, squash and pumpkins, etc. along with other wares. We too have harvested our gardens of corn, tomatoes, peppers, okra, potatoes, cabbage, apples and herbs. Last year's harvest was more abundant as the rains this year caused some vegetables to rot and the water made it hard to weed. But He still provides in a mighty way! The Lord holds us in the palm of His hand every day and we also find that we are lifted up in prayer from people like you in the north and our new southern friends and church family. We are devoted to church services and events as Brother Hershel keeps us in the Word and in fellowship. I was Baptized in the Green River on October 6th! Praise the Lord for bringing me to the point of loving Jesus as He had first loved me; so much that I've given my heart to Him continually. I love planning and accompanying for the worship and music liturgy and find the Spirit of southern gospel music to be very uplifting. I've been getting positive feed back from the congregants about the music. I am glad that we, as a family are all attending church together regularly. We are enjoying life in this Bible belted farm region. We hope that our children continue to benefit physically and spiritually from the lifestyle Steven and I have chosen for them. Recently, Leah had to go by ambulance from the local hospital here at Casey County to Cincinnati Children's Hospital because of an encephalopathic episode related to high ammonia levels. The medical teams from both hospitals communicated with one another to allow for a smooth transition and recovery. Leah is back to her old self on a better medicine regime after only 2 days up there. Steven and Will went home after we were all at the local hospital. I rode in the ambulance with Leah, then the boys drove north to pick us up a couple of days later. Generally, the kids are doing well with their treatments, but their cystic fibrosis symptoms affect their energy level and some symptoms (respiratory, digestive and endocrine systems) and exacerbations keep them home from school fairly often. They keep up as best as they can with the tutor coming to our home twice a week. William and Leah next appointment in Ohio is on November 13th. We hope we won't have to go again earlier. We understand the progressive nature of CF and it is a difficult journey to have to bear. But Jesus, our Lord and Savior helps us handle it all with His love and grace. Please continue to keep us in your prayers as you are in ours. Best wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving! God Bless, Susan Gleeman and Family, 1825 Riffe Creek Road, Dunnville, KY 42528, 606-787-6045
