Huge Efficiency Gains

Tools covering needs such as topology clean-up, real-time workspace control, image rubber sheeting and batch table operations make Engage the musthave productivity boost for MapInfo Professional.

Efficient Control of Your Workspace

Map Window Tools Engage provides numerous productivity enhancements for working efficiently with MapInfo Professional map windows. Dynamic coordinate grid and scalebar Keep an automatically updated coordinate grid in your map window as you pan and zoom without losing track of scale via the dynamic scalebar. Interactive, real-time location and attribute display See your cursor location in the current map projection, plus any other projection of your choice. Measure distance and bearing in real-time and move the cursor over an object in a selected table to automatically display all attributes of that object. Manage your views and mapper sizes Save multiple preferred views of a map window to an easily accessible list for rapid map navigation. Work with multiple maps Use the Map Linking capability to pan and zoom multiple maps simultaneously and select the Match Window Sizes option for easier comparison of data in different map windows. The special multiple map cursor tool can be used to identify selected points on all maps. Raster and movie output Enhance your presentations by creating map window animation sequences and saving these to a movie file for replay via standard Windows media software. Advanced Selection The extra selection tools provided by Engage are great time savers and help avoid the need to construct complex SQL select statements. Select by map object style Select a single object, then use this tool to select all other objects in the same layer that have exactly the same graphical style. Optionally refine the criteria to select, for example, symbols of the same colour but of any shape or size. Select by attribute or group Use this tool to easily view a list of all the unique attributes in a selected data column and select all of the objects that have your desired attributes. Select by proximity search Identify objects of interest that fit specified criteria but are also within a given distance of other objects.

Enhanced Layer Control The floating Enhanced Layer Control gives you real-time control of the entire MapInfo Professional workspace. Standard buttons for visibility, editability, selectability, auto-labelling and view entire layer are immediately available. Use the drag-and-drop functionality to change the order of layers or move layers between map windows. Step back though your pan and zoom history with a true Previous View button. Alias names and groups If the filename needs to be abbreviated or be more descriptive, use the ELC to give it an alternative title. Layers can also be organised into natural groupings that can be independent of their display order. Pop-up shortcuts A right mouse click on any layer or map window name provides access to standard controls plus specific Engage features.

Faster Map Output Scaled & Customised

Scaled Map Making Engage facilitates map production in MapInfo Professional with an integrated set of tools. The Scaled Output function provides a wizard-style interface to simplify the production of accurately scaled and standardised layouts. Add a title block, coordinate grids, a legend, a scalebar and other data for a high quality printed map of any size and scale. Customisable titleblocks Engage lets you create your own titleblocks for selection when creating a scaled map output. These may incorporate specific text, a scalebar and a logo or other imagery. Coordinate grid overlays Add one or more coordinate grids to your map in any MapInfo Professional or custom projection. The Overlay Map Grid tool gives you control of grid style (lines, points, edge ticks) and spacing, plus label formats and placement. Create map legends Create a customised legend, with preferred styles and item ordering, for up to 10 layers in a multi-layered map. The legend is created in a map window for easy insertion into a layout. Text Engage lets you lock your text to data size, rather than only to map window size. This is ideal for hardcopy production, where you need a font size for your desired output scale, regardless of your current map window scale. Other text handling tools, like the ability to rotate all MapInfo Professional auto labels in a layer, provide further productivity gains. ColourMap The Engage ColourMap module allows the automatic creation of style Look-Up Tables (LUTs) from existing vector datasets, such as land-use or soil-type maps. These LUTs can then be used to rapidly apply the original styles to other vector datasets that contain the same attributes. Alternatively, the LUT styles (such as colours and patterns) can be modified with these changes then rapidly applied back to the original dataset.

Powerful Object Editing & Topology Clean-Up

The PolyBuilder This major module cleans complex, digitized linework (representing regions) and converts this cleaned linework into attributed polygons. The process uses the following functionality: Check linework In order to create polygons from linework datasets, the linework must be free of any lines which are duplicated, extend past or fall short of other lines. This tool flags all such errors. Correct linework The linework dataset is then cleaned, removing all identified errors. All the overlapping linework is broken down into individual line segments. Create polygons All cleaned line segments that enclose an area are joined together, creating polygons. Attribute polygons Once polygons have been created, they can be attributed using text located within them. The PolyBuilder utility also provides: Digitize linework - Create source linework from scratch. This tool enables the storage of feature line styles to aid in consistent data capture. It also allows features to be added as attributes during the linework creation process. Linework utilities - Additional tools to break, join and filter linework datasets can be run separately. Copy and Paste styles The Style Cloner in Engage enables the map object style to be copied from a selected point, line or polygon and applied to a new map window selection. Its as easy to use as copy and paste and a great time saver. Object Editing Build Build objects directly from ASCII coordinates stored in a text file, or draw by entering coordinates from the keyboard. Transform Rotate, shift and scale multiple objects with the transform function. In addition, an Object Align tool enables object alignment in a map window. Edit Engage provides numerous tools to manipulate objects. These include clipping, cutting, thinning, smoothing, splitting, extracting nodes and more.

Data & Workspace Utilities for Huge Productivity Gains

Manage Multiple Tables Engage provides many tools for batch table operations. These include Open, Pack, Append, Import/Export MID-MIF and Reproject. Other powerful tools include: Split one into many Avoid SQL queries and repetitive save as commands to split a table into multiple tables based on attributes in a column. The Table Split utility enables objects with unique attributes in a specified field to be saved to two or more separate MapInfo Professional tables. The multi-table structure manager This powerful tool allows easy comparison and editing of multiple fields across multiple tables. It essentially provides multi-table and field functionality of the MapInfo Modify Table Structure dialog (Table>Maintenance>Table Structure). This is of particular use when trying to alter the structure (field names, formats, field order, etc) of a number of similar data tables prior to combining them using the Table Utilities>Multi-Append tool. Your Favourites Manage lists of your favourite tables, workspaces and MBX programs. Assign alias names and descriptions of them, plus open quickly, regardless of folder location. Compute Area Changes The Compute Area Change utility provides an efficient method to both quantify and visualise changes in polygonal or linear features between successive layers of data. Examine, for example, polygon changes between two map layers representing data from different time periods. Ideal for mapping changes in habitats, forestation, parklands, pest outbreaks, etc. Other Great Utilities Automatically refresh remote DBMS database tables at your specified time interval. AutoSave your workspace for recovery if needed. Colour map objects from Red/Green/Blue attributes via the RGB Colouriser. Display magnitude and orientation data via the Plot Vectors utility. Quickly close queries, unused tables or all tables with the Close All tool. Greatly improve data import capability and work time with the Advanced ASCII Import tool.

Image Transformations - True Rubber Sheeting Rectification

Powerful Raster Handling Load raster images and perform image transformations (rubber sheeting) to correctly register an image to a selected coordinate system. Rectify The standard registration process in MapInfo Professional is sufficient if no distortions or rotations exist in the unregistered image. Engage however, provides registration with image stretching and warping to fit the entered control points. The greater the number of control points used, the more accurate this rectification process will be. A number of transformation methods are available, including Projective, Affine, Conformal and Higher Order Polynomial. Reproject Engage enables you to permanently reproject and save a registered image to a new coordinate system. Creating a permanently reprojected image will assist in situations where on-the-fly reprojection is using too much computing resources and/or resulting in map refresh delays. Enhance Modify the image appearance with the enhancement options. These include contrast and brightness controls, colour to grayscale conversion, colour inversion (negative), full RGB control to adjust each colour band and gamma control of red, green and blue channels for overall brightness adjustment. Filter Apply sharpness and edge detection filters to an image to remove extreme values or enhance features. Rotate Rotate an image with one of the pre-set rotation options, or specify a custom angle. View properties View image projection, X and Y coordinate extents, number of rows and columns, total pixels, image type, file size and metadata. Clip Clip a raster image to one or more polygons in an existing table or the cosmetic layer. Alternatively, draw a boundary in the image preview window and choose to clip to this region. Convert Save your image to a new file and format. Output types include PNG, JPG, JPEG, BMP, TIFF and GIF.

Advanced Graphical Visualisation & Interactive Analytics

Interactive Graphical Data Exploration Produce 2D and 3D interactive graphical visualisations of your data but never lose your spatial context. With extensive display control, multi-graph selection tools, statistical reports and MapInfo Professional connectivity, the Engage GraphMap module is ideal for interactive data analysis. Choose from many display types: Scatter 3D Scatter Scatter Matrix Pie Ternary Bubble Probability Rose Box & Whisker Line Multi line Stereogram Bar

Geolocate your graphs Plot graphs next to the geographical locations of the source data. Linked selections GraphMap provides real time selection and visualisation functionality. All data remains linked for selection across all graphs, maps and browsers. For example, data selected in a graph window is immediately highlighted in all other graphs and maps. This is an excellent way of identifying subset populations within the data and their source geographical locations. Extensive symbology control Modify the colour, size and symbol properties using a discrete grouping variable, a continuous variable or a selection and apply these across multiple graphs. Statistics Generate and report a range of statistical parameters. More Advanced Analytics Compute summary statistics Compute over 30 summary statistical measurements of selected fields in a selected table. Advanced settings give you the power to set one of the fields as a base group for the calculation of statistics for each unique attribute in that group. Calculate a correlation matrix Calculate a correlation matrix of your data columns to emphasise the relative variation between the elements. Perform trivariate point classifications This advanced analytical utility is used to distinguish homogeneous groups of data that might exist within a larger total dataset.
