T

he Wise Center for
Plastic Surgery and Dr.
Jeffrey B. Wise, M.D.,
F.A.C.S. are now one of the few
New Jersey providers offering
both CoolSculpting – the latest
minimally invasive technology
in fat reduction – and Dual-
Sculpting, so patients can be
treated in half the time! Dr.
Wise decided to bring the Cool-
Sculpting technology to his cen-
ter after reviewing extensive
research and clinical studies,
and found it to be the most
effective in fat reduction.
Developed by a team of sci-
entists from Harvard University,
and cleared by the U.S. Food
and Drug Administration
(FDA), CoolSculpting is the
only procedure available that
targets fat cells alone by elimi-
nating them in an easy, nonin-
trusive fashion that exercise and
diet can’t achieve as quickly or
as effectively.
CoolSculpting has been
designed to target these problem
areas of stubborn fat, such as
those annoying muffin tops, love
handles, belly pooches, and
other areas throughout the body.
“I have found the procedure
to be extremely effective, espe-
cially on resistant localized areas
such as back fat, love handles
and the isolated belly fat,”
said Dr. Jeffrey B. Wise.
“CoolSculpting is extremely
comfortable and our patients are
highly satisfied.”
Unlike many other meth-
ods of fat reduction, Cool-
Sculpting involves no needles,
surgery or downtime. This pro-
cedure uses a targeted cooling
process through a non-invasive
applicator, which kills the fat
cells underneath the skin, liter-
ally freezing them to the point of
elimination. Treatments last
between one to two hours. Many
people read, work on their lap-
top, or even take a nap during
their treatment.
Starting several weeks after
the procedure, cooled fat cells
begin to shrink and disappear.
The body proceeds to naturally
and gradually eliminate the
cooled fat cells, reducing the
thickness of the fat layer. Most
patients see noticeable results
within two to four months after

I
’m 21, out of college and
can’t find a job. What do I
do now?
I’m 31, just got laid off,
have a big mortgage, a spouse
and two kids. What do I do
now?
I’m 41, recently got
downsized, have a bigger refi-
nanced mortgage, a spouse,
two kids nearing college and
my unemployment checks
have stopped. What do I do
now?
I’m 51, the company I
work for was just sold, people
are being let go, I believe I
may be next to get fired and
I’m not prepared to retire.
What do I do now?
I’m 61, my industry is
being phased out by techno-
logical advances, I’m too
young for Medicare, too young
to receive my pension and too
old to find another job. What
do I do now?
I’m 71, retired, with no
weekly paycheck, negative
performance in my portfolio
— on top of my withdrawal
needs — will deplete my funds
sooner than later. My parents
and in-laws are already gone so
there is no inheritance to look
forward to. Must I look to my
children for financial support
if my funds are depleted or is
there another solution?
I’m 81, it’s harder for me
to do the grocery shopping and
clean the house. My spouse is
getting more and more forget-
ful every day. We don’t have
any long-term care insurance
policies. What do I do now?
Or …
I’m 21, out of college and
can’t find a job. It’s a good
thing that my father told me
to put away 10 percent of my
earnings from each and every
paycheck I’ve ever earned
from my part-time jobs as a
teenager.
I’m 31, just got laid off,
have a big mortgage, a spouse
and two kids. Utilizing the
cash value from my life insur-
ance policy and my mutual
funds that I have been funding
for ten years now, there is
plenty of money at my dispos-
al until I can find the perfect
job again.
I’m 41, recently got
downsized, have a bigger refi-
nanced mortgage, a spouse and
two kids nearing college, and
my unemployment checks
have stopped. It’s a good thing
that I can borrow against my
401k, my life insurance cash
values and my mutual funds to
keep everything afloat.
I’m 51, the company I
work for was just sold, people
are being let go, I believe I
may be next and I’m not pre-
pared to retire. Once again,
with a combination of home
equity, life insurance cash val-
ues, all of my mutual funds and
my 401k assets, I can start my
own business or purchase a
franchise, become my own
boss and this dependence on a
job will be gone forever!
I’m 61, my industry is
being phased out by techno-
logical advances, I’m too
young for Medicare, too young
to receive my pension and too
old to find another job. After
analyzing my portfolio, I’ve
determined I can actually
retire comfortably for the rest
of my life without the con-
straints of a job. My spouse
and I both are guaranteed an
income that will never dimin-
ish or cease, thanks to our
financial advisor’s advice that
we listened to and practiced
for the last 40 years!
I’m 71, retired, with no
weekly paycheck and negative
performance in my portfolio
— on top of my withdraw-
al needs — will deplete my
funds sooner than later. My
parents and in-laws are already
gone so there is no inheritance
to look forward to. With my
retirement portfolio properly
set up and protected utilizing
the Trinity Method of
Investing, our joint retirement
income needs are guaranteed
to last until we are both gone,
even if stock and bond mar-
kets sour and our portfolio dies
before we do. Our financial
advisor told us of the benefits
derived from investing
through an insurance compa-
ny with income enhance-
ments and guarantees. We
immediately seized the oppor-
tunity and consider that deci-
sion the best financial move of
our lives!

Worried or secure: which person might you be? By Mark Charnet
continued on page 24
I
t’s not too late to make
moves to reduce your 2013
taxes if you are a business
owner.
•Use the new “streamlined”
home-office rules. Many self-
employed taxpayers declined
to claim the home-office
deduction because it was so
complicated to compute. For
2013, the deduction is stream-
lined, allowing for a deduction
of $5 per square foot, up to a
maximum of 300 square feet
or $1,500.
•Create a retirement plan. It’s
not too late to create a retire-
ment plan for yourself and
your employees if you have
them. The plans can be simple
to set up and administer, such
as a Simplified Employee
Pension (SEP) plan. A 401(k)
plan could be established even
for a one-person business.
While some of these plans
must be established by the end
of the year, most can be fund-
ed up to the extended due
date of the tax return.
•Purchase business equip-
ment. Up to $500,000 (sched-
uled to be reduced significant-
ly to $25,000 in 2014) in busi-
ness equipment purchases can
be expensed this year, rather
than being expensed over a
number of years. Additionally,
there is also a 50 percent
bonus depreciation allowance
(that will not be available in
2014) if your purchases
exceed the $500,000 limit.
This might be the last year to
maximize your equipment
purchase deductions to such
an extent.
•Deduct health insurance. If
you are self-employed, you are
allowed to claim 100% of the
amount paid for health insur-
ance for yourself, your spouse
and your dependents as long
as you follow certain condi-
tions.
•Consider credit card pur-
chases. If you want to pur-
chase equipment or supplies
for your business before the
end of the year, but you are
cash-strapped, consider using
your credit card. Your deduc-
tion occurs this year when the
purchase is made, not next
year when the credit card
charges are paid.
For guidance with year-
end tax planning for your
business, contact our office.

up for a trunk show on

The show will feature the beau-
tiful Nomination jewelry line.
A few years back,
Nomination steel bracelets

rage. What most of the fans of
these bracelets didn’t know was
that Nomination also designs
stunning high-quality silver
fashion jewelry. All the pieces
are crafted in Italy, renowned
for some of the best-made jew-
elry in the world, and most are

There are many unique
design suites in the
Nomination line. The
Romantica suite consists of
beautiful modern-styled neck-
laces, bracelets and earrings in
filigree heart shapes that are
accented with 18K rose gold
overlay details. The Sorrento
suite features cut-though geo-
metric circles with sun, cloud
or heart shapes. The Sofia suite
uses perfectly cut pastel-colored
semi-precious gems, such as
lavender and green amethyst,
light blue topaz, smoky quartz,
citrine, and green/gold quartz
complimented by brilliant
white cubic zirconias. All are
gorgeous, plated with tarnish

here’s a new way to
coerce fearful patients
to visit the dentist,
and it involves a nasal spray.
The nasal spray is cur-
rently undergoing tests to see
if it can substitute the way we
administer Novocaine. Early
trials were successful, so it’s
possible that permission for
use will be granted this year.
If a nasal spray successful-

will go a long way toward
shedding the negative feelings

t the 2012 Olympics,
74 men from 61
countries competed
in the 100 meter dash. Usain
Bolt left his competition in
the dust, setting a new world
record. But 20 runners were
within a half-second of his
qualifying time and 50 run-
ners were within one second.
No matter how good you
think you may be at what you
do, there is a lot of competi-
tion out there.
If we focus our energies
on beating others, even when
we are successful, the question
remains — for how long? First
place is a fickle and unsustain-
able perch. No matter how
powerful something may
seem, the relentless onslaught
of time has a way of eroding
the most formidable champi-
on because they are alone and
exposed. Everyone is aiming
to knock them off their podi-
um. That’s what happens in a
world fueled by competition;
everyone else is a potential
enemy.
Instead, my goal is to be
the best at finding common
pathways of success for others
around me. We all have the
opportunity to journey alone

T
hough it may seem
like dogs have stom-
achs of steel, no dog is
invincible. Sometimes they
may be struck with stomach
upset or a symptom that indi-
cates there is a problem.
The American Veterinary
Medical Association cites
canine digestive issues as one of
the main reasons people bring
their dogs to see a vet. Dogs
have different digestive systems
than humans, and one notable
difference is that dogs do not
have digestive enzymes in their
saliva. Food does the majority
of its breaking down within
the canine stomach, which
requires the stomach to pro-
duce more acid than a human’s.
This extra acid is what helps
dogs digest meats, particularly
raw ones, more readily, but it
may cause issues when intro-
duced to uncooked produce or
starches.
There are different stom-
ach ailments that may arise in
a dog and subsequent treat-
ment methods. Understanding
what might be going on can
help you seek medical advice
when necessary or avoid a trip
to the vet’s office.
VOMITING: Infrequent
vomiting is generally nothing
to get worried over. When a
dog eats something that is not
readily digested, he or she may
regurgitate the offender quite
quickly. Dogs who quickly eat
large amounts of food also may
find they have eaten too much
and regurgitate the contents of
their stomachs. Sometimes a
dog will vomit a frothy, yellow-
colored liquid. This is usually
bile that can be irritating to the
stomach. Smaller portions of
food spread out throughout the
day instead of one large meal
can help reduce vomiting.
When vomiting is fre-
quent and you notice any
other problems, such as weight
loss or refusal of foods, it is best
to consult with a veterinarian.
The dog may have eaten
something that is inappropri-
ate or poisonous.
DIARRHEA: Dogs are
not immune to diarrhea. Just
like humans, diarrhea is often
a byproduct of intestinal upset
rather than irritation in the
stomach. Many times dogs
may be afflicted with diarrhea
if they have intestinal para-
sites, such as certain types of
worms. There also may be a
foreign form of bacteria in the
body that causes irritation in
the intestines.
Diarrhea is often not a
cause for concern. It may
resolve on its own or by feed-
ing the dog a bland diet with
rice to absorb extra water from
the intestines. Frequent diar-
rhea will need further action
and may be indicative of a
larger problem.
Much like people, dogs
can suffer from colitis, an irri-
tation of the intestines. In
such instances, a dog’s stool
may appear full of mucous and
be very loose. Dogs who are
normally house-trained may
have trouble making it out-
doors and soil the house. Vets
may prescribe antibiotics and a
bland diet for a week or two to
get digestive health back on
track.
ULCERS: Ulcers can
develop in dogs when their
bodies are in shock from a
severe bacterial infection,
blood pressure problem or
even a heart problem. Ulcers
also may be the result of taking
certain medications. Dogs
with ulcers may produce vomit
with specks of old blood mixed
in. A vet may prescribe
antacids and a bland diet for
ulcers, much like a doctor
would for a person.
CANINE GASTRI-
TIS: This is a condition of
irritation in the stomach due
to a foreign object or food
allergy. Some instances of
canine gastritis are a result of
dogs eating garbage or grass. In
acute cases, canine gastritis
often goes away on its own in
one to two days. If it does not,
it may be chronic gastritis,
which results from a food aller-
gy or by consuming hairballs
or something that cannot be
digested, like plastic.
A vet can do a test
called a gastroscopy
to narrow down gas-
tritis diagnoses.
BLOAT: Bloat,
or gastric dilation-
volvulus, is a very
serious ailment that
occurs when there is a
problem with digestion.
Something causes gases to
build up in the dog’s stomach
and inflate it like a balloon.
The stomach also may twist
inside the body, causing the
esophagus to wrap around
itself as well as the bottom part
of the stomach at the pyloric
valve. This further prevents
the gas from escaping as nor-
mal. Eventually the stomach
may grow so large it cuts off
circulation to the heart, and
the dog may go into cardiac
arrest.
It is important to react
very quickly if you suspect
your dog has bloat. Surgery
may be needed, and even a few
minutes can mean the differ-
ence between life and death.
There are many digestive
ailments that can afflict dogs,
so it’s best to always consult
with a veterinarian when you
suspect there is a problem.

ome health care is a
preferred way of care
for those who wish to
receive quality individualized
services in the comfort of their
homes. Recipients of home
health care include the elderly,
those living with an illness and
those recovering from an acci-
dent or surgery. Choosing a
quality home health care
agency is not an easy decision.
Here are some helpful points to
consider:
1.Is the agency certified by a
reputable Accrediting Body of
Healthcare Organization, such
as the Commission on
Accreditation for Home Care,
Inc. (CAHC), which is New
Jersey’s largest and only state-
based home care accreditation
program?
2.Is the agency available 24/7
with an RN supervisor on-call
if necessary?
3.Is there a proper process for
the hiring, screening and train-
ing of employees? Note: RNs
need to be licensed by the New
Jersey Board of Nursing, and
home health aides should be
well-trained on emergency, dis-
ease or infection control, and
safety measures.
4.Is there an efficient caregiv-
er-client matching procedure
to ensure individual expecta-
tions and needs are met?
5.Is there an RN-approved and
tailor-made plan of care devel-
oped for the agency’s home
health aides to follow for each
specific client?
6.Is there an efficient commu-
nication system in place
between the agency, the care-
giver and client for handling
concerns and issues, such as a
home health aide running late
or unable to make it to work?
7.What payment options are
available, including group
health plans, long-term care
insurance, Medicaid, private/
self-pay and veterans’ benefits?
8.Are the services being offered
by the agency right for you or
your loved one? Does the
agency offer skilled services
performed by an RN, such as
medication set-up per physi-
cian orders, infusions, and
wound care? Does it offer non-
skilled services generally per-
formed by home health aides,
including companionship,
daily errands, light housekeep-
ing and meal preparation?

his year more than 5.4
million homes were
sold by the end of
August, according to the
National Association of
Realtors. Are you one of these
millions of new homeowners? If
so, you’ve most likely felt the
urge to settle in immediately.
However, before making any
major renovations, it’s a good
idea to live in a new home a
while to see how the space is
meeting your needs. Here are a
few swift swaps that will have a
big impact in making that new
house feel like home sweet
home.
PERSONALIZE WITH
PAINT
It may be the most obvi-
ous update but painting is an
easy solution to change the
look of a room in an instant.
Whether you paint an entire
room,-create a bold accent wall
or incorporate glossy white
trim, paint is an affordable fix
for any home.
You can easily and quickly
bring your design ideas to life
with Shape Tape from
FrogTape. Available in three
on-trend patterns: Wave,
Chevron and Scallop, Shape
Tape makes it simple to achieve
unique, repetitive decorative
painting styles. Each roll of
tape features a pre-cut repeat-
ing pattern, so all you need to
do is simply unroll, apply and
get painting to create your
desired look. From delicate,
narrow waves throughout a
bathroom or nursery, to bold,
wide chevron patterns in the
living area or bedroom, this
tape can be used in any room of
the house.

FABULOUS FRAMES
When moving into a new
space, the things you love
should take center stage. Once
your home reflects who you are,
the rest will slowly fall into
place. Photo frames are the
ideal choice to add a decorative
and personalized touch to any
room. Bring this common
decor pick into the modern age
by creating a personal gallery
and displaying frames of vary-
ing shapes and sizes. To do this,
plan the layout of the frames
before hanging, either with
paper on the wall or by arrang-
ing them on the floor. Or, you
can simply purchase pre-
arranged frame galleries at
home decor retailers.
FAUCET FOCUS
Kitchen and bath make-
overs tend to have the biggest
impact on a home and its resale
value. However, new home-
owners who are strapped for
cash may not have a large
budget for a full-scale bathroom
remodel. Fortunately, there are
several basic swaps that can
quickly change the look and
feel of a bath.
The easiest way to remod-
el your bathroom is to replace
its hardest-working fixture - the
faucet. This is a project new
homeowners can tackle them-
selves at a reasonable price.
Moen offers a wide variety of
faucet options like the new sin-
gle-handle Boardwalk bath-
room faucet, to add a fresh, ele-
gant look to the sink. Available
at Lowe’s, Boardwalk fits
almost any decor and comes in
Moen’s Spot Resist Brushed
Nickel finish, which resists fin-
gerprints and water spots, so
the faucet will stay looking
clean as you show it off to fam-
ily and friends. For a polished
look, swap out old hardware
with affordable, coordinated
accessories including robe
hooks, towel rings and towel
bars.

with creamy cheddar cheese
for a dish that immediately
says ‘holiday’,” said Mary Beth
Harrington of the McCormick
Kitchens. “You can use sage in
your everyday favorites
because it’s such a versatile
spice.”
Make every moment of
the season a little more savory
by:
Stirring sage into soft-
ened butter for green beans,
broccoli and rolls.
Sprinkling sage on sweet
potatoes, butternut squash or
other roasted harvest vegeta-
bles.
Mixing sage into meat-
loaf for a festive family meal.

C
ollin Marzella, a life-
ranked Boy Scout with
Troop 108 in Wayne,
successfully completed his
Eagle Scout project at the Dey
Mansion in Wayne.
“I always loved history,
especially the Revolutionary
War era,” said Marzella. “I
knew I wanted to do something
at one of the historical sites in
Wayne.”
The old cemetery up the
road from the Dey Mansion,
near the Preakness Country
Club, dates back to before the
revolution. After seeing the
disrepair of the headstones and
overgrown grounds, Marzella
knew he wanted to fix it up.
The project was ambi-
tious. Headstones and monu-
ments needed to be cleaned
and repaired. Mulch borders
needed to be added for protec-
tion from lawn mowers. And
an aluminum fence needed to
be installed around the perime-
ter of the cemetery.
In order to advance to the
rank of Eagle, life scouts must
plan, develop and give leader-
ship to others in a magnitudi-
nous service project to the
community. Restoring the
cemetery would qualify as such
a project. Marzella reached out
to Challenger Fence and
Sgobba Monuments, both
located in Paterson, who
agreed to donate their products
and services.
“Cleaning the historical
headstones was a concern
because they are so old and
fragile,” said Marzella. “But we
were lucky to get in touch with
Sgobba Monuments, who is
one of the few companies in
the country that specializes in
the restoration of historical
monuments.”
Anthony Sgobba and an
employee met Marzella and his
team at the cemetery and
taught them how to clean
headstones. They even
straightened Ann Dey’s head-
stone, which had tilted over
the years. Sgobba monitored
the scouts to make sure nothing
would be damaged.
“The result was unbeliev-
able! Headstones that were
charcoal in color are now really
white! And you can read many
of the epitaphs now because all
of the grime has been cleaned
away,” said Marzella.
Alex Miloseski from
Challenger Fence donated 600
feet of black aluminum fencing.
Miloseski, whose daughter is a
girl scout, said when the time
comes for her to complete her
gold project, he hopes someone
will do the same thing for her.
The fence took the scouts
two full days to install. It pro-
vides a sleek, visual border to
separate the historical cemetery
from the golf course grounds.
Overall, Marzella’s project
took over 230 hours to com-
plete.
“This project is something
I am so proud of,” he said. “I
owe a big thanks to my spon-
sors, Challenger Fence and
Sgobba Monuments, as well as
all the scouts from Troop 108
and family members who
worked hard to help me
achieve my goal.”
Last year, scout service
projects were conducted by
more than 2.7 million youth
members and more than one
million volunteers, who collec-
tively logged 13,449,017 serv-
ice hours.

whether we need assistance in
the home or the help of a
nursing home, we will not be
financially devastated. In fact,
our joint income will increase
because of the need and a sep-
arate insurance policy will pay
for our care. Not only will our
portfolio be protected, our
annual income increased and
the expense of care provided
by insurance, our advisor also
included a bequest magnifier.
Not only will our children
receive 100 percent of the
balance of our portfolio, they
will also receive it net of taxes
as the advisor provided for a
plan to take care of that obli-
gation too! We were also able
to enhance the bequest to our
children and favorite charities
with a gifting program set up
through the Trinity Method
of Investing! Our advisor
introduced us to a wonderful
and competent elder law
attorney to create the five
legal documents that all pre-
and post-retirees need: will,
power of attorney, health
proxy, living will and an
Irrevocable Life Insurance
Trust (ILIT). Now our only
avocation is to enjoy our
never-ending income, doing
the things that we enjoy.
Sometimes we take the kids
and their children with us and
sometimes only the two of us
go to a new corner of the
world to explore. It really is
like heaven enjoying a stress-
free retirement. Why don’t
you join us and learn how to
have the same benefits we
have for your portfolio? We’ll
even tell you who we use so
you can ask for yourself how
the Trinity Method of
Investing can work for you
too! Here’s a hint: he is the
creator of the Trinity Method
of Investing, he wrote this
article and his contact infor-
mation appears below. Why
not call him for a free no-obli-
gation appointment? We did!

ometimes choosing to
make a charitable dona-
tion can be difficult,
particularly when you are
unsure to which charity to
donate. Different factors influ-
ence such a decision. There
are several ways to research
charities, not the least of
which is word-of-mouth rec-
ommendations or confirma-
tion of a reputable business
through the Better Business
Bureau. There also are organi-
zations that publish informa-
tion on charities and rate
them on various factors. Those
like Charity Navigator, Best
RatedCharities.com and Give
Well.org help consumers make
informed decisions. GiveSpot
.com also offers their ratings of
charities based on the percent-
age of funds that go to program
expenses and the transparency
of the organizagtions in pro-
viding information about their
charities. Here are some of
GiveSpot.com’s top picks for

bills pile up. Caulking around
windows and spaces between
the floor and baseboards in
attics and sun rooms will help
prevent drafts. Consider pur-
chasing a draft stopper for
the bottoms of doors so wind
or heat doesn’t slip through.
Additionally, service your
furnace annually, so it pro-
duces more heat while using
less energy.
LET THERE BE LIGHT
Lighting is a great way to
add warmth to a sparse space. If
you’re looking to create an inti-
mate atmosphere, place several
table lamps throughout the
room. -You can also amp up
energy savings by switching to
LED bulbs - these bulbs don’t
cause heat buildup and last up
to 10 times as long as compact
fluorescents and 20 times
longer than incandescent
bulbs.
It’s very easy for decorat-
ing to become overwhelming
for new homeowners. By
starting with these few swift
home decor swaps, your new
home will be a comfortable
and welcoming environment
in no time.
